About

Many of the finest retreats in the UK were once large country houses, and the glorious Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort is no exception. Located amid 240 acres of truly beautiful woodland, this former Edwardian mansion is dramatic, decadent and delightful, making it perfect for days of indulgence and escapes that soothe the soul from the moment you arrive.

The former estate of the Earl of Mar, this 19th-century Gothic mansion was designed by the same architect who created the British Museum. It once served as a hospital during World War II but a magnificent restoration has transformed it into a luxurious hotel that’s a true A-list favourite, with Beyoncé, Harry Styles and Robbie Williams among the famous names in the guest book.

The exciting metropolis of Glasgow is just a few miles away, so be sure to explore the elegant architecture, the vibrant nightlife and the cultural landmarks of one of the world’s great cities. Mar Hall is close to the Clyde, where lovely riverside walks are a must, and to the north the spectacular Loch Lomond is just a short drive away.

With more than 50 sumptuous bedrooms, Mar Hall Golf and Spa Reort is the perfect spot for an overnight idyll. The spa’s eight gorgeous treatment rooms represent a serene sanctuary, and there’s a wonderful gym for when you’re feeling energised. You’ll also fall in love with the magnificent golf course here, not to mention the rightly celebrated restaurant.

You can even choose to spend some time in the blissful spa garden. It’s bookable in advance, but worth the extra charge to experience its four-person jacuzzi and heated loungers overlooking the River Clyde and Kilpatrick Hills.

Then it’s time to dive deeper into euphoria with a treatment designed to reconnect your body, mind and soul. Here in the zen-like treatment rooms, therapists help you find the ritual that best suits your needs, then apply their knot-untying know-how to really lift your spirits.

Lay back and enjoy an aromatherapy facial tailored just for you. Blending innovation with nature, Decléor’s ingredients care for every skin type and age. Or try a replenishing massage, or purifying detox wrap that will leave your skin looking and feeling radiant. Pedicures, waxing and beauty treatments add the perfect finishing touch, then retreat to the relaxation room to prolong the feel-good factor.

The Gym & Fitness at Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort

Work out, stretch out and chill out, because Mar Hall has first-class facilities designed to help you reach your goals.

First stop, the well-equipped gym which is packed full of the very latest equipment. Use the weights to tone or hit the cardio machines to work up a sweat - there’s always the 20m pool to cool off in afterwards.

If the gym’s not your style, why not enjoy a hike around the grounds or in the countryside beyond? As you might expect from a retreat that’s surrounded by 240 acres of glorious woodland, you can savour some unforgettable walks here, accompanied by views that may well take your breath away.

There are some great jogging trails in and around the wooded estate, plus river walks to enjoy, so ask the hotel for a map. Or get sporty and sociable at Mar Hall’s impressive 18-hole course. It provides an interesting challenge for all skill levels and you’ll definitely burn some calories retrieving your ball from the bunkers.

Restaurants & Food at Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort

If all that unwinding has worked up an appetite, you’re in for a treat at Mar Hall. There are two options here to add the sparkle to your sumptuous spa staycation.

Spike Bar

Your glamorous night begins with an aperitif at the mahogany-lined Spike Bar. Choose something from the dangerously-good cocktail list, or settle in for the night under the chandeliers with one of the exceptional single malts. If you like, you can even have something informal to nibble on, like fish and chips or a club sandwich ordered from the bar menu.

Cristal

Love to get dressed for dinner? You’ll feel right at home in the Cristal restaurant.. More than just a fine dining experience, the wonderfully ornate room lets you live out all your Downton Abbey fantasies as you sample Scottish seasonal produce under the sparkling chandeliers that adorn its ornate vaulted ceilings.

Cristal looks out over Mar Hall’s 18-hole championship golf course and has 20-foot windows draped with luxury fabrics. Art by Archie Forrest makes a great talking point over dinner - and chances are you’ll feel like you’re lord and lady of the manor enjoying a glittering gathering.

Spa was lovely. Obviously just been renovated. We loved the relaxation area in between treatments etc. The warm tiled beds by the hot tub were amazing. What a view! I loved watching the birds of prey. Staff were really lovely in both the spa and the lunch area. Definitely would recommend. Wish there were a few signs to keep you on the right track but otherwise it was a brilliant day.

What an amazingly relaxing time we had at our spacation recently. Full marks to not only the spa staff but the hotel staff also. Would recommend the spa and overnight stay. It made 1 day feel like a whole weekend. A great way to recharge.

