About
The Isle of Anglesey isn’t short on scenic splendour. But while the whole of its rugged coastline may be a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we’ve found the perfect excuse to head inland. Tucked just outside the Welsh-speaking market town of Llangefni, Tre-Ysgawen Hall is a country house hotel full of character. This multi-award-winning boutique bolthole can trace its history back to 1882 – but the top-notch spa ensures it doesn’t skimp on the modern luxury.
Sweep up the private, wooded drive and into a fairytale. Once the family home of wealthy landowners, its hotel conversion lost none of the stately charm. Sash windows, intricate stonework and classic fireplaces set a Downtown-Abbey tone, while lush antiques and squashy sofas add a home-from-home feel – even if your home doesn’t happen to be a Victorian mansion set in 11 acres of gardens and woodland!
Checking-in? Good choice. Head up the grand staircase to one of 28 uniquely styled bedrooms bursting with period features – some even have four-poster beds to flop on. Wander back down again to Romana’s, where Italian tradition meets the best of local Anglesey produce. Prefer something more laid‑back? The Clock Tower serves hearty favourites in a relaxed setting. Wherever you choose to dine, the hotel’s farm‑to‑fork ethos makes every meal a celebration of Anglesey’s heritage.
Switch into a slower gear at the spa. Converted from the original Victorian stables hidden in the grounds, there’s a 16‑metre swimming pool, thermal suite and six treatment rooms for ESPA rituals. Warm lighting and calming music keep this sanctuary serene, but if a session in the salt inhalation therapy room has left you feeling energetic, the Tre-Ysgawen 300 Gym is just next door. Fully kitted out and recently refurbished, it’s the perfect spot for a quick workout before you slip back into spa mode!
With so much on offer, we wouldn’t blame you for not setting foot beyond Tre‑Ysgawen’s front doorstep. But if you do decide to venture out, you’re perfectly placed to explore Great Britain’s fifth‑largest island. Llangefni is a hub of Welsh culture and language and home to Oriel Môn, an award‑winning gallery and museum, and the weekly Llangefni Market for traditional bara brith. Anglesey’s coastal path is a short drive away, history lovers can visit Beaumaris Castle or Plas Newydd House, and nature seekers can explore the nearby Dingle Nature Reserve.

The Spa & Wellness at Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Country House Hotel & Spa
Tucked away in the grounds of Tre‑Ysgawen Hall, the spa is a serene sanctuary designed for relaxation. At its heart is a 16‑metre heated indoor pool, flanked by rows of loungers that invite you to stretch out with a book, sip a drink or simply have a snooze.
The Jacuzzi bubbles away in its own cosy corner, but the spa’s new thermal suite is where things get really interesting! Start with the experience shower, which shifts from cool mist to warm tropical rain at the touch of a button. Move into the herbal sauna then cool down at the Ice Fountain for a refreshing hit to boost your circulation.
But the star of the show is the new salt inhalation therapy room. Inspired by the health benefits of breathing ozone‑rich coastal air, it replaces the traditional steam room with a gentler, mineral‑rich environment that leaves you feeling clear, calm and deeply restored.
When it’s time for some hands-on pampering, the spa’s six treatment rooms offer rituals from ESPA, renowned for their holistic approach and soothing aromatherapy scents Whether you choose a massage, facial or a full‑body salt scrub, every treatment is crafted to leave you looking and feeling your best.
The Gym & Fitness at Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Country House Hotel & Spa
Fitness fan? Better pack your leggings! The hotel’s newly-refurbished gym is called Tre-Ysgawen 300 Gym. Why? Because it’s limited to just 300 members, meaning you won’t have to queue for the treadmills! From state-of-the-art cardio machines and free weights to resistance equipment, it’s the perfect place to keep your routine on track.
Prefer to exercise in the fresh Anglesey air? Step outside and explore the hotel’s woodland trails. But if you’re feeling more adventurous, the island will be your outdoor playground.
Head to Newborough Forest for running, walking or cycling, tackle a stretch of the 130-mile long Anglesey Coastal Path, or try watersports at Rhosneigr or Beaumaris. Whether you’re hiking, biking or paddling, you’ll find plenty of ways to get your heart rate up here!
Restaurants & Food at Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Country House Hotel & Spa
Ultra‑indulgent spa breaks deserve food that’s just as memorable – and at Tre‑Ysgawen Hall, eating and drinking is all part of the pampering. With a farm‑to‑fork ethos and a focus on using Anglesey’s own produce, you can expect fresh flavours, creative twists and plenty of local ingredients.
The Clock Tower Restaurant
Spa‑day lunch or brunch included? You’ll be heading to the Clock Tower where robes (and dogs) are given a warm welcome. With the laid-back feel of a sports bar, you’ll tuck into crowd-pleasing classics like steak frites, or something lighter like sandwiches and wraps.
Romana’s
For elegant evening dining from 6pm onwards, or a hearty lunch on Sunday, Romana’s brings its Mediterranean twist to the hotel. Tuck into pizza, pasta or Welsh lamb chops served Italian-style, in this beautifully restored dining room.
