About
If your idea of bliss is a cosy Cotswold spa day on the banks of a river, Old Swan & Minster Mill is the retreat you’ve been dreaming of. Set in the village of Minster Lovell, this gorgeous collection of honey‑hued buildings is home to The Garden Spa – an intimate sanctuary where the only sounds you’ll hear are birdsong and the gentle rush of the River Windrush just steps away.
Set across 65 acres of woodland, wildflower meadows and manicured gardens, the estate blends rustic romance with modern comfort like nowhere else. Days unfold gently here, with riverside walks, croquet (or yoga!) on the lawn, chef-prepared picnic hampers in the meadow, or drinks on the terrace with the river tumbling by.
It’s all so heavenly, we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to check in. And because this decadent duo is made up of a 15th‑century inn and a converted millhouse hotel with contemporary extensions, it offers two dreamy ways to stay. Choose the centuries‑old Old Swan with its low beams, roaring fires and cosy corners, or opt for the Scandi‑style rooms at Minster Mill. When hunger calls, dine on local flavours and exquisite dishes from the talented head chef at Wildling, or tuck into hearty classics at the Old Swan next door – just don’t miss the traditional pub games.
But when it’s time to swap shuffleboard for serenity, head straight to The Garden Spa. Bask in the 8m plunge pool with its hydro massage jets, or go on a thermal journey through the rock sauna, aroma steam room, ice fountain and rainforest showers. Head out to the spa garden and sit by the fire pit, or choose one of ESPA’s nature‑powered treatments to restore your glow. Couples and friends can unwind together in the dual suite or reconnect amid the mud and steam of the rasul.
Step outside and one of England’s prettiest corners is waiting to be explored. Wander to Minster Lovell Hall, the atmospheric 15th‑century ruins just a short stroll away. Or head to Swinbrook, once home to the infamous Mitford sisters. A little further afield, Burford, Witney and the Windrush Valley offer boutique shops, tearooms and Insta‑worthy views. And if you’re in the mood for a grand day out, Blenheim Palace and the dreaming spires of Oxford are both within easy reach.

Loved the lunch and surroundings. Martha’s treatment was outstanding. The spa itself was lovely although pool and Jacuzzi a little too cool. Changing area was tiny.

Loved it all apart from: Changing area way too small for purpose. Hand towels not replenished in the one loo. Not the easiest locker locking system to master. The fine dining lunch would not be to everyone's taste and indeed 2 of the 4 of us did not enjoy the lunch experience. Drinks very expensive.

The spa at Minster Mill is only 2 years old and still looks stunning. Staff were very friendly and the treatments were fantastic, especially the invigorating foot massage. We booked a Saturday afternoon spa session which included afternoon tea and that was served in the bar and delicious.

Whilst the spa and changing area is bijou it has all the facilities you need and we spent a relaxing hour and a half in there before heading for lunch. The lunch in the restaurant was lovely with attentive and efficient staff and a beautiful dining room. My aromatherapy massage by Lucy was excellent and my sister in law thought the same of her pedicure. Enjoyed the whole experience.

We booked on a spa package that included 2x 30 minutes treatment, 2 hours use of the spa and lunch. The spa itself is lovely - all facilities were clean and modern. Slightly disappointed that the steam room wasn’t working during our visit and there isn’t a ‘hot tub’ it is Jets in the pool. However, it is very small, there is just one shower and limited changing space. Treatments were good, and for the price you pay it’s worth it. The lunch was great, proper pub food, although the spa package menu is quite limited. As two fussy eaters we ordered mains off the ‘main lunch menu’ and paid full price for this, but the quality was great. If I went again I would go for afternoon tea!

The Old Swan & Minster Mill is surrounded by gorgeous countryside but it was really easy to find. I spent a day there recently and I think my next visit will include an overnight stay because I’d love to spend more time there. I had a couple of treatments in the spa and they were fab, especially because I’d been feeling pretty stressed out beforehand. By the time I came home I was as chilled out as I could be. The lunch in the restaurant was fantastic and the atmosphere of the whole place was perfect for making you relax. I’m really looking forward to going back again, perhaps with a couple of girlfriends for a weekend of pampering. Can’t wait!

What’s the history of Old Swan & Minster Mill?
At the heart of the Old Minster village and with a history going back almost 600 years, the Old Swan & Minster Mill couldn't be more quintessentially English. The Old Swan itself dates to the 15th century, originally serving as a traditional Cotswold inn, while Minster Mill began life as a working mill on the banks of the River Windrush.
Over the centuries, both buildings have been lovingly restored, blending their original honey‑stone walls, low beams and roaring fires, with all the comforts of a modern country retreat.
Where is Old Swan & Minster Mill located?
Old Swan & Minster Mill is a cluster of honey-stone buildings in the pretty Cotswolds village of Minster Lovell, which is between Witney and Burford. On the banks of the River Windrush and surrounded by 65 acres of gardens, meadows and woodland, it’s like something out of a postcard!
What is there to do near Old Swan & Minster Mill?

A little further afield, you’ll find Swinbrook, once home to the infamous Mitford sisters. If you’re in the mood for a day trip, Oxford is just 15 miles away for museums, punting and historic colleges, while the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Blenheim Palace is only 11 miles from the hotel.
Who owns Old Swan & Minster Mill?

While the pool and thermal facilities at The Garden Spa are only for those aged 16 or over, children are welcome in the hotel itself. Garden Rooms interconnect with each other, so two adults and up to three children can stay together. If you’re coming with smaller children, suites have sofabeds while Z beds can be put up in larger rooms.
There’s plenty to keep the youngest family members occupied, all year round! In spring and summer you’ll find nature-inspired games and story trails for amongst the 65 acres of gardens, wildflower meadows and peaceful woodland. This beautiful country retreat also offers picnic hampers to be enjoyed by the river (or in your room if the weather’s not playing ball), marshmallows to toast on the campfire and garden games.

Is Old Swan & Minster Mill accessible?
The hotel offers a number of accessibility features, but because the property includes historic buildings, some areas are easier to access than others.
At Minster Mill, several bedrooms are located on the ground floor and have walk-in showers, but access to some of these rooms do include a small number of steps. The Old Swan is a 15th‑century inn, so some spaces have narrow corridors, uneven floors and steps due to the building’s age.
The Garden Spa at Minster Mill is also accessible, with level access to the treatment rooms and changing facilities. Staff are on hand to assist where needed.
Is Old Swan & Minster Mill pet-friendly?
Looking for the paw-fect dog-friendly escape? Waggy tails are welcome at Old Swan & Minster Mill. And, with 65 acres of gardens to sniff around, plus the whole of the picturesque Windrush Valley to explore, they’ll have a great time while they’re here.
Well-behaved boys and girls can check-in to one of the hotel’s 32 dog-friendly rooms, many of which offer easy access to the riverbank and picturesque garden walks. It costs £25 per dog, per night, and for that they’ll get their own dog bed, water bowl and treat.
Does Old Swan & Minster Mill have a golf course?
Old Swan & Minster Mill doesn’t have its own golf course, but you won’t have to travel far to tee off. Burford Golf Club is just a short drive away and is one of the most welcoming clubs in the Cotswolds. Visitors are welcome on a pay‑and‑play basis, subject to availability.
