About

Spa lover looking for something decadently different? Pack your bags and head to Belfast, pronto. Just 15 minutes from the city, The Old Inn isn’t just one of the most historic hotels in Northern Ireland, dating back to 1614. It doesn’t just let you walk in the footsteps of famous author CS Lewis who came here on his honeymoon. This luxurious lair has had a £2.5 million refurb and it now boasts one of the most splendid spas in the country.

Perched high above Crawfordsburn Country Park, the Treetop Spa has unrivalled forest views. This outdoor haven of tranquility comes complete with toasty hydro pool and thermal facilities so you can go forest bathing whatever the weather. Cosy up by the fire in The Conservatory on a heated marble lounger and gaze out at breathtaking views. Get back to nature in a relaxation cabana. It’s all really rather special.

Just five minutes from the seaside town of Bangor, in the sleepy hamlet of Crawfordsburn, there’s plenty to do nearby. Take a relaxing stroll through the forest trails of Crawfordsburn Country Park, or do a longer seaside walk from Helen’s Bay to Bangor. Head back to Belfast to spend a little time in Northern Ireland’s capital. Learn more about the ill-fated ship at the Titanic Belfast Museum, walk the cobblestone streets of the creative Cathedral Quarter or shop til you drop in the quirky independents.

But when you’ve finished exploring, The Old Inn awaits. With 32 unique rooms, this rambling, rural retreat is bursting with character. You can even stay the night in The Cottage where CS Lewis had his honeymoon - now updated so it has its own private, outdoor hot tub, of course!

Curl up by the open fire at the wood-panelled 1614 bar. Enjoy an elegant dinner in the foliage-filled Restaurant. This is an idyllic venue in which to unwind. So check-in, chill-out and let your journey to bliss begin.

The Spa & Wellness at The Old Inn

Take a break from the everyday in the sumptuous sanctuary that is Treetop Spa. A haven of luxury perched above the trees, it offers leafy views over Crawfordsburn Country Park. This is forest bathing at its most luxurious.

Your journey to bliss starts at the stunning outdoor hydro pool, where the temperatures are just as blissful as the views. Lie back and let the jets target any stress areas. Move over to the bubbling hot tub for a soak while you listen to the woodland birds.

Awaken your senses at the experience shower, then hit the sauna and steam room, both housed in cute cabins with glass fronts to bring the outdoors in. Relax on a heated waterbed in the cabana, or head to the Conservatory to lie on heated marble loungers next to a wood-fire stove.

The Gym & Fitness at The Old Inn

There’s no gym at Treetop Spa at The Old Inn. But if you love to explore the great outdoors, you’re in for a treat. The hotel has forest trails, riverside strolls and seafront hikes on its doorstep. They make a great way to work up an appetite for delicious dining and cosy fireside conversations over your favourite tipple.

Lace up your walking boots for a ramble up nearby Cave Hill, for spectacular panoramic views of Belfast. Or head to the hiking trails of Mourne Mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty with the highest peaks in Ulster. Prefer to keep things coastal? It’s a five-minute drive to Helen's Bay where you can take a coastal walk all the way to Bangor in about an hour.

Bring your trainers for a run around Crawfordsburn Country Park, while you spot the wildlife. It boasts 3.5km of riverside rambles that form part of the North Down Coastal Path. There are even two excellent beaches if you fancy a spot of wild swimming.

If a leisurely game of golf is more your bag, you’re in luck. Ireland’s oldest golf club, the Royal Belfast, is just a ten-minute drive away. With a spectacular view over Belfast Lough, it’s one of only five courses in Ireland with Royal status.

Restaurants & Food at The Old Inn

If all the pampering at the Treetop Spa wasn’t enough to make you feel spoiled, The Old Inn is also home to two cosy spaces to eat and drink. You’ll never want to leave!

For a gourmet getaway you’ll never forget, head to the AA-rosette-winning hotel restaurant. With foliage tumbling from every corner, it takes its design inspiration straight from the great outdoors. The 1614 Bar

Stare up at exposed beams and mullioned windows while enjoying a lazy latte, crafty cocktails or a post-spa wine. There’s even live entertainment at the weekends.

Where is Treetop Spa at The Old Inn located?

Dating back to 1614, The Old Inn occupies a fabulous 1.5 acre site in the charming village of Crawfordsburn in Ards and North Down. Crawfordsburn lies between Holywood and Bangor, about two and a half miles west of Bangor city centre.

Located next to the breathtaking Crawfordsburn Country Park, beautiful beaches and picturesque countryside are on its doorstep. But because the buzzing city of Belfast is just 20 minutes away, it’s perfect for those who like to combine a spot of retail therapy and sightseeing with their peace and tranquility.

Who owns Treetop Spa at The Old Inn?

The Treetop Spa nestles at The Old Inn, which has been part of the Galgorm Collection of hotels since 2021. The Galgorm Collection includes the world-famous Galgorm resort itself, plus a number of other luxurious properties across Belfast and Antrim.

When the Galgorm Collection acquired The Old Inn, they gave it a £2.5 million revamp. And we think the Treetop Spa with its gorgeous forest views and excellent thermal facilities was worth every penny!

The Galgorm Collection also refurbished The Cottage, set in a tranquil spot in the hotel grounds. This historic building was famed for being the honeymoon spot of author C.S. Lewis. It still has beautiful period features, but now boasts a secluded outdoor hot tub for the ultimate forest bathing experience.

Is Treetop Spa at The Old Inn family-friendly?

Treetop Spa is blissfully adults-only, although teens aged 16 and 17 can use the facilities with an adult.

However, The Old Inn itself is family-friendly, with rooms that give you the space to spread out. The Restaurant has a kids’ menu filled with favourites like fish finger sandwiches and battered chicken strips. They even do a children’s version of their afternoon tea, so little ones don’t have to miss out.

For family-friendly attractions nearby, try Crawfordsburn Country Park. Boasting two beaches and wooded nature trails, this ocean-front park is just a five-minute drive away. Or take your little explorers to HMS Caroline in Belfast. This decommissioned Royal Navy ship has lots of fun, interactive features to keep all ages entertained.

Is Treetop Spa at The Old Inn accessible?

Yes it is. Along with an accessible entrance at the front of the building and a lift, the hotel has an accessible toilet on the ground floor. There’s also an accessible bedroom located on the ground floor close to reception.

You’ll find plenty of accessible tourist attractions nearby, including Titanic Belfast, Ulster Museum, Belfast Zoo and Crumlin Road Gaol.

Is Treetop Spa at The Old Inn pet-friendly?

Waggy tails get a warm welcome at The Old Inn. Pack their doggy suitcase because there are two dog-friendly Carriage rooms at the hotel. Or they can curl up in The Cottage - as long as they promise not to join you in that fabulous four-poster bed! It costs £15 per dog, per night.

With forest trails and beach walkies nearby, your dog will be in heaven. Good boys and girls can join you in the hotel lobby and garden areas. They’re given their own water bowl, treats and a VIP spot by the fire in the 1614 bar. And, if you want to dine in The Restaurant, you can leave your pooch to relax in the room.

Does Treetop Spa at The Old Inn have a golf course?

There’s no golf course on-site, but a 10-minute drive takes you to the Royal Belfast Golf Club. The oldest golf club in Ireland, the 18-hole parkland course sits on the shore of Belfast Lough and is one of only five golf courses in Ireland with Royal status.

But for something really special, it’s worth taking the 70-minute drive to Royal County Down Golf Club. With stunning views of Dundrum Bay from each one of its 36 holes, Tiger Woods and Tom Watson have used it to prepare for big competitions, while Rory McIlroy is a frequent visitor.
