Well, you should! That’s the idea behind Self Love Month, anyway. And you can stop sniggering at the back, that’s not what we’re talking about at all.
Self Love Month was dreamed up by self-empowerment guru Daylie Deanna Schwartz, who decided that January was the perfect time for everyone to embrace a little bit of self-care and do something kind for themselves.
I can see her point – it’s this time of the year that the TV schedules are full of weight loss shows, and diet adverts and magazines are saturated with articles telling us we need to lose weight, stop smoking, get fit, sort our debts out and generally that we aren’t good enough as we are. I reckon we should all counteract the tide of negativity with a little bit of loveliness, and enjoy a spa day or something deliciously self-indulgent that’s just for you.
I’m going to be taking Daylie’s advice and making the most of a spa stay in January, I’m off to Lifehouse again for a quick recharge. You could do the same; or perhaps treat yourself to a gorgeous body lotion, enjoy a relaxing yoga class just for the hell of it, download or buy a trashy novel to lose yourself in. The idea is that you do something that makes you feel good, and that’s just for you.
What’s more, I don’t think we should restrict the self-love to one month. Why not schedule in something nice for yourself every month? Plan ahead now and write a list of 12 things you really fancy doing, they don’t have to be expensive, and make sure you do them. It’s not selfish; if you don’t look after yourself, there’s not going to be enough of you left to make sure everyone else is OK! Check out the Self Love Challenge on Facebook and let me know how you get on…You can also get a free download of the ‘How do I love me?’ book here: How do I love me?
New Year’s Resolutions? Down with them. I think 2013 should be the year of indulgence…
