About

With peacocks, pampering and a pool beneath a stained-glass window, Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa is crammed full of character. This majestic Georgian manor is tucked into 262 acres of rolling Cheshire countryside, with gorgeous views and a spa housed in a former chapel. It’s the kind of place where wellness comes with the wow-factor, along with lashings of history and heritage thrown in for good measure.

Sweep up the long, winding drive to find Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa looking every bit as grand as you’d hope. Peacocks roaming the grounds set the tone for your stay – serene, stately and just a little bit theatrical. In a former life, the estate was a missionary college run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. Today, the chapel has been transformed into the Bazaar Spa and, while the hushed sense of calm remains, these days it’s the pool, steam room, sauna and whirlpool tub that are the answer to your pampering prayers! Zen-like treatment rooms use artful applications of Bazaar’s own luxe products, while a quick slipper shuffle outside takes you to the Bazaar spa garden with its blissfully warm infinity pool.

Checking in for the night? Some 154 rooms ooze heritage charm and modern comfort, many with golf-course views. When hunger strikes you can pull up a plush armchair for an elegant afternoon tea, go for a delicious dinner with lakeside views in The Restaurant or hit the Courtyard Bar for hand-crafted cocktails and cosy catch-ups.

There’s plenty to do without ever leaving the grounds, from teeing off on the 18-hole championship golf course to taking a stroll through the landscaped gardens. History buffs can follow the Shrigley Hall history trail, which winds through the estate with vintage photos and tales of scandal and spirituality. You’ll even find a timeline tucked near the grand staircase if you fancied a post-spa wander.

But if you did want to venture out, you’re just minutes from the National Trust’s Lyme Park estate, or the bustling market town of Macclesfield with its boutique shops and historic houses. Keen cyclists can take on the legendary Brickworks climb, while walkers can explore the nearby Peak District National Park. And with Manchester only 15 miles away, the buzz is always within reach of your countryside cocoon.

The Spa & Wellness at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa

The ultimate spa escape? A sanctuary of serenity tucked away inside a former chapel, where stained glass windows cast rainbow reflections across the warm relaxation pool and the only sound you’ll hear is the gentle bubbling of a whirlpool.

Step inside Bazaar Spa and you’re greeted by vaulted ceilings, soft lighting and a luxurious, Eastern-inspired vibe. Melt into the steam room, then let the heat of the sauna work out every knot. Outside, the heated infinity pool set in the Spa Garden is warmed to a toasty 38°C. It’s perfect for sunset soaks even in colder months, thanks to flickering fire pits that keep you feeling cosy.

Treatments range from soothing facials and massages to full-body rituals using Bazaar’s own luxe products. After your treatment, head to the relaxation area to sip herbal tea, or the Silk Road spa restaurant to nibble on a pastry. This is the kind of place where time slows down, a

The Gym & Fitness at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa

Want to offset the calories from your afternoon tea? We hear you. Luckily, a spa escape to Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa isn’t just about lounging in robes (although we fully support that lifestyle). If you’re in the mood to move, the on-site gym is kitted out with cardio machines and free weights, while the 262-acre estate offers plenty of scenic walking and jogging trails.

If you fancy something a little more playful, grab a ball and have a go at footgolf. There’s a six-hole golf course (alongside the championship course) tucked away on the grounds, perfect for a friendly game or two.

But if you prefer pedalling to pampering, Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa makes a dream base. Nestled at the foot of the legendary Brickworks climb that featured in the Tour of Britain, it’s surrounded by some of the most scenic and challenging routes in the North West. The hotel offers secure bike storage, washing facilities, emergency repair kits and even packed lunches for the road.

Restaurants & Food at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa

The perfect spa break should always include decadent dining – and at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa, the food is every bit as indulgent as the pampering. Whether you’re fresh from the pool or you’ve slipped off the golf course, this stately spot has flavours as fine as the views.

Comfy and laid-back, the Courtyard Bar is a favourite haunt. It’s also popular with the resident peacocks, who occasionally wander past the patio like they own the place. It’s not uncommon to sip your hand-crafted cocktail with a feathered friend or two nearby.

At the Restaurant at Shrigley Hall, the chefs are known for putting a creative twist on classic British dishes, crafted with the finest of Cheshire ingredients. Afternoon tea is served with a flourish in the public rooms, where vintage portraits and plush seating make you feel like you’ve time-travelled into a Georgian parlour (only with better cake).

And then there’s the Silk Road dining space inside the Bazaar Spa, a serene spot with a menu that complements the spa’s exotic vibe. It’s one of the few places where you can enjoy a light lunch and glass of fizz in your robe, surrounded by stained glass.

