About
If your idea of heaven is a spa day wrapped in history as well as fluffy robes, Redworth Hall is ready to sweep you off your feet. Tucked away in the heart of County Durham, this stunning 17th-century Jacobean manor boasts grand architecture, ornate fireplaces and glittering chandeliers. But while it’s crammed with character, you’ll also find lashings of modern luxury and leisure, thanks to plush bedrooms, a stylish restaurant – and a spa that’s pure indulgence.
A trip to The Retreat will see you floating in the heated indoor pool, unwinding in the traditional sauna, basking in the steam room and bubbling in the Jacuzzi. Pad in your robe and slippers to one of six treatment rooms for an ESPA face or body ritual – or opt for a dual room for a decadent treat for two. The whisper-quiet Tranquility Room has luxurious thermal loungers for your obligatory post-pamper lie down. There’s even a hair and beauty salon to get you glammed up for cocktails at sunset.
But Redworth Hall isn’t just about pampering – it’s packed with ways to play! Hit the Technogym or challenge your partner to a game of mini golf or table tennis. Take a stroll through 26 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, or just curl up with a book in a cosy lounge. When hunger strikes, head to The 1744 Restaurant for classic British dishes or an elegant afternoon tea, before retiring to one of 143 rooms packed with contemporary furnishings and heritage touches.
Leaving all that’s on offer at Redworth Hall Hotel is a tough sell. But if you fancy venturing out, you’re perfectly placed to explore the best of County Durham. Wander the cobbled streets of Durham city and marvel at its UNESCO-listed cathedral. The nearby Metrocentre is one of Europe’s largest shopping malls, packed with high street favourites and designer bargains. But if fresh air and scenic views are more your style, head to Hamsterley Forest or the Durham Dales. They’re perfect for walking, cycling or simply soaking up the countryside.

KSpar was lovely, The lunch which wasn’t included also lovely. But unfortunately the evening meal was very disappointing we waited an hour for a bottle of wine also one of the meals was cold and not very good at all, coffee was cold. We where really rushed with our evening meal it was more like a canteen service, It actually spoilt the day, we would’ve preferred to eat in the spa restaurant much better. What’s the history of Redworth Hall Hotel?
Redworth Hall Hotel has a history as rich as its afternoon teas! Built in 1693 by George and Eleanor Crosier, this Jacobean manor started life as a grand family home and eventually passed into the hands of the Surtees family, whose colourful legacy includes scandalous marriages, disinheritance dramas and one rather unfortunate gentleman who reportedly froze to death after falling off his horse.
Over the centuries, Redworth Hall has been everything from a stately residence to a school for ‘naughty boys’ before becoming the elegant hotel and spa it is today. Guests still admire the grand Baronial Hall and spiral stone staircase, although these were only added in the 1890s.
Is Redworth Hall Hotel family-friendly?
Redworth Hall Hotel is well set up for families, with 13 spacious family rooms that let everyone stretch out and settle in. There are kids activity packs available on arrival and a children’s menu in the restaurant, so little ones can tuck into something tasty without fuss.
Although you have to be 18 to use the spa or get a treatment, kids can splash in the pool everyday from 8am to 10am and 3.30pm and 5.30pm. The mini golf course is perfect for a bit of friendly competition, and there’s table tennis and woodland walks for burning off energy. You can even take your little explorers to local attractions like Beamish Museum and Auckland Castle.
Is Redworth Hall Hotel accessible?

You’ll find cosy touches like a blanket or water bowl (subject to availability), and pets are welcome in the cocktail lounge, Kelvington Lounge and reception areas – just not in the 1744 Restaurant, Retreat Lounge, or gym. There’s even a dog-friendly menu and room service for your pampered pooch!
To keep things calm and comfy for everyone, pets should stay on leads in shared spaces, avoid furniture and never be left unattended unless safely crated. You’ll get a “Pet in Room” door hanger at check-in and can even buy a Woofbox, packed with Doghouse treats, a tennis ball, compostable poo bags and a tasty dinner.
Does Redworth Hall Hotel have a golf course?
Redworth Hall Hotel doesn’t have a full-size golf course, but it does have a charming mini golf course if you just fancied a light-hearted swing. For a more serious round, Woodham Golf & Country Club is a 10-minute drive from Redworth Hall. It has an 18-hole parkland course, and welcomes visitors with pay-and-play options.
