About

Want to work on your wellness in lakeside luxury? Set within 70 acres of parkland overlooking the shimmering Rutland Water, Rutland Hall Hotel offers a heavenly escape in the heart of England’s smallest county. Once a stately country estate, it’s now a haven of contemporary comfort, complete with panoramic lake views and lavish leisure. But the star of the show is Four Roots Wellbeing – a one-of-a-kind spa experience designed in partnership with award-winning brand Tribe517.

More than pampering, spa days at Four Roots Wellbeing let you journey through the four pillars of holistic health: spiritual, physical, emotional and social. Think bubbly bathing rituals, tailored treatments, guided meditation and a nourishing (yet decadent) meal to round things off. And with a Himalayan salt ‘Clarity’ room designed to restore your emotional harmony, you’ll leave with your chakras well and truly balanced!

If you’re tempted to linger, Rutland Hall makes it easy to turn your wellness journey into a lakeside spa staycation. The 66 rooms in the 19th century stately home are stylish and serene, many with sweeping views of Rutland Water. Guests can take a dip in the 22-metre pool, then unwind in the sauna and steam room. Hit the gym, or play crazy golf, badminton or squash. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, Blossoms Restaurant is a feast for the senses, with a showstopping pink blossom tree that climbs over the bar like something out of a fairytale.

With so much on offer, chances are you won’t want to leave. But step outside and the landscape invites you to explore. Grab your wellies and head for a stile at the edge of the grounds for direct access to Rutland Water, with its walking trails, paddleboarding and birdwatching. Nearby, the market towns of Oakham and Stamford are lined with independent boutiques and antique shops – perfect for those who believe retail therapy is a part of wellbeing, too!

The Spa & Wellness at Rutland Hall Hotel

Think you’ve seen one spa, you’ve seen them all? You clearly haven’t gone on a journey at Four Roots Wellbeing. Rooted in holistic philosophy and drawing on four dimensions of wellness (spiritual, physical, emotional and social) your spa experience will be curated with care – and personalised just for you.

With a fluffy robe and slippers waiting for you in your own locker, a warm herbal infusion or fresh smoothie sets the tone for what’s to come. Your therapist begins with a thoughtful consultation, ensuring every touch is tailored to your needs.

Then it’s time to embark on your journey with the Spiritual Root: a bathing ritual that’s more than just a soak. Choose from skin-softening milk, antioxidant tea or soothing magnesium, then enjoy a quiet ceremony of cleansing designed to ease you into the rhythm of restoration.

From there, the Physical Root takes centre stage with a 60-minute massage or facial treatment. Therapies are crafted in partnership with Tribe517, a brand known for its intuitive treatments that honour both body and soul.

Then comes the Emotional Root, where you’re guided into stillness through meditation or time in the Clarity Room. With its Himalayan salt wall and soft, ambient light, it’s a space that invites reflection, helping you reconnect with your inner self.

Finally, the Social Root brings warmth and comfort through delicious food. Whether you choose a nourishing two-course lunch or a decadent afternoon tea, it’s a moment to savour – and to share.

The Gym & Fitness at Rutland Hall Hotel

Gym or swim? Treadmill or trails? Indoors, or out in the fresh Rutland air? These are the fitness decisions you’ll be making at Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa, where physical health and fun go hand in hand. This lakeside retreat is packed with ways to get your pulse racing – or gently elevated, if that’s more your style.

Inside, the air-conditioned gym is kitted out with 28 pieces of Technogym equipment, from cardio machines and resistance gear to free weights. A timetable of fitness classes (chargeable) caters to all levels, and once you’ve finished your reps, the sauna and steam room are ready to help you recover. Prefer a gentler pace? The 22-metre indoor pool in the leisure club is perfect for a gentle breaststroke.

