Anyone for tennis?

Anyone for tennis?

It’s that time of the year again, when we’re all obsessed with strawberries and cream, whether it’s going to rain and whether this will be the year that Andy Murray finally does us all proud and wins the tournament. Yes, it’s Wimbledon fortnight.

UK spas aren't missing a trick when it comes to indulging the great British love for all things Wimbledon in June.

Book into Champneys Tring Spa Resort and you can get yourself a few lessons and come away with an improved technique as well as enjoying a reviving spa treat; the popular mini break gives you tennis coaching, match play and even a session of Cardio Tennis too.

If you just fancy messing around on the tennis courts for fun, many spas have their own tennis courts and open them to visitors on a spa day. Look for spas that are part of a health club like Virgin Active Health & Racquets club (the clue’s in the title there) where you’ll find indoor and outdoor tennis courts – well, it does rain fairly regularly in Wimbledon week!

Other spas with tennis facilities include Celtic Manor in the Usk Valley, Tudor Park in Kent, and the Welcome Hotel and Golf Club which has a fantastic floodlit court for after-hours matches.

If, like me, you are completely useless at tennis and you have to have the rules explained to you every year, maybe watching it with a bowl of strawberries is more your cup of tea? You’re more than catered for with the spas’ summer offerings. The Malvern Spa has a fabulously summery Strawberries and Cream Spa Day on offer at the moment, where you can enjoy a day in the spa with a side order of delicious dessert…Now there’s a Wimbledon commemorating treat that we can all enjoy!
