If you’re keen to explore beyond the grounds, County Durham offers plenty of active adventures. Hike the scenic trails of Hamsterley Forest, cycle through the Durham Dales, or take a riverside walk along the Wear in Durham city. You’ll also find some excellent paddleboarding spots if you fancy a splash of water-based cardio with your sightseeing.

For something more laid-back, The Retreat Lounge is your go-to. By day, it’s a spa sanctuary where you can enjoy nourishing lunches and refreshments without leaving the comfort of your robe. By night (and especially on Fridays and Saturdays) it transforms into a stylish cocktail bar. You may even be lucky enough to catch some live music while you’re there.

Yes there is. At 14 metres long, Redworth Hall’s heated indoor pool is the perfect place to practice your breaststroke – or just take a leisurely dip between treatments. Light and airy thanks to a conservatory style glass roof and floor-to-celing windows, it’s flanked with comfy loungers to curl up on after your swim. 

There’s nothing nicer than escaping to a country manor for the night – and Redworth Hall makes it effortlessly elegant. With 143 bedrooms spread across the historic main hall and the contemporary wing, there’s a space to suit every kind of stay. Some rooms even offer views across the 26-acre estate, so you can wake up to birdsong and greenery.

Many of the rooms have recently been refurbished, blending heritage charm with fresh, modern touches. But for an extra layer of indulgence, opt for a Spa Room. These come with luxurious spa bathrooms and upgraded toiletries. Some even Jacuzzi baths, perfect for soaking the day away. 

Check-in at Redworth Hall Hotel is from 3pm, and check-out is by 11am. If you're hoping to linger a little longer or arrive early, they do offer early check-in and late check-out options. Just keep in mind these are subject to availability and may come with an extra charge.

Here for a spa day? Morning packages usually begin at 9am, full-day experiences kick off around 10.30am, and afternoon sessions tend to start at 1pm. Timings can vary, though, so be sure to check your booking confirmation for the most up-to-date details.

Redworth Hall Hotel is tucked away in the peaceful village of Redworth, right in the heart of County Durham. It’s just a five-minute drive from Newton Aycliffe, and about eight miles from Darlington, making it easy to reach but delightfully secluded. 

The hotel sits within 26 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens, so expect plenty of leafy strolls. But despite its tranquil setting, you’re perfectly placed to explore the region. Durham City is around 20 miles away, and the A1(M) is close by for easy access.

Redworth Hall Hotel has a history as rich as its afternoon teas! Built in 1693 by George and Eleanor Crosier, this Jacobean manor started life as a grand family home and eventually passed into the hands of the Surtees family, whose colourful legacy includes scandalous marriages, disinheritance dramas and one rather unfortunate gentleman who reportedly froze to death after falling off his horse.

Over the centuries, Redworth Hall has been everything from a stately residence to a school for ‘naughty boys’ before becoming the elegant hotel and spa it is today. Guests still admire the grand Baronial Hall and spiral stone staircase, although these were only added in the 1890s.

Redworth Hall Hotel is well set up for families, with 13 spacious family rooms that let everyone stretch out and settle in. There are kids activity packs available on arrival and a children’s menu in the restaurant, so little ones can tuck into something tasty without fuss.

Although you have to be 18 to use the spa or get a treatment, kids can splash in the pool everyday from 8am to 10am and 3.30pm and 5.30pm. The mini golf course is perfect for a bit of friendly competition, and there’s table tennis and woodland walks for burning off energy. You can even take your little explorers to local attractions like Beamish Museum and Auckland Castle.

Yes it is. The hotel offers two accessible bedrooms, and the spa also has wheelchair access. If you have specific needs, it’s best to contact the hotel in advance so they can make your stay as smooth as possible.

Good news for dog-lovers! Redworth Hall is a pet-friendly hotel. Up to two dogs or cats are allowed per room, with a £25 per pet, per night charge. You’ll find cosy touches like a blanket or water bowl (subject to availability), and pets are welcome in the cocktail lounge, Kelvington Lounge and reception areas – just not in the 1744 Restaurant, Retreat Lounge, or gym. There’s even a dog-friendly menu and room service for your pampered pooch!

To keep things calm and comfy for everyone, pets should stay on leads in shared spaces, avoid furniture and never be left unattended unless safely crated. You’ll get a “Pet in Room” door hanger at check-in and can even buy a Woofbox, packed with Doghouse treats, a tennis ball, compostable poo bags and a tasty dinner.

Redworth Hall Hotel doesn’t have a full-size golf course, but it does have a charming mini golf course if you just fancied a light-hearted swing. For a more serious round, Woodham Golf & Country Club is a 10-minute drive from Redworth Hall. It has an 18-hole parkland course, and welcomes visitors with pay-and-play options.
