About

Dream of being whisked away to a luxuriously chilled-out bubble, where the rest of the world ceases to exist? Put those fluffy slippers on and step right this way. The Abbey Hotel & Spa is an elegant four-star hotel nestled on a 175-acre estate near Redditch in Worcestershire, the quiet Midlands county famous for its spa towns of Droitwich and Malvern (along with a certain anchovy-based sauce).

Although the estate once belonged to the now-ruined local abbey, the hotel itself is lavish and modern, with luxe facilities purpose-built for relaxing retreats. Amid these restorative grounds you can play a round on the 18-hole golf course, let off some steam at the well-equipped gym or just soak in the blissful spa facilities - there’s a 15m pool with a bubbling Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna to enjoy.

With 99 contemporary and cosy bedrooms, the atmosphere here is one of total relaxation and tranquillity. In fact your only worry is what fabulous experience to enjoy next - afternoon tea at Lounge 98, a tipple at the Terrace Bar or a delectable dinner at the Brasserie?

A stone’s throw from the Midlands motorway network, The Abbey Hotel & Spa’s heart-of-England location makes it an ideal meeting point for glamorous gatherings with far-flung friends. You could even combine your getaway with some retail therapy at Birmingham city centre, a sightseeing trip to Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon or a fact-finding mission to Cadbury World, a mere nine miles away.

But our guess is you won’t want to stray too far from your home from home right here in the Worcestershire countryside. Spend time being pampered with Elemis and Natural Spa Factory rituals in the five treatment rooms. Enjoy a couples’ ritual to reconnect in style. Then emerge feeling utterly rejuvenated, ready to savour the rest of your blissful escape.

The Spa & Wellness at The Abbey Hotel & Spa

Worcestershire is famous for its historic spa towns, with Victorians travelling from miles around to bask in the natural mineral waters of Droitwich and Malvern. Today The Abbey Hotel carries on the county’s tradition in its own calming spa, a haven dedicated to pampering and rejuvenation.

Step inside The Peak Spa & Health Club and inhale the calming aroma of essential oils. Put on the plush robe that awaits you, and begin your blissful journey at the 15m indoor pool. Pull up a lounger to relax for a while, take a dip in the tranquil warm water, or bubble away in the pool-side hot tub. A modern steam room and sauna let you sweat out the toxins as you unknot tense shoulders.

Take time for a treatment, but will you choose an Elemis facial or sweet-scented body scrub? Whatever you decide, an OPI mani/pedi will ensure you float out looking every bit as good as you feel.

The Gym & Fitness at The Abbey Hotel & Spa

Don’t forget your leggings! Nailing your fitness goals is easy when you’re working out at The Abbey Hotel & Spa. Its Peak Spa & Health Club features a state-of-the-art gym packed with the latest gadgets and gizmos to keep you entertained while you work up a sweat.

Along with weights and resistance machines, it's crammed with Matrix equipment that features virtual active software to transport you to some of the world's most exotic locations while you pedal or run.

But with 175 acres of glorious grounds to make the most of, why exercise indoors when there’s fun to be had (and calories to be burned) in the fresh air? Hike, jog or power walk in the natural beauty, or play a relaxing game of golf on the 18-hole course.

Like to lace up your walking boots and get exploring? Head to the hills! The hotel makes a great base for exploring the Malverns, an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty perfect for exhilarating climbs, long horse rides and hikes along its footpaths and bridleways.

Restaurants & Food at The Abbey Hotel & Spa

You’ve nurtured your body with heat and water. You’ve nourished it with a luxurious treatment. Now it’s time to nibble on something delectable, and The Abbey Hotel & Spa has just the thing. Some truly indulgent options await and they all boast glorious views over the grounds and golf course. You just have to pick the location that suits your post-spa mood…

The Brasserie

Fancy something fancy? The Brasserie is the hotel’s elegant dining room. Head here for seasonal dining using local produce to create dishes inspired by classic British and modern European flavours. Enjoy steaks or sea bass, or sample the famous three-course Sunday roast.

The Terrace Bar

For something a little lighter (or perhaps a post-spa cocktail or two) try the cool, contemporary Terrace Bar. With stylish interiors and a laid back vibe, you won’t miss any sporting action thanks to screens showing all the latest Sky and BT Sports matches. For lunch, try its burgers, baps and sandwiches, or perhaps even a plate of tapas or two to share. Then just sip, scoff and socialise with views of the greens adding to the ambience

Lounge 98

Love to have an aperitif before dinner? Lounge 98 is the ideal place. You can pull up a comfy chair and settle in for the night in the refined lounge-like surroundings, but it’s also the place to head for your morning coffee, a light, informal lunch or a decadent afternoon tea.

I visited with my daughter and we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience spa day. We were a bit sceptical about visiting due to some of the negative reviews but I can honestly say our experience was fabulous. We were greeted by lovely Reception staff who explained where everything was located. The facilities were spotless and well maintained. We made use of the sauna, pool and steam room. We then went for our lovely afternoon tea which we ate on the terrace overlooking the beautiful golf course. We didn't book a treatment as they were very expensive even with the 20% discount. However on the way home we treated ourselves to some of the Elemis products with our free voucher. We can't wait to return again in the future.