But beyond the gym, the fitness opportunities at Rutland Hall are endless. Challenge your spa buddy to a round of crazy golf, squash or badminton, Cycle the scenic paths around Rutland Water, or lace up your walking shoes, clamber over the stile at the edge of the grounds and explore the lakeside trails on foot. The family trail starts at eight miles, with the full lakeside circuit clocking up 23 miles!

Restaurants & Food at Rutland Hall Hotel

Peckish after your pampering? You’re in luck! Most of the Four Roots Wellbeing spa packages on offer include your choice of lunch or afternoon tea to help you refuel after your wellness experience.

You’ll dine at Blossoms Restaurant, a dreamy space with a striking pink blossom tree that climbs over the bar. What’s on the lunch menu changes with the season, but all is fresh, delicious and designed to support your wellbeing. Opted for an indulgent afternoon tea instead? You’ll be served beautifully presented finger sarnies, delicate pastries and freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and jam.

Before or after your meal, head to Blossoms Bar for your post-spa cocktail or mocktail. The Lounge offers cosy indoor seating with lakeside views, while the Terrace is a sun-drenched spot for sipping rosé on warmer days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa serve afternoon tea?

Yes it does, and many of the spa days and stays let you include it as part of your treat. Served in the elegant Blossoms Restaurant, expect a parade of finger sandwiches with fillings like Scottish smoked salmon and honey-glazed ham, savoury pastries, and freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream. Then come the mini sweet treats – dark chocolate delice, lemon meringue tart and Victoria sponge that look too good to eat (almost).

Feeling fancy? You can upgrade to Sparkling Afternoon Tea or go full glam with Champagne Afternoon Tea. Because why not sip your fizz while gazing out over Rutland Water?

Is there a swimming pool at Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa?

There is, so don’t forget your goggles. The 22-metre indoor pool lives in Rutland Hall’s leisure club, which is a separate building from the spa. The timetable includes a mix of family swims and grown-up-only slots, so you can pick something serene or seriously splashy!

Towels are provided poolside, and the pool has been thoughtfully filled to a depth of 1.2m, making it safer and more energy-efficient. There’s also a sauna and steam room, and a gym with 28 shiny new machines if you fancy a workout before your wind-down.

Is there accommodation at Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa?

Fancy turning your spa day into a proper spa getaway? Then let the pampering continue by booking an overnight retreat. You’ll have the choice of a Cosy Double or a Standard Double room, both designed for comfort, calm and a good night’s sleep.

Cosy Doubles are snug and stylish, averaging 15 sqm, with everything you need for a restful stay. There’s a Smart TV, tea and coffee facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a comfy bed to sink into.

Standard Doubles offer a little more breathing room at 19 sqm, with the same thoughtful amenities and either a garden or wall-facing view.

Both room options are in the 19th century country house itself, close to the spa and leisure club. Neither room type includes a lake view. But with 70 acres of parkland and Rutland Water just outside, who needs one?

What time is check-in and check-out at Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa?

Check-in for hotel guests starts at 3pm, and check-out is by 11am – plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. If you’re visiting for a spa journey at Four Roots Wellbeing, arrival times may differ depending on your package. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact schedule, so you can arrive relaxed and ready to unwind.

It’s nestled in 70 acres of parkland, just outside Oakham in Rutland, England’s smallest county. But the biggest draw? The hotel’s proximity to Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe and a haven for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and water sports enthusiasts.

The hotel’s elevated position on Rutland Water’s north shore gives it fabulous views across the reservoir and surrounding countryside. But once you’ve had your fill of lakeside lounging, you can explore charming market towns like Stamford and Uppingham.

Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa sits on a beautifully expansive estate, but there’s a complimentary buggy service that can whisk you between the restaurant, spa and leisure facilities.

The Four Roots Wellbeing experience is also wheelchair accessible. However the spiritual root bathing ritual does involve stepping into a bath, which may require assistance depending on your mobility.

Is Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

For an additional fee of £25 per dog, per night, your pup can snuggle next to you in their own bed, with bowls and a toy provided.
