Gomersal Park Hotel and Spa is tucked away in the leafy heart of West Yorkshire. Set in its own parkland on Moor Lane, Gomersal, this retreat feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle. But because it’s just five minutes from Junctions 26 and 27 of the M62, it’s perfectly placed for quick getaways from Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax or Wakefield.

But you may not even have to hop in the car to get your sightseeing fix. Nestled in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire, the village is surrounded by rolling hills and stone-built houses, with a rich past that includes textile mills, Brontë connections, and even a ghost or two. Charlotte Brontë’s friend Mary Taylor lived here, and the Red House Museum (once her home) inspired the fictional “Briarmains” in Shirley.

Great news for those who are trying to escape the kids! The heat and hydro spa facilities at Gomersal Park are blissfully adults-only. However children who are guests at the hotel can have a quick splash in the pool between 8am and 10am and 5.30pm and 7pm.

The hotel’s stylish restaurant serves pizzas, pastas, and burgers, so picky eaters won’t go hungry for long. And both Standard and Executive Family Rooms boast flat-screen TVs with a built-in DVD player – so Peppa Pig marathons are fully supported! 

The grounds are great for a wander, but just a five-minute walk takes you to Oakwell Hall & Gardens, a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house with acres of gardens, play areas and a resident ghost. Or hop in the car and head to Tropical World in Leeds, home to exotic animals like monkeys, parrots, butterflies and turtles.

It is. There’s a ramp leading to the main reception, and two disabled parking bays right out front. The hotel has one accessible double and one accessible twin, both reachable by lift. The bar and restaurant are fully accessible, with a lift to the main dining area. However, while the spa can be reached via an external ramp, the internal facilities do involve a few steps to navigate.

Despite its sprawling grounds and tranquil vibes, Gomersal Park Hotel & Spa is not pet-friendly. That means your pooch will have to sit this one out, sadly.

Planning to swap your robe for a nine iron? You’ll need to look elsewhere for your fairway fix. Gomersal Park Hotel and Spa may offer plenty of green space, but it doesn’t have its own golf course. Luckily, Willow Valley Golf is just a short hop in the car, and it welcomes visitors to pay and play.