Fantastic spa day with my daughter, we had two amazing treatments with the lovely and very professional Isabelle and Naomi. All the facilities were available to us from the gym, swimming pool, sauna, spa and Jacuzzi. Nothing was too much trouble and we left feeling relaxed and invigorated. Afternoon tea was lovely too. Would highly recommend the Serenity Spa Day package which is available Monday - Friday. Just remember to bring your flip flops as we forgot our and although we were able to purchase the slippers to wear flip flops would have been better!

Nice spa but small pool and there weren't enough chairs (maybe 4 comfy loungers, 4 plastic loungers and 8 chairs. There were also children present so it wasn't very relaxing! The afternoon tea was delicious though! The staff there were really sweet and very attentive with my dietary requirements.

Brilliant day. We arrived to a lovely welcome. We booked 20min treatment and afternoon tea. We arrived 12:30 and treatments scattered for the 7 of us. We went with my mum who is poorly and they where very kind. Facilities where good. Nice place to sit around. There was a hen do do was busy. The chlorine in Jacuzzi was quite strong also small with the amount if people there. Steam room and sauna where nice. The bar area upstairs is lovely where you'll have afternoon tea. Great service young girl behind the counter. We actually had our tea in the main dining area as we couldn't get upstairs to the bar. The food was lovely. It was presented really well and the chap looking after us was exceptional. My mum loved it all thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does The Abbey Hotel & Spa serve afternoon tea?

It sure does, and many of the spa packages on offer at The Abbey Hotel & Spa include the indulgent tradition. Served everyday between 12pm and 4pm, you can round off your hard day’s pampering with a selection of sweet and savoury titbits washed down with a glass of something blonde and bubbly.

Your treat will take place in either the sumptuous surroundings of Lounge 98, the Terrace or al fresco on the outdoor patio. Expect delicate finger sandwiches, dinky cakes and freshly baked scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam.

Does The Abbey Hotel & Spa have a swimming pool?

It does, and it’s gorgeous. Atmospherically lit by night and with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing views onto lush greenery by day, you’ll feel relaxed before you even get in. With 15m to float in, the indoor pool is blissfully warm and has a bubbling poolside Jacuzzi to soak in after your lengths.

Does The Abbey Hotel & Spa have accommodation?

There are 99 gorgeous bedrooms at The Abbey Hotel, so an overnight stay is always a tempting possibility. From comfortable and contemporary Classics to the Rooftop Penthouses with balconies and far-reaching views over the golf course, all rooms feature en-suite bathrooms, beds with cotton duvets, free WiFi access, flat screen TVs, luxury toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities.

What are the check-in and check-out times at The Abbey Hotel & Spa?

Here on an overnight stay? You can check in from 3pm, while checkout time is 11am on your day of departure. For spa days and half days, arrival times depend on the package you have booked, so do check your booking confirmation.

Is The Abbey Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is. You’ll find dedicated parking spaces, wheelchair access, reduced mobility rooms and accessible changing facilities for disabled guests.

Where is The Abbey Hotel & Spa located?

You’ll find it just outside the Worcestershire town of Redditch, which is about 15 miles south of Birmingham. You may not be that familiar with Redditch, but in Victorian times the town was producing 90% of all the needles in the world! Today you can learn all about it (and find out about some of the harsh conditions experienced by the workers) at the Forge Mill Needle Museum.

The hotel is also in a great location for those who wanted to combine their spa break with a bit of the retail therapy Birmingham is famous for. If you’re a history buff, set aside some time for Warwick Castle and perhaps a tour of Stratford-upon-Avon. Chocoholic? You’ll love the fact that Cadbury World is just nine miles away.

Is The Abbey Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

The Abbey Hotel welcomes families, and has both Family Rooms (with a king size bed, single bed and space for a travel cot) and interconnecting rooms. You’ll find children’s menus crammed with family favourites at the Brasserie, while the hotel makes the ideal base for fun adventures at nearby West Midlands Safari Park or Drayton Manor.

While kids have to be 16 and over to have a treatment in the spa, little ones can join you in the leisure club pool between 10am and 12pm in the morning, and 4pm and 7pm each afternoon (6.30pm on Thursdays).

Is The Abbey Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

Although your dog can’t join you at the spa, the Abbey Hotel is fabulously dog friendly and your pampered pooch can stay for £15 per dog, per night.

Does The Abbey Hotel & Spa have a golf course?

It does, so you can pamper and putt on the same relaxing break! Combine your spa stay with a spot of golf because The Abbey Hotel is home to one of Worcestershire's best courses - a championship standard par 72 parkland course, designed by Donald Steel. You’ll also find a putting green, pro shop and custom fit centre with TrackMan technology and a two-storey floodlit driving range to help you practise your swing.
