Whispering Wood Wellness and Spa Retreat at De Vere Horsley Estate

That might mean yoga, stretching, or breath‑led movement in the dedicated studio. For many, the perfect transition is simply taking a slow, reflective walk around the estate’s beautiful ornamental lake after a sauna session. 

With 70 acres of private woodland all around you, outdoor movement becomes a natural part of the experience. Follow the estate’s outdoor garden fitness trail, a scenic pathway that winds directly through the grounds in the shadow of the historic towers’ spectacular flint arches.

Can’t live without your lunges? Guests of Whispering Wood can also use the De Vere Horsley Estate gym – ideal if you prefer a more structured workout. Expect a bright, modern space with cardio kit, free weights and resistance machines for serious strength sessions. 

On a Whispering Wood spa day, nourishment is treated as an essential part of the experience, rather than an afterthought. You won’t be rushed through your salad here, because mealtimes are designed to be grounding moments in their own right!

Meals are served in the Brasserie located within the modern setting of Horsley Place, where guests enjoy a generous buffet of fresh, locally sourced dishes. Served at the beginning or end of your experience, it offers comforting hot plates, vibrant salads and indulgent desserts in a relaxed, elegant setting. 

Yes there is, and it’s a real contrast to the woodland spa facilities. You’ll find the 15m indoor swimming pool at Horsley Place, the modern wing of the estate. Generous in size for a hotel pool, it makes a wonderfully warm choice even on rainy Surrey days. 

You’ll find Whispering Wood Wellness and Spa Retreat tucked within 70 acres of parkland at the De Vere Horsley Estate. The retreat is designed to be an immersive, nature-integrated wellness experience. Rather than being housed inside a traditional hotel corridor, it uses the stunning surroundings of the estate to offer a peaceful, outdoor sanctuary. 

But it’s not all about the great outdoors! Spa days here include use of the hotel’s pool, and many will see you heading to The Brasserie for your spa lunch. And luckily, you won’t have to walk too far in your robe and slippers. Horsley Place (the contemporary wing of the hotel) is just a stroll across the lawns! 

Whispering Wood Wellness and Spa Retreat is actually the next evolution of Natural Light Wellness Spa, an award-winning sanctuary founded by an all-female team inside the Holiday Inn Guildford.

While providing their unique treatments and day packages at their Guildford base, the team began hosting one-off day retreats on the historic grounds of the De Vere Horsley Estate. These immersive experiences featured conscious digital detoxes, woodland tree-bathing and sound healing – and proved how transformative it was when guests were given the time and space to genuinely unplug.

The overwhelming success of these pop-up events became the catalyst for something permanent. Whispering Wood takes Natural Light’s established therapeutic foundations and everything learned from those original estate retreats, giving them a permanent home in the beautiful surroundings of the De Vere Horsley Estate.

Spa days are great, but overnight stays give you the full Whispering Wood experience. They give you the time to slow down and settle in – and you can even continue the experience the following morning.

The estate’s accommodation is split between the contemporary Horsley Place wing, (which offers modern, sleek bedrooms alongside the main hotel reception and restaurant) and the historic, fairytale castle-style Horsley Towers, a spectacular 19th-century mansion featuring ornate, traditional suites, grand architecture and its signature flint arches.

While you have to be 16 or over for a spa day at Whispering Wood, children aged 10 and over can join you on teen spa days. And the De Vere Horsley Estate itself is very family-friendly, with seven family bedrooms, dedicated children’s menus in The Brasserie, a swimming pool to splash in and plenty of parkland for kids to explore. 

Yes, the Whispering Wood Wellness and Spa Retreat is accessible, offering step-free access throughout its woodland sanctuary. Accessible rooms are situated on the ground floor of Horsley Place - however Horsley Towers does not have accessible rooms or lift access, and the hotel’s indoor swimming pool is not currently accessible for wheelchair users.

While dogs can’t join you in the woodland spa, they’re welcome to check into the hotel for the night. De Vere Horsley Estate welcomes your furry friends for £30 per dog, per night with a maximum of two allowed to join you. Pooches will be treated to the paw-fect stay with their own bowl, bed and delicious treats.

No, there’s no golf course on-site. But there is some good news for those who love to pamper and putt. Surrey is a golfer’s paradise, with more golf courses in the Top 100 than any other county! The estate sits right next door to The Drift Golf Club, an 18-hole woodland course. But if you just want to stay on-site and do something fun, check out the 7-hole frisbee golf course!
