This year has certainly been the year for Argan oil. I first heard about it from my hairdresser who told ma all about a very expensive Kerastase conditioner called Elixir Ultime which contains it and I’ll be honest, I was sorely tempted to give it a try, especially as I keep colouring my hair and it’s starting to show the stress of all that chemical intervention (split ends, anyone?)
Most of the beauty houses have since jumped on the bandwagon and there are versions from L’Oreal (Elvive Extraordinary Oil) and a Boots own brand too.
It’s starting to pop up in beauty treatments, body scrubs and facials, with pure Argan oil on sale at Holland and Barrett, gorgeous products like Black Olive and Argan Oil Scrub from the Body Shop and Champneys Skin Conditioning Milk all containing the wonder-ingredient.
Anyone would think it’s only just been discovered, but although Argan Oil is actually very rare and precious, the Berber tribes of Morocco have been using it for thousands of years to make themselves more beautiful. More recently Argan has been discovered in France, where the beauty experts got hold of it, discovered the benefits and started adding it to everything so that European women could look more beautiful too! Fashionistas from the New York Times, Elle and Vogue have waxed lyrical about it and it’s a miracle worker for:
• Psoriasis and eczema
• Stretch Marks
• Dry/frizzy/damaged Hair
I’m going to treat myself to some nourishing Argan oil products before winter, to keep dry ‘centrally-heated’ skin at bay.
Have you tried it yet? What did you think?
