How to beat the January blues

January can be a flat time, with the winter plodding on and all the fun of Christmas well and truly over. As a result, many of us can find that this time of year brings low energy levels and a ‘grey’ mood. In this article, we offer some tips to get you over the January blues and keep you feeling (and looking) good throughout the winter months.

Making the most of winter

Lots of people hate the cold weather, but winter can be a wonderful time. Think drinking hot chocolate in front of a cosy log fire, snuggling up under the duvet, and maybe even enjoying some ‘invigorating’ outdoor activities. Here are a few ways to brighten up what’s left of winter:

Commit to completing some indoor projects: Spending more time indoors during the winter months means you can finally get to all those things you’ve been putting off, like clearing out the loft, painting the kitchen or assembling that new shelving unit. Think of the satisfaction when you’ve finished! You can also dive into that book or boxset you’ve been meaning to start.

Indulge in some winter-inspired beauty: The colder months provide an opportunity to update your beauty regime, with luxurious, hydrating products designed to protect and nourish your skin. You can also experiment with some on-trend winter make-up and nail polish colours.

Enjoy the outdoors: During winter, it can be tempting to hide away in the warm. However, the colder months offer the chance to see and experience some wonderful things, such as frosty cobwebs and stepping into fresh snow. Wrap up warm and get back to nature! If you really can’t bear to venture outside, why not set up a feeder in your garden, or on your balcony, and do some winter wildlife spotting?

Looking ahead to the summer

Once the Christmas decorations have been packed away, thoughts move to the coming year. For many people, this means the advent of spring and summer when (hopefully!) we get lots of warm days and plenty of extra daylight. While in the middle January the summer months can seem a long way off, there are some things you can do now to prepare for the change in seasons:

Plan your summer holiday: Even if you’re not in a position to book too far ahead, making a list of places you would like to go and searching online for some deals can start to build the excitement. You could even book your annual leave from work. It can be a real boost to set your holiday dates and write them on your calendar. You’ll be counting down the weeks before you know it!

Fill up your summer diary: Whether you like to spend your summers at music festivals, fairs or enjoying family-friendly outings, check out some local listings and start to compile your summer schedule.

Get your body ready for summer: With the festive temptations out the way, January is a great time to start a health and wellness regime, such as with a visit to a health spa. Begin now and you will start to see real positive changes by the time the sun (finally) appears and you can shed those winter layers.

A spa day or longer spa break can really help you beat the January blues, as well as give you a lift at any time of the year. For details of our latest offers, why not give our team a call today?