What an amazing find! I was a bit sceptical with the price paid through SpaSeekers as I couldn’t believe what a good deal it was for the 2 night spa package. The treatments were booked in for a time that didn’t work for us and a quick call sorted it out no problem. The staff were great, the meals lovely, the spa and the treatments were amazing and the hotel itself and surrounding grounds were stunning. The outdoor heated pool was to die for! The drinks were expensive, but it balanced out with everything we got in the package. We’ll definitely be back and definitely use SpaSeekers for the next break away!

Myself and my partner came to Shrigley Hall yesterday to celebrate his 30th birthday and chose the Morning Reviver Experience. The leisure facilities are great, especially the outdoor heated pool that overlooks the stunning grounds. The treatments were great and the cafe we had our lunch in was a lovely relaxed environment. The lunch was one-course which we felt was enough for us with a small extra cake on the side. Staff were helpful and friendly. I attended here whilst pregnant which meant I couldn’t use all facilities available, however still was able to enjoy some of them and experience a pregnancy massage. Overall would definitely return here again in the future and recommend to anyone!

The view, outdoor pool, snuggly clean robes, flip flops, changing facilities and staff were all awesome. Such a gorgeous place to relax in the evening sun. A few things could have been better: cleanliness eg indoor pools, windows, cups in the grass and around the outdoor pool area, rubbish left in the changing rooms. There was very little on the food menu and no adaptations available for food intolerances/allergies. I assume people are driving here, more choice for drinks would be good eg a mock tail list. Overall, we had a lovely time and will be back!

The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the spa and the infinity pool pool outside are really very lovely. I went for the twilight experience on a Saturday and I think that’s where I made my mistake as I was the only solo guest and it was very busy with couples and groups having drinks, chats and a lovely time. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but I was aiming for tranquility and relaxation and felt like a loner who’d walked into a posh pool bar on holiday! Would absolutely love to return with a group for a celebration or a friend for a good time but today I left after an hour as I had a bit of a drive home and knew I’d booked the whole wrong vibe. The staff are absolutely lovely and the other guests enjoying themselves were doing so respectfully and had every right to be enjoying themselves. To conclude - go with your girls or your fella and book a room and have a few scoops and enjoy the holiday vibe, don’t go for twilight on a Saturday if you want peace and recharging.

This spa is set in a lovely building with stunning views of Manchester. We enjoyed our hot stone massage and found it very professional. There is a steam room, sauna, indoor and outdoor pool and Jacuzzi. It wasn't crowded at all when we visited on bank holiday Monday, however, there was a wedding the night before so it was busy then. There is a cafe on site with food and also a restaurant at the hotel, the food is ok.

The spa entrance was lovely, very calming and the changing rooms were lovely. Downsides were the steam room was out of order and the smaller over flow to the main pool indoors was dirty. Could do with another thermal room of some sort. Outdoor pool was delightful and would be perfect all year round. The treatment was really where it was at, we had a dual room with them conducted by Julie and Niamh. They both made us feel so comfortable and relaxed throughout and Julie especially ( she did my treatment) really listened to what I wanted/needed. Definitely a credit to their team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a swimming pool at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa?

There are two, so water babies will be in their element. The indoor pool is located in the beautifully converted chapel. It’s a tranquil space with a whirlpool tub, steam room and sauna, perfect for a slow, restorative dip.

The outdoor infinity pool, found in the Bazaar Spa Garden, is a real showstopper. Heated to a toasty 38°C and surrounded by loungers and fire pits, it’s ideal for soaking up countryside views while you unwind.

Does Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa serve afternoon tea?

Yes, Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa serves a traditional afternoon tea daily, and it’s every bit as delightful as you’d hope. Think dainty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam and a tempting trio of homemade cakes and pastries.

Served in the elegant public rooms or The Restaurant, it’s the perfect excuse to dress up, sip something sparkling and pretend you live in a Georgian manor – because when you’re here on a spa break, you basically do!

Is there accommodation at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa?

Yes, there’s plenty of room at the manor! Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa boasts a whopping 154 bedrooms, each with its own blend of heritage charm and laid-back luxury.

If you’re here on a spa escape, your home for the night will be one of the Standard Double or Twin Rooms. Cosy and classic, they’re just the ticket after a dip in the infinity pool. Expect soft linens, a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee-making facilities and designer toiletries.

Some rooms sneak in views of the golf course or surrounding hills, so you can sip your morning brew and admire the scenery. Feeling fancy? Deluxe Rooms and Suites boast extra space and plush seating areas.

Is Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is, but due to its listed building status, accessibility can vary across the estate. The hotel’s main entrance has four steps, but there’s a disabled entrance to the right. Inside, ramps and lifts have been added where possible, providing access to the restaurant and bar. A disabled toilet is available near the restaurant.

