Like to energise as well as relax? You’ll find a decent spread of cardio machines alongside free weights and resistance kit, so you can get your heart rate up or work on your strength before settling into spa mode.

There are a few more unusual options too, like aerial yoga, where you’re supported in a hammock suspended from the ceiling. Classes run throughout the day, so it’s worth taking a look at what’s on when you book your visit.

If you’d rather get your steps up in the great outdoors, you’re in luck. The Thames Path runs right past the Cutty Sark, perfect for a riverside stroll with views across to Canary Wharf. For something more challenging, tackle the steep climb up through Greenwich Park to the Royal Observatory and reward yourself with the panoramic views from the top.

There’s no café or restaurant on site at Meridian, so it’s worth packing a refillable water bottle to keep you hydrated. A healthy snack in your bag won’t go amiss either, especially if you’re planning a workout before your treatments.

The good news is that some of Greenwich’s best food and drink is just a short stroll away. Head into the heart of Greenwich and you’ll find cafés, bakeries and restaurants to suit every appetite. On most days, Greenwich Market is packed with street food stalls serving everything from steaming noodles to sweet treats.

For something with a bit more history, the riverside Trafalgar Tavern has been serving thirsty Londoners since the 1830s, and Charles Dickens was said to be a fan. Its big windows look straight out over the Thames, making it a lovely spot for a pint or a hearty pub lunch. 

No, there’s no swimming pool here, but you won’t be short of ways to warm up and wind down. Spa days include use of the sauna and steam room, so you can let the dry heat ease your muscles, then step into the steam to clear your head. Add in the gym and a menu packed with Elemis treatments, and there’s plenty to fill your visit.

Meridian is a day spa, so there are no bedrooms on site. If you fancy turning your pampering into a mini break, though, Greenwich has a good range of hotels and guesthouses within easy reach. 

As a day spa, Meridian doesn’t have check-in and check-out times like a hotel. Your arrival time will be confirmed when you book. It’s a good idea to arrive a little early, so you’ve got time to change, settle in and make the most of the sauna and steam room. Opening hours can vary on weekends and bank holidays, so double-check before you set off.

Most spa days include a robe, towel and slippers, so you can leave the fluffy stuff at home. Just pack your swimwear for the sauna and steam room, and dry underwear for your treatment. If you’re planning to hit the gym, bring your workout kit and trainers too. A refillable water bottle is handy as there’s no café on site, and flip flops if your package doesn’t include slippers.

You’ll find Meridian at 38 Creek Road, which is the point where Greenwich meets Deptford. The road takes its name from Deptford Creek, where the River Ravensbourne flows into the Thames, an area that has been steeped in shipbuilding and seafaring history for centuries. Today, it’s a lively mix of old and new, with riverside walks, galleries and the grand architecture of Maritime Greenwich, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, right on its doorstep.

Meridian’s spa days are for adults only, so this is your chance to enjoy some well-earned peace away from the kids. Greenwich is great for families, though, so you could always bring everyone back another day to explore the Cutty Sark or the National Maritime Museum together.

For something a little different, take the cable car across the Thames for bird’s-eye views of the city, or catch a show under the stars at the Royal Observatory’s planetarium. Music fans can see what’s on at The O2, while the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Market are just a short walk away.

Yes. There’s a lift up to the spa, steam room and sauna, the floors are completely flat, and the treatment beds can be raised or lowered for comfort.

Sadly, four-legged friends will have to sit this one out, as pets aren’t allowed at the spa. Can a pal watch your pooch while you pamper? Greenwich Park is just up the road and it makes a glorious spot for post-spa walkies.

There’s no golf course at Meridian, but if you’re keen to tee off, there are several courses within a short drive of Greenwich.
