About

History is never far away in Stratford-upon-Avon. But after time spent walking in the footsteps of the Bard, head to a place that has just as much historical wow-factor as Shakespeare’s Birthplace itself. More than a hotel, the Welcombe Hotel is a spa and golf resort that’s an architectural landmark in its own right - and it’s just a gentle 20-minute walk from the centre of the Warwickshire town.

If you’re planning an occasion when only the best will do, the Welcombe Hotel will be the venue of your dreams. Sweep up the winding, tree-lined drive to the fairytale mansion. With all the romantic appearance of a grand Jacobean palace, it’s set in 157 acres of stunning grounds with formal Italianate gardens, a lake and a waterfall. But what makes it even more special is that it’s an exceptionally rare 18th century example of a calendar house, with seven entrances (days of the week), 12 fireplaces (months of the year), 52 chimneys (weeks) and 365 windows (days of the year).

Stop counting for a moment and step inside. Grand on the outside, inside it’s a masterpiece of luxury, from the sweeping staircases and twinkling chandeliers to antique oil paintings and huge marble fireplaces. Luckily, leisure facilities are every bit as abundant as the period features, thanks to an immaculate 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a well-equipped gym.

Enjoy memorable fine dining at The Trevelyan restaurant, or settle in for the night sampling the local gin at The Trevelyan bar. But the star of the show has to be the opulent, Roman-themed spa. You’ll be tempted to spend all your time here, unwinding with a Temple Spa or Elemis ritual or revelling in the warmth of the 15-metre swimming pool, Swedish sauna, steam room and outdoor vitality pool.

If you do decide to leave the comfort of your fluffy robe, adventure awaits. Explore the grounds, or take a longer walk through the Welcombe Hills and Clopton Park Local Nature Reserve to reach Stratford-Upon-Avon on foot. Here you can enjoy a boat trip along the River Avon, see a play at the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre, visit Warwick Castle or head to Stratford Butterfly Farm. Or just simply spend time foraging the antique shops, boutiques and local markets for treasures  to take home.

But when you’re tired of shopping and seeing the sights, the Welcombe hotel will be there to welcome you. With 85 opulent bedrooms, including self-catering apartments and suites with four-poster beds, this magical mansion makes the perfect venue for any occasion - whether it’s a spa weekend with the girls, a golfing trip with old friends or an intimate getaway for just the two of you.

The Spa & Wellness at The Welcombe Hotel, Best Western Premier Collection

The Romans knew a thing or two about spa-going. And after a day spent sightseeing in Stratford-upon-Avon, there’s nothing more relaxing than revelling in the Roman-themed surroundings of The Welcombe Spa. Housed in the hotel’s former stables, this exquisite haven blends the magic of contemporary facilities with all opulence of ancient thermal rituals, for an experience you won’t forget.

Go on a thermal journey Julius Caesar himself would envy. From the warmth of the laconium to the invigorating chill of the ice fountain and polar shower, each element is designed to invigorate your senses.

Wallow in the 15-metre indoor pool, bask in the warmth of the Swedish sauna, then embrace the mist of the steam room. If you’re here with a group there’s an outdoor vitality pool with room enough for all of you. Then retreat to the thermal loungers and curl up with a good book.

Dedicated treatment rooms offer a tapestry of decadent spa therapies. Sink into this sumptuous sanctuary to enjoy Elemis and Temple Spa face and body treatments, alongside manicure, pedicure, and beauty treats to pamper and polish you from head to toe.

Whatever you decide to do, you’ll arrive at this beacon of indulgence feeling frazzled, and leave feeling so much lighter and brighter.

We had the most relaxing and calm day. Facilities were all great and clean. But what we most enjoyed were the treatments. Such a great experience and good value for money.

The spa was warm, friendly and relaxing. We were a party of 3 ladies and can honestly say, we had a wonderful time. The pool was refreshing, the jacuzzi was relaxing & the outside little pool was fantastic - shame it isn't bigger, must be magical at night. The staff were kind, friendly & helpful - fantastic! If I could make one recommendation, it would be perhaps staff could come round the spa and tidy left towels & cups but otherwise I can honestly say, I'd love to go back again - Thank you for a wonderful day Hotel Welcombe, it was a birthday treat will never forget.

Lovely spa. Friendly receptionist who was so helpful can't remember his name. Treatments lovely by Emma. Heated beds weren't working which was a shame and foot spas out of order, but outside spa bath great, sauna/steam good. Clean communal areas. Parking not great struggled to get space probably hotel residents. Afternoon tea tasty and plentiful hot drinks. Would recommend.

Very relaxing spa day spent with my daughters. Very lucky to have the pool and spa facilities practically to ourselves! Lovely cream tea and the best facial I have ever experienced! Only downside was that the foot spa and indoor whirl pool was out of action :(
