About

The Gailes Hotel & Spa was crowned Scotland’s Best Spa Hotel in 2026, and it’s easy to see why. Set on the Ayrshire coast, just 40 minutes from Glasgow, this chic, boutique hotel is home to Si! Spa, where saying yes to luxury may turn out to be the best idea you’ve ever had. Indoors there’s a relaxation lounge lit like a work of art, plus a vitality pool, sauna, aromatherapy steam room and rainforest shower. Or take things al fresco on the outdoor spa deck, where a sheltered hydro pool and glowing fire pit look out over the hotel’s private gardens. Add a glass of fizz from the champagne bar and you’ve got one of Scotland’s best spa experiences.

Si! Spa only opened its doors in 2021, but it’s already claimed Scotland’s top spa title three times. Housed in its own contemporary building, it pairs stunning mood lighting with a playful seaside streak, from the boat resting on driftwood as you enter to the porthole-style windows glowing above the large vitality pool. Treatments use Espa and Ishga, and after being pleasantly pummelled you can drift off in a cosy relaxation room where Buddha statues sit alongside a screen of gently rolling waves. Then it’s out into the skylit spa lounge, where sofas, armchairs and floor-to-ceiling windows make it all too easy to linger in your robe.

Staying overnight? Good plan. The hotel itself is a stylish four-star with a relaxed, coastal feel. Its contemporary rooms, many freshly refurbished with coastal-inspired artwork and sleek walk-in showers, look out over landscaped gardens complete with a pond, fountain and pavilion. Come dinner, Coast Restaurant & Bar serves up local flavours beneath naval maps and fishing rope, with cocktails at the bar or out on the terrace when the sun shines.

Golfers are spoilt for choice, with championship links right on the doorstep and Royal Troon, Turnberry and Prestwick, the birthplace of The Open, all close by. Back at the hotel, you can perfect your swing on the floodlit Toptracer driving range, polish your short game on the putting and chipping green, or book a lesson with the resident PGA pros. Not a golfer? Hire a bike and explore the coastal paths straight from the hotel.

Beyond the hotel, the Ayrshire coast is yours to explore. Sandy beaches are just a few minutes away, perfect for a bracing stroll or a sunset looking out across the Firth of Clyde to Arran. The seaside town of Troon makes a lovely spot for an afternoon wander. Irvine’s harbourside is home to the Scottish Maritime Museum, and history lovers can climb up to medieval Dundonald Castle or spend a day at clifftop Culzean Castle. This is Burns country too, with the poet’s birthplace in Alloway within easy reach. Fancy an island adventure? Hop on the ferry to Arran for its distillery, castles and scenic walks, or head into Glasgow for big-city shopping.

The Spa & Wellness at The Gailes Hotel and Spa

Fancy a little Scottish adventure through heat and water? At Si! Spa, the rainforest shower shifts from warm tropical rain to an invigorating Arctic mist, the traditional wood-lined sauna cranks up the heat, and the aromatherapy steam room works its magic with essential oils.

Bubbling jets in the vitality pool target all the classic stress spots while outside, the hydro pool is sheltered from the coastal breeze, so a soak under open skies works whatever the Scottish weather throws at you. As dusk falls, the outdoor fire pit really comes into its own, glowing in its heated gazebo as you warm your toes after one last dip.

Then there’s the rasul, a gloriously messy ritual for one or two. Buff away dull skin with an Ishga salt and oil scrub, smooth on a soothing clay and let the tropical steam do its thing, before a warm shower reveals seriously soft skin. If you’d rather be pampered, the menu runs to more than 50 treatments, from Ishga seaweed rituals to results-driven Espa facials. Couples can book the double treatment room, and the nail room has stations for two, so friends can leave with matching manicures.

The Gym & Fitness at The Gailes Hotel and Spa

Gailes Golf:Leisure is home to a well-equipped gym and studio classes. Both are mainly for members, but there are plenty of other ways to get moving during your stay. Golfers can head to Ayrshire’s only Toptracer driving range, with 30 floodlit bays (including two heated VIP bays for chilly evenings) and technology that tracks every shot, just like on the pro tours. There’s no need to book, and you can even hire clubs.

For gentler exercise, the beach is just minutes away, with sweeping sands and dunes for a bracing stroll in the sea air. Hire a bike from the hotel to explore the cycle routes and coastal paths nearby, or follow a stretch of the Ayrshire Coastal Path as it traces the shoreline.

Up for something more adventurous? Hop on the ferry to the Isle of Arran and tackle Goatfell, the island’s highest peak, for spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde. Back on the mainland, the woodland trails and waterfalls of Kelburn Estate make a rewarding day out, with a castle painted in vivid colours by Brazilian street artists.

Restaurants & Food at The Gailes Hotel and Spa

Get your first taste of The Gailes in the Si! Spa Lounge, where robes are very much welcome. It’s the setting for many of the packages’ poke bowls and afternoon teas, and it also serves breakfast, light bites and a signature sharing board through the day. At one end, the Champagne and cocktail bar is ready to pour a glass of fizz whenever the mood strikes.

Staying overnight? Dinner is served in Coast Restaurant & Bar, a relaxed, nautical-themed space with naval maps and fishing rope overhead and views across the gardens. The menu celebrates local flavours, from Scottish seafood to hearty grills, and the desserts are worth saving room for, especially anything with Arran ice cream.

For something more casual, GG’s Coffee Shop & Sports Lounge does great coffee and cake by day. Later on, it turns into a laid-back spot to catch the match, with Chesterfield sofas and a pool table for a friendly game.

The beach is just a few minutes away, perfect for a sunset stroll.

What’s the story behind Si! Spa at The Gailes?

The Gailes is a true family affair. Malcolm and Karen Simpson founded SimpsInns in 1996 with a single inn in Troon, before building The Gailes from scratch on a greenfield site in their home town of Irvine. Today their sons Jack and Lee help run the business, and The Gailes is the flagship of the group. Si! Spa opened in 2021. Its name is Spanish for “yes”, which is exactly what you’ll want to say when someone suggests a spa day here!

Is Si! Spa at The Gailes really award-winning?

It really is. Si! Spa has taken Scotland’s top spa title at the Scottish Prestige Hotel Awards three times, most recently as Scotland’s Best Spa Hotel in 2026. It’s also been named Boutique Spa Hotel of the Year by beauty industry bodies BABTAC and CIBTAC. The 2026 win even earned a congratulatory motion in the Scottish Parliament, which is quite the accolade for a spa that only opened in 2021.

Yes, and spa break guests are in for a treat, as packages include a stay in one of the hotel’s newly refurbished Superior rooms. Designed with contemporary elegance and refined finishes, they come with a king-size or twin beds, a brand-new TV, tea and coffee facilities and complimentary WiFi. The upgraded bathrooms feature sleek walk-in showers and modern fittings, and many rooms look out over the hotel’s landscaped gardens. It’s the perfect spot to sink into after a day of pampering.

It does. The spa holds Safe Hands for Cancer accreditation, and its therapists are trained to treat guests living with or recovering from cancer, so you can relax knowing you’re in caring, capable hands.

Is Si! Spa at The Gailes dog-friendly?

While your four-legged friend can’t join you in the spa, the hotel is very dog-friendly. Dedicated dog-friendly rooms come with handy extras like doggy doors, mucky-paws towel stations and water bowls, and dogs even get their own dining options. There’s a supplement of £15 per dog, per night, and you’ll need to call the hotel in advance to book. They’re welcome in GG’s Sports Lounge and on its terrace, plus the nearby coastal paths make for brilliant walkies!
