About

Stroll through landscaped gardens. Unwind in a spa sanctuary. Savour the taste of Lancashire’s freshest produce. Barton Manor Hotel & Spa is a place that invites you to unwind. Set on the outskirts of Preston in the picturesque village of Barton, this striking red‑brick manor dates back to 1900. But thanks to a multi‑million‑pound glow-up, it now sits confidently in that sweet spot between relaxed retreat and contemporary haven, thanks to stylish interiors, genuinely good food and those thoughtful little touches that help you finally exhale.

Once a grand private residence, the hotel now shows off some serious architectural swagger. Sleek, contemporary cubes house 46 brand‑new bedrooms, all connected by the Palazzo – a gorgeous glass‑walled walkway that links the old manor to its shiny new wing. Grab a Starbucks coffee here in the morning or ease into the evening with a cocktail before wandering over to The Walled Garden, where Lancashire cheese specialities and smoky charcoal‑grilled meats celebrate the best of the county’s larder.

The Leisure Club & Spa offers the stress-busting cheat code we all deserve. Beyond the heated swimming pool, sauna and steam room, the therapists’ expertise is legendary, so booking a signature ritual is essential. For those who prefer a high-energy reset, the gym is packed with state-of-the-art cardio kit, free weights and resistance machines, to keep your fitness goals on track while you're away.

When you’re ready to explore, you’re perfectly placed for the buzz of Preston or the calm of the countryside. Wander into the Forest of Bowland for rugged hiking trails and some of the clearest dark‑sky stargazing in the UK, or head into Preston to shop the high‑street giants of the Fishergate Centre. If you fancy something livelier, Blackpool’s bright lights are just 20 minutes away, where you can swap peace and quiet for the adrenaline of the Pleasure Beach or a sunset walk along the North Pier.

After a day of exploring, the hotel’s 103 bedrooms provide the ultimate sanctuary. Whether you’ve opted for the heritage charm of the original manor or one of the balcony‑fronted rooms in the new wing, you'll find every modern comfort waiting. But before you retreat for the night, don't miss Barton Manor’s signature afternoon tea served on the terrace. It’s a local institution, featuring tiers of innovative savouries and warm sultana scones that turn a simple spa day into a proper celebration.

The Spa & Wellness at Barton Manor Hotel and Spa

Tucked inside the four‑star Barton Manor Hotel, the Leisure Club & Spa is all about indulgence. Whether you’re popping in for a glam girls’ day or craving a solo reset, it ticks every box – treatments, tranquillity and plenty of chill time stretched out on a heated lounger.

Your journey to relaxation begins in the 14m heated indoor pool, a serene spot for a peaceful swim. Then retreat to the sauna or the eucalyptus‑infused steam room, where the aromatic heat soothes tired muscles and clears the mind long before you even reach the treatment rooms.

Here, you can indulge in a curated menu of world‑class professional treatments, from hot-stone massages that melt away tension to high‑performance botanical facials that leave your skin glowing. Every ritual is bespoke and delivered by expert therapists who treat relaxation as a fine art – exactly as it should be.

The Gym & Fitness at Barton Manor Hotel and Spa

Ready to invest in your body as well as your soul? The Leisure Club at Barton Manor is more than just a gym – it’s a complete health and wellbeing experience with a dedicated team on hand to support you.

Whether you’re pushing your limits in the fully equipped gym or enjoying a relaxing swim in the heated pool, the club provides the perfect setting. But the fitness opportunities don’t stop at the hotel gates.

Head 20 minutes north into the Forest of Bowland for rugged, off‑road hiking and trail running that will really test your endurance. A 15‑minute drive takes you to Beacon Fell Country Park, where forest trails and a steady climb to the summit reward you with sweeping views across the Fylde coast. Prefer something gentler? The Lancaster Canal towpath is close by – ideal for a peaceful morning jog alongside the narrowboats.

Restaurants & Food at Barton Manor Hotel and Spa

After all that pampering, it’s only right to treat your tastebuds too – and Barton Manor has dining spaces that make lingering over good food feel like part of the experience.

The Palazzo

The Palazzo is the hotel’s newest architectural highlight – a striking, glass‑walled space that acts as the social heart of Barton Manor. Flooded with natural light and dressed in sleek, contemporary colours, it’s the perfect spot for a Starbucks coffee, a light lunch or a pre‑dinner cocktail. Seamlessly connecting the historic manor with the modern wing, it shifts effortlessly from a bright daytime lounge to an elegant evening bar, always buzzing with feel-good energy.

The Walled Garden

The hotel’s signature restaurant comes with a back story. Built in the mid‑1990s using original plans from 1901 (discovered by chance), the builders followed the century‑old blueprint exactly, adding a roof to transform it into the award‑winning bistro it is today.

Inside, the focus is firmly on Lancashire’s finest ingredients. Expect heritage meats cooked over a specialised charcoal grill, giving signature steaks and grills a distinctive smoky flavour. Whether you’re dining beneath the original brickwork or enjoying afternoon tea in the conservatory, The Walled Garden delivers a true farm-to-fork experience in a setting that blends rustic charm with refined comfort.

Where is Barton Manor Hotel & Spa located?

You’ll find Barton Manor Hotel & Spa in the village of Barton, just north of Preston. It’s perfectly placed for exploring all the different sides of Lancashire life, because it’s only five miles from the city’s bustling centre, yet it’s right on the doorstep of the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you’re craving the coast, the bright lights of Blackpool are just a 20‑minute breeze away via the M6. Prefer your water a little calmer? Head nine miles south to Brockholes Nature Reserve, where you can wander through ancient woodlands and explore the UK’s first floating visitor village, perched right on the lake.

Who owns Barton Manor Hotel & Spa?

Barton Manor Hotel & Spa has been family‑owned for decades. Edward and Ada Topping first took ownership back in 1951, and the hotel remained in the Topping family until 2019, when it was bought by another well‑known Lancashire family, the Timmermans.

But the story of the manor stretches back even further. Built in 1900 as a six‑bedroom country residence for local mill owner John Healey, it later played its part in history when it was requisitioned by the War Office in 1940 and used as an Officer’s Mess during the war.

Is Barton Manor Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Yes it is. Children are warmly welcomed at the hotel, where you’ll find five spacious family rooms, a kids’ menu for mini diners aged under 10, and plenty of room for little ones to roam in the tranquil grounds.

Kids can splash in the pool before 10am and after 3pm, giving families plenty of time to enjoy the water. And if you’re heading out for adventures, there’s loads nearby to keep them entertained. The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre in Brock is just up the road, offering luxury ten‑pin bowling, a premium cinema and even curling. Or take them to Wild Adventures at Brockholes, a unique nature reserve with a floating visitor village and an ancient woodland climbing forest that’s perfect for older kids.

Is Barton Manor Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is, with ramps and lifts throughout. Two accessible rooms have walk-in showers, grab rails, a higher-level toilet, a lower sink and emergency cords.

Is Barton Manor Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

Small dogs are welcome to stay at the Barton Manor Hotel, but charges apply and you’ll have to let the hotel know in advance that your furry friend is coming with you.

Is there a golf club at Barton Manor Hotel & Spa?

Love to pamper and putt? Sadly there’s no golf club at Barton Manor Hotel itself. But because it’s close to some fabulous courses, you can think of it as the ultimate 19th hole! Nearby Garstang Golf Club is one of the region’s most popular pay-and-play destinations. It is known for its excellent drainage, making it playable year-round. Or try Preston Golf Club and Driving Range. While this is a private members’ club, it warmly welcomes visitors for a casual round.