Two specially adapted bedrooms have widened doorways, lowered baths and handrails. These are accessed via lifts to the first and second floors. A few rooms also offer walk-in showers, but they’re located in areas that require steps, so it’s best to check availability before booking.

The spa can be reached via an external ramp, but internal access to the pools and whirlpool bath involves steps, which may limit use for some guests.

What time is check-in and check-out at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa?

Check-in at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa officially begins at 3pm PM, and check-out is by 11am. But if you’re booked on a spa break, there’s a little twist: you’ll need to check in to the spa first, enjoy your treatments and facilities, and then head to hotel reception afterwards to complete your room check-in.

If you’re arriving early, you’re welcome to leave your luggage with reception while you unwind. And if you’re planning a late arrival (after 7pm), it’s best to let the hotel know in advance so they can roll out the welcome mat accordingly.

What’s the history of Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa?

Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa has a backstory as grand as its architecture – and every corridor tells a story. Originally built in 1825 by William Turner, a mill owner and MP for Blackburn, the hall was designed as a country estate fit for high society. But things took a dramatic turn when Turner’s daughter, Ellen, was abducted at age 15 in one of the most notorious scandals of the era. She was whisked away to Gretna Green for a sham marriage that made national headlines.

After passing through generations of the Turner family, the estate was sold in 1929 to the Salesians of Don Bosco, who transformed it into a missionary college. They added a chapel in 1936 (now home to the splendid Bazaar Spa). At its peak, the college housed up to 200 students, many of whom went on to become priests and missionaries around the world.

Fast forward to 1989, and Shrigley Hall reopened as a hotel, spa and golf resort, carefully restored to preserve its original character. Today you’ll find a fascinating history trail around the estate, complete with walking maps and vintage photos. You’ll even find a timeline display tucked away near the main staircase – a must-see for history buffs.

Where is Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa located?

Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa is tucked away in the leafy village of Pott Shrigley, near Macclesfield, Cheshire – and it’s got serious country manor energy. Set within 262 acres of rolling parkland, this grand Georgian estate sits right on the edge of the Peak District National Park, so expect sweeping views, winding woodland walks and the occasional glimpse of the hotel’s mascots – the peacocks.

What is there to do near Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa?

Nearby, you’ve got Lyme Park, a glorious National Trust estate nestled right on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It’s best known for its stately mansion, sprawling 1,300-acre deer park and its starring role as Pemberley in the BBC’s Pride & Prejudice – yes, the one where Mr Darcy emerges from the lake.

Macclesfield is around 5.5 miles by road, which takes roughly 13 minutes by car. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even walk it in about an hour and a half, though you’ll definitely earn a spot of spa lounging by the end of it. Head here for boutique shopping, historic houses and cosy cafés.

History buffs can head to Little Moreton Hall, a moated Tudor manor, or explore the industrial heritage of Quarry Bank, a restored cotton mill with Europe’s most powerful water wheel. And if you fancy a bit more buzz, Manchester city centre is just a short drive away.

Is Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Craving an adults-only spa break? You’ll be pleased to hear the spa and pools at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa are strictly for grown-up splashing. Access is limited to guests aged 16 and over, even if accompanied by an adult. But away from the water, Shrigley Hall Hotel does roll out red carpet for families. And with spacious family rooms that sleep up to four, everyone gets their own pillow!

Set in 262 acres of countryside, there’s plenty of space for little legs to run wild. Older kids might enjoy a round of footgolf, or just take a wander through the woodland trails. There’s also a restaurant with a kids’ menu, so no one has to pretend to like olives.

Nearby, you’ve got Lyme Park for deer-spotting and epic hide-and-seek, Macclesfield for museums and even indoor play centres if the weather’s feeling dramatic.

Is Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

Got a pooch that loves countryside strolls and stately surroundings? Shrigley Hall is ready to pamper you both, with designated dog-friendly rooms that offer easy access to the estate’s 262 acres of parkland.

Dogs are welcome in specific ground-floor rooms, so be sure to contact the hotel before booking to secure one. There’s a £20 per night charge for up to two dogs in a standard room, and £50 per night if you’re staying in a family or upgraded room. While pups can’t join you in The Restaurant, Bazaar Spa or on the golf course, they’re welcome in the Courtyard Bar and patio. Dogs must be kept on a lead, be supervised at all times and aren’t allowed on any furniture.

Does Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa have a golf course?

It does, and it’s a beauty. Shrigley Hall has an 18-hole, par-71 championship course that winds through woodland, parkland and streams. Designed by the legendary Donald Steel, this course is as scenic as it is strategic, with views that might just distract you from your swing.

The signature 8th hole is a par-3 with water on three sides, so bring your A-game (and maybe a spare ball). There’s also a six-hole par-3 course and even footgolf if you fancy mixing things up.