Beautiful location, majestic hotel, excellent food, satisfactory spa

As spas go, it ticks most of the boxes. There is a good size pool. One of the two steam rooms was in operation but both saunas were closed. The treatments we experienced were pleasant and relaxing but not exceptional, although the staff were professional in their approach. Mar Hall spa is just one among many satisfactory spas. However, we chose Mar Hall for a "spacation" package and and it is this that makes the location worthwhile. The hotel is in a beautiful location. The building is majestic, the public rooms are grand and the bedrooms are large and well furnished. Dinner is an extra, but the fine dining is top class even if the portions are a little frugal. Breakfast is a full Scottish buffet with good variety and a continental buffet as an alternative. We would return for the same experience, but if we were just looking for a spa day without the other aspects, we have experienced better facilities and treatments in more ordinary surroundings.

The spa at Mar Hall is outstanding. The therapists who provided the treatments were professional with a real sense of treating customers as individuals. We had facials and back massages, carried out with expertise. Afterwards we were shown into the relaxation room with water and green tea available. I had emailed the spa to check that all products were cruelty-free and as a result, Voya products, which have the Leaping Bunny logo, were used. It’s worth asking for cruelty-free as many popular products don’t meet this standard.

It does. And pinkie fingers at the ready, because this is one indulgent treat that is not to be missed. Perfect for those who love all the traditional trimmings of fine china and luxurious surroundings, afternoon tea at Mar Hall is an elegant affair.

Expect three-tiers groaning with goodies, served among the impressive antiques, tapestries and tasteful decor of the 118-feet long Grand Hall. Mar Hall's main architectural glory, the Grand Hall runs the length of the building.

Stop gazing at the truly spectacular ceiling, modelled on a gothic Elizabethan mansion, to savour the well-filled sandwiches, delicate savouries, homemade cakes and feather-light scones, served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve. Pop a glass of fizz, or choose from a menu of aromatic blends, imported by specialist tea suppliers from around the world.

Afternoon tea is served in Mar Hall’s Grand Hall from Monday to Sunday between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. So just sip, scoff and socialise in style as you soak up those magnificent views of the manicured gardens though the Grand Hall’s imposing Edwardian windows.

Does Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort have a swimming pool?

It does and it’s really impressive. Forget poky pools you can’t really swim in, because this 20m azure lagoon is spacious enough to perfect your breaststroke. Large, indoor and heated, there’s a sauna and steam room to relax in after your laps.

What is there to do at Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort?

Leisure is very much the order of the day here. You can wander, power walk or even jog round the grounds, go for a hole in one at the 18 hole-championship golf course or hit the gym for a workout.

There’s a 20m swimming pool perfect for laps, and a steam room and sauna to relax tired muscles afterwards. The zen-like Decleor Spa offers a wide range of treatments from facials to body treatments, while in the evening you can work your way through the cocktail menu at the mahogany-lined Spike Bar, then enjoy sparkling fine-dining in the Cristal Restaurant.

Does Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort have accommodation?

Absolutely! You can easily extend your spa day into a spa break because Mar Hall boasts 53 comfortable rooms and prestigious suites to retire to after a day packed full of spa treatments. Rooms are spacious and equipped with elegant furnishings and modern amenities, while fluffy bathrobes and Egyptian cotton linen add to your luxurious experience.

Where is Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort?

You’ll find the resort hotel on the banks of the River Clyde, in the historic 240-acre estate of the Earls of Mar. Is Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort accessible?

It is. There is reserved disabled parking, adapted bedrooms and access throughout with ramps and lifts.

Is Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort family-friendly?

Children under 16 can’t have treatments or enter the adults-only spa, but little ones can have a splash in the pool. And they’ll get a good night’s sleep afterwards, too. Cots, highchairs and rollaway beds are available on request, plus some of the Mar Hall’s Deluxe Rooms have comfy sofa beds.

There are children’s menus for fussy eaters, or you can all eat in the room, before cosying up together in your huge bed to watch a film or TV show on a flat-screen TV.

Is Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort pet-friendly?

It is, but they’ll need to save up their paw-cket money! The hotel welcomes four-legged friends and has luxury dog-friendly rooms, but it costs a non-refundable £50 supplement, per room per night.

Once here, they’re not allowed in the restaurant, bar, or Grand Hall. But chances are your waggy-tailed wonders won’t want to be inside - not with 240 acres of countryside, historic woodlands and riverside walkways to explore.

Does Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort have a golf course?

Yes it does. The prestigious Earl of Mar Scottish championship golf course sweeps through the Scottish countryside, with 250-year-old chestnut and beech trees adding history and challenge.

Perfect for those who love to combine relaxing spa breaks with a round of golf, Mar Hall’s championship golf course has 18 holes. Kept in top condition, and with generously proportioned fairways, the par-70 course has stunning views of the River Clyde and Old Kilpatrick Hills.
