About

Manicured lawns? Check. Sumptuous spa? Check? Listed architecture that’s straight out of Downton Abbey? Check. There’s nothing like a country retreat when it comes to sheer relaxation. But if you feel like you’ve seen one historic spa hotel, you’ve seen them all, you clearly haven’t paid a visit to The Elms. Why? Because this boutique manor retreat is so full of delightful surprises it makes every visit unforgettable.

Yes, this Grade II-listed, Queen Anne mansion on the outskirts of the cute Worcestershire village of Abberley honours all that’s traditional - think decadent cream teas, formal gardens and acres of parkland. But setting foot inside its lobby is like being transported to a whimsical woodland wonderland where nothing is exactly what it seems.

Creative, quirky and seriously Instagram-worthy backdrops greet you at every turn. In fact, the decor is so full of originality you won’t know where to point your camera first! But while it’s bursting with style and character, The Elms is also supremely comfortable, with cosy fireplaces and sinkably soft chairs to curl up in.

The flamboyant theme of traditional-meets-boujee design continues throughout the 21 individually-styled bedrooms. But they’ve saved their most magical design flair for the Greenhouse Spa. Tiptoe around this two-storey explosion of botanical beauty and you’ll feel like you’ve landed in the rainforest!

There’s a tropical pool, a well-equipped thermal suite and an indoor/outdoor jacuzzi to help you soak up some vitamin D and listen to the birdsong. It even has its own dedicated spa restaurant, Herb, for light lunches and afternoon teas eaten without leaving the comfort of your warm, snuggly robe.

Days and stays of indulgence await. But if you do decide to venture out you’ll find the Severn Valley Railway within a 30-minute drive. Jump on the steam train at Kidderminster and hop on and off along the journey to Bridgnorth at various picturesque villages.

Some of the best shopping in the Midlands can be done in Worcester where you’ll find an eclectic mix of independent boutiques and big-name brands. Or enjoy some magical animal encounters at West Midlands Safari Park - ask at The Elms front desk for a discounted ticket.

But when you’re tired of shopping and sightseeing, know that The Greenhouse Spa at The Elms Hotel awaits you. Put your robe on, and your worries down. Enjoy a soul-soothing, body-beautifying or age-defying Templespa treatment. Then let the tension drift away at this memorable spa destination.

The Spa & Wellness at The Elms Hotel and Spa

The best spas always make you feel like you’ve really gotten away from it all. But at The Greenhouse Spa, the normal world feels so far away it’s like you’ve landed right in the middle of a lush, green rainforest.

You’ll instantly feel at one with nature as you explore this two-storey spa. Plants and rustic materials are used to full effect to bring a holistic, grounded feel to your wellbeing. With extravagant foliage tumbling from every available inch of wall, ceiling and floor space, it’s easy to see why this botanical wonderland has been awarded a five bubble rating.

Step inside and feel your shoulders drop. Stop and smell the lavender and listen to the calming sound of the water features. With so much creative detail crammed into every corner you won’t know where to look first!

Tiptoe around this woodland wonderland for an experience that will linger long after the massage oil’s been washed away. This is much more than your average spa. In fact, the soothing sauna, two aromatic steam rooms, a botanical lounge area and a tropical swimming pool are just the start.

Let your poolside butler bring you something blonde and bubbly while you drink in your surroundings. Just don’t miss the indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool. There’s nothing nicer than soaking in the bubbles with the sun on your face, while listening to real, live birdsong.

And just when you thought you were relaxed, it’s time to go deeper into bliss with a ritual in a sumptuous and stylish treatment room. Most popular? The Drift Away massage from Templespa. This deeply relaxing back massage is formulated with a dreamy blend of Mediterranean essential oils including frankincense, lavender and patchouli. Heaven!

