About

Nothing says ‘sophisticated spa day’ quite like an iconic five-star hotel. So it’s no wonder Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel is such a dream location for those who seek the finer things in life. In the centre of Glasgow, overlooking the private gardens of one of the city’s most famous squares, it makes a suitably historic backdrop for days and stays of pure indulgence.

Heritage abounds at this landmark destination. Two centuries old and made up of a row of Georgian townhouses, it was an oasis for the city’s wealthy elite back in its Victorian heyday. The Royal Scottish Automobile Club took over the building in the 20th century and the square rocked to the sound of revving engines and high-society parties.

These days, the comings and goings at Glasgow’s best address are far more serene, but the hotel still hums with urban energy. Come in from outside and step into the lobby. The hotel’s glossy marble trimmings may be luxurious, but just wait until you set eyes on what’s waiting for you in its newly-refurbished basement spa.

This subterranean wonderland takes its inspiration from the Scottish Hebrides thanks to an award-winning combination of natural materials and locally-sourced seaweed rituals from Ishga. Go on a thermal journey through tranquil hydrotherapy pools, aromatherapy saunas and crystal steam rooms. It’s even home to Scotland’s first snow shower should you need to cool off.

Located on the western flank of the city centre, this glamorous location puts you in pole position for all of Glasgow’s best bits. Fantastic shopping at Sauchiehall Street is close by. Spend the morning strolling through the Buchanan Galleries, or pay a visit to the impressive Glasgow Cathedral. Soak up some culture at the Riverside Museum or feel inspired at the Glasgow Science Centre.

Beyond its incredible location and wow-factor wellness facilities, Kimpton Blythswood Square offers 113 light and bright rooms, along with the elegant Iasg restaurant for a meal crafted using the best of the country’s natural bounty. With everything you need for the perfectly pampering package, you may never want to leave.

The Spa & Wellness at Spa at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel

Sink into serenity at the Spa at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow, a place where only the best will do. This basement wellness wonderland has undergone a seriously swish makeover with your utter bliss in mind.

Forget spas with a solitary sauna the size of a broom cupboard. In fact there’s so much on offer here you may wonder where to start. Luckily, there are four curated thermal journeys designed to promote stillness, clarity, energy or relaxation.

They all start with a dip in the tranquil hydrotherapy pools. Soak in the bubbles of all three, but don’t miss Coll, a sensory immersion experience with low lighting, volcano floor jets and a twinkly, star-lit ceiling.

Flit between saunas and crystal healing steam rooms infused with Ishga essences to purify your skin. Lie back on heated marble loungers in the tepidarium. Cocoon yourself in the anti-inflammatory properties of the custom-built Himalayan salt room. If the heat gets too much, there’s always Scotland’s first snow shower to cool you off.

But your pampering treat doesn’t end there. After you’ve fully immersed yourself in this sanctuary, you can lie back on a warm bed in a treatment room while a trained therapist uses Ishga seaweed-based products from the Hebrides to gently pummel, beautify or soothe you.

The Gym & Fitness at Spa at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel

Whether you’re training for a marathon or just looking to maintain your fitness levels, a stay at Kimpton Blythswood Square doesn’t mean you need to leave your goals at home. Its fitness centre has facilities that are suitable for everyone, so you’ll leave feeling more motivated than ever before.

The hotel may date back to Victorian times, but its gym is bang up to date and crammed with kit. Sweat it out on the Peloton exercise bike, do a spot of rowing or lift the free weights. You can exercise with a view thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows.

Yoga is big at Kimpton Blythswood Square, with yoga mats in every guest-room wardrobe and sessions taking place in the Nook. Prefer to exercise in the great outdoors? Pick up a city map so you can walk, stroll or bike around Glasgow.

Restaurants & Food at Spa at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel

If all that unwinding has worked up an appetite, at Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel you won’t go hungry (or thirsty) for long. Its Iasg restaurant is just the place for delicious dinners and slap-up Scottish breakfasts, served in elegant surroundings.

Pronounced “ee-usk” and meaning fish in Gaelic, dining here means indulging in the finest Scottish seafood around. Particular favourites include scallops, beautifully presented and served with a fennel and sourdough crumb. Not a fish-lover? No problem. You’ll also find bistro-style fillet steak or mouth-watering venison.

Even the cocktails have a Scottish seafood twist, with bartenders on hand to shake you up an oyster shell martini or pour you a seaweed salt margarita.

My husband and I were very impressed with the spa facilities, wonderful layout, not overcrowded at all, some facilities I hadn't seen before like the dark pool and snow room which were both fantastic. We had the 2 course meal in the hotel restaurant afterwards and it surpassed our expectations, really excellent, high quality menu, we were surprised at the standard included in a very reasonably priced deal!
