With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, the glorious Macdonald Houstoun House is something rather special. Close to the iconic city of Edinburgh, it’s located in a peaceful spot amid 22 acres of picturesque woodland. When your mind and body are in the mood to get away from it all, this heavenly retreat fits the bill perfectly.
Superb retail therapy is to be found in Edinburgh’s famous streets, and of course there’s a breath-taking castle at the top of the Royal Mile that’s just waiting to be explored. You can spend some quality time at Edinburgh Zoo, gaze at the exhibits in the National Museum of Scotland and head to the top of Arthur’s Seat for some spectacular views of this wondrous city.
Getting away from it all is easy here, because the magnificent Houstoun House offers 73 gorgeous bedrooms. The three treatment rooms in the spa have all the tranquillity you’ll ever need, and there’s an excellent gym as well. Later, the elegant Jeremy Wares Restaurant will be waiting to wow you.

Very nice and relaxing as always. Steam room and sauna very good. Treatments were wonderful unfortunately my daughters was cut short due to the technician being unwell but she kindly offered another time or day to suit her. Lunch was wonderful.

The spa is in a separate building to the hotel which made it feel more calm. The staff were all friendly and professional. I really enjoyed my massage and facial. The magazines provided around the pool were an unexpected treat. I had a delicious two course lunch, in the main dining room, which was delicious.

We had a lovely overnight stay dinner bed and breakfast. The hotel was historic and comfortable the spa treatments were excellent. The pool/changing rooms are a bit tired but every thing works and it was very clean.
