About

Why settle for watching Bridgerton on screen when you can step straight into it? Hanbury Manor serves up sweeping staircases, secret gardens and oak‑panelled rooms dripping in old‑world charm. The impressive Jacobean manor and former convent sits within 200 acres of Hertfordshire countryside. And while it’s the ideal setting for a cheeky afternoon tea by a crackling fire or a leisurely round of golf, it’s at the serene subterranean spa where the right‑royal pampering truly begins.

Indulge in Aromatherapy Associates or Elemis rituals in seven zen-like treatment rooms, or snuggle up in your robe in the idyllic outdoor spa garden lounge. A 17m column-lined indoor pool adds a touch of Roman splendour to your morning dip, while the spa pool, sauna and male and female steam rooms dial up the decadence. Prefer active relaxation? Hit the state-of-the-art health club, play a game on the giant outdoor chess set, or go for a brisk walk in the beautiful walled garden.

Outdoor adventures continue on the championship golf course. But if you’re more into history than handicaps, you’ll be in your element. The estate’s stunning 1930s Gothic‑style brick chapel, Poles Hall, boasts spectacular vaulted timber ceilings and a minstrel’s gallery, while the fragrant walled gardens are a favourite among guests. And when evening falls, the grand Zodiac Restaurant doesn’t just serve delicious dinners. Its gold‑gilded Victorian ceiling painted with celestial motifs may well distract you from your seasonal British feast!

Perfectly positioned just 25 miles north of London, the estate makes for an effortless country escape. Harry Potter fans are perfectly placed for a wizard day out, with the iconic Warner Bros. Studio Tour just a short drive away. Culture lovers can flock to nearby Hatfield House – another spectacular Jacobean palace that actually starred in Bridgerton itself. Wander the indie boutiques of Hertford, admire the architecture in the ancient cathedral city of St Albans, or stride out along scenic walking trails weaving through the Lee Valley.

But with so much grandeur waiting back at Hanbury Manor, we wouldn’t blame you for staying put. Enjoy a nightcap at Vardons or by the fire in the wood-pannelled library before retiring to one of the estate’s 161 guest rooms – each a different size and shape, thanks to the manor’s history as a family home. Hanbury Manor makes it so easy to escape the modern world and live out your own period drama – no bonnets required!

The Spa & Wellness at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club

Any visit to Hanbury Manor will make you feel like lord and lady of the manor. But step inside the hotel’s state-of-the-art spa and leisure club and you’ll be treated like royalty.

This serene wellness hideaway has a 17m Roman-style indoor pool for leisurely laps. Bubble in the poolside jacuzzi, and when you fancy basking in the heat you can choose between the poolside sauna or head into the privacy of the separate male and female changing areas to find the single-sex steam rooms.

Time for your treatment? You’ll head to one of seven tranquil treatment rooms. Here, expert therapists use Aromatherapy Associates or Elemis products across a mouth-watering menu of massages, facials and body rituals. Finish with a Mii manicure or pedicure in the dedicated nail area, then head to the tranquil spa garden for more relaxing. Just be careful not to smudge!

The Gym & Fitness at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club

Who says an indulgent spa day has to mess with your fitness routine? Keep on track with Hanbury Manor’s state-of-the-art Technogym fitness centre and complimentary wellness classes.

Feel the burn on treadmills, cross-trainers or stationery bikes. Tone up with resistance machines and free weights, then crank up the intensity in the group cycling studio. You can join in with any of the 30-plus weekly wellness classes ranging from aerobic sessions to body-toning rituals, then wrap up your workout with a swim in the 17m swimming pool.

Take a swing on the acclaimed championship golf course or go for a powerwalk along the picturesque trails winding throughout the historic parklands. Or for adventures further afield, why not head out into Lee Valley, where you can hire mountain bikes to tackle miles of riverside paths?

Restaurants & Food at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club

Zodiac restaurant is the estate’s flagship dining room, where you can tuck into contemporary British cuisine (gin-cured trout, anyone?) under a spectacular, gold-gilded Victorian ceiling painted with celestial motifs.

For elegant afternoon teas, the stunning Oak Hall is the place to be. There’s nothing nicer than tucking into your scones in this wood-panelled sanctuary filled with grand features, big comfy chairs and cosy roaring log fires.

