About

Whenever your to-do list starts piling up, there’s only one thing for it - take yourself off to the idyllic haven that is The Spa at Bedford Lounge. Nestled in a peaceful corner of the grounds of the gorgeously Georgian Bedford Lodge hotel you’ll find everything you need to press life’s reset button.

From weekend breaks to calming spa days, at this five-bubble-rated beauty, nothing will come between you and your zen. Set on the edge of the historic town of Newmarket, just adjacent to the racecourse, this enchanting retreat was once owned by the Duke of Bedford. Today the former hunting lodge’s period charm has been artfully fused with chic, contemporary design flair.

Check-in then chill-out. With 77 elegantly appointed rooms, each a harmonious blend of modern luxury and traditional elegance, it’s hard not to feel relaxed here. But for those seeking complete rejuvenation, the award-winning Spa at Bedford Lodge is an experience not to be missed.

Tiptoe down lavender-lined paths away from the hotel and into a serene world of wellness, housed in a charming Victorian building. With an array of top-notch ESPA and beauty treats to tempt you, there’s also a hydrotherapy pool with five unique water experiences, a rooftop hot tub with incredible views and a sumptuous thermal suite. Here with someone extra special? Enjoy a ritual together from the comfort of a suite designed for two.

The hotel offers three acres of glorious grounds to explore, and the world-famous town of Newmarket is right on the doorstep. The National Horseracing Museum is close by, as is the one of the finest racecourses in the UK. If you’re keen to explore, the celebrated towns of Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds are worth a visit, and Thetford Forest is also within easy reach.

As evening falls, the dining experience at the two AA-rosette-winning Squires takes centre stage. The restaurant, with its cosy ambiance, modern décor, and exquisite art, offers a delightful setting for dinner, or a dangerously good cocktail or two, before you drift off to bed.

The Spa & Wellness at The Spa at Bedford Lodge

Seasoned spa-goer looking for something extra special? Step right this way. The five-bubble-rated Spa at Bedford Lodge has a mantelpiece positively groaning with awards, with its most recent accolade the highly-coveted AA Recommended Spa Award.

Tiptoe down the lavender-lined path from the hotel and you’ll soon see what all the fuss is about. Set in a beautiful white Victorian building surrounded by stunning rose gardens, it makes the perfect backdrop to your day of unwinding.

With your robe and slippers on, it’s time to try out the hydrotherapy pool. Double-height windows look out onto the outdoor seating area and beautiful gardens beyond. But while you won’t tire of the view, you won’t tire of the pool either, thanks to the five different water experiences on offer.

Suitably pummelled, it’s time to head upstairs to the rooftop hot tub. With spectacular views over Newmarket’s racing Gallops, it’s heated all year-round, and made to be enjoyed in any kind of weather. But on lazy summer days there’s nothing better than sunning yourself from the comfort of your lounger in this secluded, intimate space - preferably with something bubbly in hand.

Throughout your day you’ll find plenty of cosy nooks to curl up in with a magazine. The spa mezzanine has relaxing beds, while the stunning relaxation room is always on-hand for that all-important post-massage snooze.

Spa rituals take place in one of ten zen-like treatment rooms, with heated beds that just add to your bliss. But before your treatment, make sure you take a trip to the thermal area with its hammam table to loosen muscular tensions and allow your mind to relax.

The Gym & Fitness at The Spa at Bedford Lodge

Is the gym your tonic? A trip to Bedford Lodge’s on-site Health & Fitness Club will keep you feeling motivated. Available free of charge to overnight guests, it features state-of-the-art Life Fitness treadmills, cross trainers and bikes to help you work up a sweat. Prefer to pump some iron? There’s also resistance equipment, free weights and exercise mats for whole-body workouts.

Fully air-conditioned, there’s a surround sound system and large, flat-screen TVs to make every workout feel like a breeze. Don’t like to go it alone? A weekly timetable of classes take place in the fitness studio, from power yoga to barre. Hotel residents can book at reception and it costs just £6 per class (price subject to change).

If the gym’s not your style, make sure you pack your walking boots as some spectacular walks await you from the hotel’s front door. Make sure you don’t leave town without paying at least one visit to Newmarket’s famous Gallops. Just adjacent to the hotel, these 2,500 acres of training grounds are used on a daily basis by over 3,000 of the town’s equine residents for their morning exercise!

However, after the horses have left for the day you can walk along the Gallops for panoramic views of the town. Try to spot The Millennium Stand at the Rowley Mile Racecourse or the roof of the famed sales ring at Tattersalls.

Restaurants & Food at The Spa at Bedford Lodge

After a long hard day spent unwinding and spoiling yourself, there’s nothing nicer than a delicious meal and a cocktail (or two). And, at The Spa at Bedford Lodge, you won’t go hungry (or thirsty) for long. Some chic dining spaces await you, from the relaxed and robe-friendly to something that’s well worth getting dressed up for.

The Spa Lounge

Comfortable and informal, this is the place to head for tasty breakfasts, healthy lunches or indulgent afternoon teas. Open throughout the day and evening, there’s Champagne and wine served by the glass, as well as fresh juices and coffees and teas. And, with a range of platters to share for two or more, your visit to the spa just got even more sociable.

Roxana Bar

With a roaring log fire in the winter and a sunny outdoor terrace with glorious views in the summer, Roxana serves a bar menu of snacks, small plates and sandwiches. With fabulous brunches and tempting afternoon teas, it’s also the place to go to try the hotel’s dangerously good ‘cocktail of the month’.

Squires Restaurant

There’s nothing nicer than rounding off your spa visit with a spot of fine dining. The hotel’s two AA Rosette-winning restaurant won’t disappoint, thanks to its cosy atmosphere and menu brimming with locally-sourced produce. They’re so proud of the provenance of their food that the hotel has even made a Google map of its suppliers to show they all lie within a 50 mile radius!

Love it here! This is my second visit and it's great. Really clean, and the hydrotherapy pool is wonderful. We went for the moonlight bubbles which was great - it's a lot quieter at that time, plus being in a spa with the darkness outside is so relaxing!

My first visit to this spa and it was lovely. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Facilities were better then I expected. Had a facial and massage which were fab and my therapist was lovely. The relaxation areas in the spa and after your treatments are comfortable and relaxing. Loved the rooftop hot tub. Went home thoroughly relaxed, refreshed and pampered. Will definitely be back.

I purchased this for my friend and I. We were both in need of some relaxation and this place did not disappoint. It was a Tues eve and there was only 2 other couples. The Jacuzzi on the rooftop was lovely with our Prosecco. The only gripe is the package said it was champagne and this wasn’t offered.
