About

If Herefordshire is a treasure trove of rich history and natural beauty, then Holme Lacy House is the jewel in its crown. This hidden gem is one of Warners’ flagship properties, a magnificent Grade I-listed mansion set in 20 acres of immaculate gardens with sweeping views across the Wye Valley. A haven of leisure and relaxation, it’s the sparkling spa retreat your soul has been craving.

Step inside and step back in time, thanks to ornate ceilings, a majestic sweeping staircase and a stately drawing room. Much of the intricate wood panelling was created by Grinling Gibbons, one of the great carvers of the 1700s, and also by Italian craftsmen who then went to work on the Titanic. Or head outdoors to picnic by the lake, stroll around the formal Italian gardens, or discover the hidden walled garden.

Ancient trees and sun-drenched lakes sit on the edge of shady woodlands, but Holme Lacy House offers much more than visual splendour. Your time in this adults-only playground can be as adventurous or laid-back as you choose.

Check in then chill out, with a peaceful dip in the spa’s tranquil indoor pool or a saunter round its thermal suite. Prefer to feel the burn? Fun fitness classes are on offer, along with croquet and pitch and putt.

For those who wish to venture further afield, the cathedral city of Hereford beckons. Immerse yourself in history at the Museum or shop til you drop amid the quaint shops and lovely marketplace. Holme Lacy House is situated almost directly in the centre of the famous Herefordshire Cider Route, so there are plenty of cider mills, distilleries and museums close by. Prefer a good book to a pint of the cold stuff? The annual Hay literary festival takes place just down the road.

With 181 cosy rooms, along with scrumptious spaces to eat, drink and be merry, Holme Lacy House is the full pampering package. So put your robe on, your feet up and your worries down at this splendid country retreat, famous for elegance, history and relaxation all rolled into one.

You can sweat it out on the resistance and cardiovascular machines, or get creative with free weights and create your own workout routines. And no matter how hard you work out, the sauna and steam room will be ready and waiting to pamper you afterwards.

But if fitness classes are more your bag, you’ll be in heaven. Hit the pool for aqua aerobics, or stay dry with yoga, and pilates. Try your hand at pitch and putt and croquet, or let an expert gardener lead you on a stroll to uncover the secrets of the heritage grounds.

I booked this as a lovely start to my friend’s birthday, which was ideal. Our facials were so relaxing and rejuvenating from the welcoming and professional spa team. They listened to our requests and accommodated where possible. The Holme Lacy House team looked after us very well, in the spa, pool and in the restaurant afterwards for a delicious afternoon tea with beautiful views of the garden.

Excellent treatments... ok leisure facilities

My partner and I chose to book the Lovers Package while on a short break in Herefordshire. The pool and Jacuzzi in the leisure areas were cold in my opinion so I could only sit in them for short periods and being in our early 30's, we were acutely aware that other clientele were of an slightly older generation...! The lunch included was ok. The best part thankfully were the treatments. Included in this were massages and facials each with a pedicure for me and a head massage for my partner. I would happily say the massage was the best I've ever had and the facial was also lovely. The therapists were friendly and professional with comfortable, clean spa rooms. I think the price was very reasonable for the treatments but I didn't rate the leisure facilities highly. The grounds are beautiful so I would highly recommend a walk around if the weather allows!