Finally, there’s Vardons, which has a totally different vibe. This buzzy sports bar was named after the legendary golfer Harry Vardon who originally laid out the estate’s fairways and features laid-back bistro setting with views across the golf course.

Lovely afternoon

We were two friends who booked a spa afternoon with afternoon tea as a treat. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the pool loungers and included hot drinks, as well as the spa pool and sauna. We both had a facial and the two colleagues who did these were lovely and very professional. The spa did feel quite limited, when compared with some others we have tried, and we did only spend an hour in the actual spa itself due to this. It was a shame that we had to get dry and dressed to go for afternoon tea as this was in the formal restaurant. It would have been great if the tea was closer so we could remain in our swimwear and robes.

We had a lovey day. It was part of my daughters many hen dos 😂. We had a relaxing swim and time sunbathing and visiting the sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room. We had a gorgeous massage and finished with a beautiful afternoon tea. One of my daughters has an intolerance which was catered for and a glass of Prosecco was offered for my daughter who is getting married. The staff were welcoming and helpful the whole place was clean and friendly. It really was the best experience. Thank you we will definitely be visiting again.

Such a lovely afternoon with my granddaughter! Right from the welcome we received through to afternoon tea. Emmie, who did my massage was very good and gave me the best massage I’ve ever had at Hanbury. The pool was calm and quiet. The tea/coffee is a nice touch. EVERY staff member was pleasant and helpful. We will be back again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club serve afternoon tea?

Ooh, yes it does – and many of the spa packages on offer include it as part of your day. Put your pinkie up every day between 2pm and 4.30pm inside the historic Oak Hall, where you’ll feel like lord and lady of the manor, thanks to roaring fireplaces, gorgeous wood panels and breath-taking views over the estate.

It’s safe to say they do things properly, with the finest china and loose leaf tea sieved through teeny tiny strainers. Expect three tiers piled high with finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and preserves and a selection of delicate cakes and pastries. If you’re feeling fancy you can upgrade to a glass of Champagne or sparkling rosé to add the ultimate sparkle to your spa day.

Does Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club have a swimming pool?

Hanbury Manor does indeed have a swimming pool and it’s a total show-stopper. You’ll feel like you’re in an ancient Roman bathhouse thanks to the Neo-Classical stately columns lining the water’s edge! At 17m in length it’s a great place for an atmospheric swim, and there’s also a poolside whirlpool and sauna. Looking for the steam rooms? You’ll find separate options in the male and female changing rooms.

Is Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club accessible?

Yes it is, with ramps up to the main entrance, wide interior corridors and accessible rooms featuring roll-in showers.

Where is Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club located?

Hanbury Manor is set between the Hertfordshire villages of Thundridge and Wadesmill, while the riverside market towns of Ware and Hertford are just a few minutes down the road. Because it sits in acres of gorgeous grounds and gardens, it feels miles away from anywhere. In fact, it’s hard to believe that you’re just 25 miles north of Central London!

Is Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club family-friendly?

While the minimum age for spa packages at Hanbury Manor is 18, families are welcome to stay at the hotel – and there’s loads of fun on offer for little ones. Your mini explorers can take part in family scavenger hunts or splash in the pool from 7am to 11am and 2pm and 7pm daily.

Animal lovers are perfectly placed for a wild day out at Hertfordshire Zoo (formerly Paradise Wildlife Park), located just a short drive away. But for Harry Potter fanatics, the iconic Warner Bros. Studio Tour London makes for a spellbinding day out.

Is there a golf club at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club?

If you don’t mind smudging your manicure by donning a golf glove, the estate’s championship golf course is just the place to spa and par. This 18-hole masterpiece was originally plotted by golf legend Harry Vardon before being reimagined by Jack Nicklaus II into the thrilling par-72 parkland challenge it is today.

Winding across 200 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, the course treats players to pristine USGA-specification greens, historic mature trees, views of the Jacobean-style manor and strategically placed water hazards. There’s also a golf simulator, golf shop and practice facilities.

Is Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club pet-friendly?

Sorry, this one’s strictly for humans. Only service dogs get a VIP (very important pooch) pass at Hanbury Manor. But while the hotel isn’t dog‑friendly, it’s definitely people‑friendly – perfect for couples, groups of friends or anyone looking to unwind in style!
