Spas are always looking for new ways to pamper and relax us, and one new massage trend that’s going to be hot for 2012 is the Lava Bambu massage, which is so hot that it hasn’t even been launched yet! The technique, which originates in Asia and is being launched into UK spas this year by the same spa expert who brought us Lava Shells, is being launched next month and is set to take off in a big way.
The Lava Bambu massage uses heated bamboo sticks to give a really deep rolling massage, without putting too much pressure on the therapists, who can be prone to Repetitive Strain Injury from giving lots of massages. The sticks work in a similar way to Lava Shells, which self-heat due to a chemical reaction when an algae and mineral sachet is activated. The resulting massage is deep and soothing and especially good for men who tend to like a stronger, more intense massage.
I can’t wait to try it myself – I’ve had a ‘Brushes with Heaven’ massage at the Utopia Spa in Alexander House Hotel, which was divine, and hot stones always feel delicious on an aching back and shoulders. Look out for the technique hitting the bigger spas in the UK this year and rolling out across the spa scene as people start to realise just how gorgeous it actually feels…
