Brighton is one of my most favourite places in the whole of the UK. I just love it down there – the boutiques and pretty shops on the Lanes, the little cafes and bars, the seafront and the Pier, all good cheesy doughnut-scented fun. The aroma of fish and chips and doughnuts might soon be joined by the aroma of essential oils as there are plans afoot to build a super-swanky £5m spa resort on Brighton seafront.
The proposals for the spa are being discussed at the moment by the city council’s economic development and culture committee and it’s likely that the go-ahead will be given for the upmarket development, which will be just a few hundred yards away from the town’s iconic East Pier. It will be called ‘The Brighton Bathing Pavilion’ – a very regal name for a spa – and if it goes ahead the Bathing Pavilion will consist of five separate pavilions, with dedicated children’s areas, a luxury spa and health centre, a beach club and restaurant, an outdoor swimming and bathing area and a member’s club.
The spa will be open to the general public – apart from the members’ only club – so you can schedule in a visit if you’re down in Brighton enjoying a weekend break or a seaside holiday. Pop the kids into the children’s club and enjoy a relaxing spa treatment while they enjoy the entertainment. What could be more perfect?
I’ll keep an eye on the developments but I’m thinking this could be one more reason to pay Brighton another visit in the not-too-distant future…