The Gym & Fitness at The Elms Hotel and Spa

Hate hotel gyms with strip lighting, a single treadmill and queues for the weight rack? Don’t sweat it. The Elms has an entire suite dedicated to your holistic fitness and wellness. Swish, stylish and state-of-the-art, it meets the needs of even the most demanding of gym bunnies.

Housed in a separate building, this ultra modern space is crammed to its well-designed rafters with top-of-the-range LifeFitness equipment, stacks of weights, a HIIT workout area, and there’s even a spin studio for a serious calorie burn. There’s an outdoor bootcamp with weights and a punching bag, plus a tranquil yoga studio for classes and activities.

Don’t know your bench press from your dumbbell? Booking a personal training session will help you kick-start your new, healthy lifestyle. But there are plenty of ways to get active in the fresh air, too. Stroll around the 10 acres of grounds or challenge your friends or your other half to a game of tennis.

Like to cover more ground? The beautiful Malvern Hills are a 30 minute drive away and make a great destination for walkers of all ages and abilities.

Restaurants & Food at The Elms Hotel and Spa

If it’s not a spa day without savouring a gourmet treat (or a post-massage cocktail or two) make sure you visit Badgers, the contemporary restaurant and bar. Like the rest of the hotel, you’ll find it’s far from ordinary.

Snug and cosy with the same quirky woodland theme, it has sinkably soft seating, a laid-back atmosphere and gastropub-style options that celebrate the best of British flavours, like fish and chips, burgers and sticky toffee pudding.

Here on an overnight stay? You’ll be back in Badgers for breakfast. Choose from a buffet groaning with homemade granola, pastries and fruit. Peruse the hot menu while you drink your coffee or sweet fruit juice. Then order something filling that will set you up for the day.

If you’re here to visit the spa and decide you want to stay for afternoon tea or a light lunch, you’ll eat in Herb - and you don’t even have to get dressed. Just be careful not to get crumbs inside your robe!

Hotel & spa facilities are spot on - a grand, countrified hotel but with contemporary music and friendly staff so it’s not pretentious or stuffy! Had 3 treatments - all ok but have had better at other spas. Loved the indoor/outdoor Jacuzzi and “experience” shower! Get the treatments improved & I’ll come back. Expensive for what we had. Also - need clearer communication between SpaSeekers and hotel about what’s included and what’s not. Had to query everything! And show voucher a lot.

The Elms Hotel & Spa is a truly lovely relaxing venue to have a relaxing break with a friend or loved one. The warm, inviting fireplaces, excellent dining experience and large windows provide a great outlook across the surrounding landscape - all make the experience truly pleasing and the free Elemis gift was the finishing touch - definitely a place to revisit & recommend.

The Elms is a beautiful spa hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was there with my two daughters and my grandaughter whose about to start her third year at university. I had an amazing massage which left me feeling very relaxed. We went as part of your advertised package and my only complaint is that it included staying in the Gladstone Suite and at the last minute the price was increased by £50 per person. The reason given was that they were busy. We declined and stayed in alternate rooms which were very nice but not as advertised

My girlfriends and I go away for a spa weekend with SpaSeekers every year. We have always had good experiences. The Elms is a very classy hotel and perhaps has not included itself in these kinds of packages previously. The spa is lovely, treatments were great, accommodation, food and service all excellent. The staff are proud of where they work. Recommend this.

Pinkie fingers aloft, because afternoon tea at The Elms Hotel & Spa is the best thing since sliced bread. Whether it’s a special occasion or just because, who needs an excuse to snaffle tiny triangle sandwiches and almost-too-pretty-to-eat cakes?

Served in Herb for spa-goers who can’t bear to leave the comfort of their snuggly robes, you’ll sip, scoff and socialise with perfectly trimmed sandwiches, savoury canapes, patisserie and those all-important freshly baked scones. At 12m it’s long enough for lengths, or just float like a starfish and gaze up at the wooden vaulted ceiling above. There’s a powerful jet to help knead your neck and shoulders.
