About

A spa break in a mansion that looks like it’s been plucked from the pages of a children’s storybook? Live out all your prince and princess fantasies at the magnificent Crewe Hall. Originally built in the 17th century, this wow-factor Grade I stately pile sprawls across eight acres of strollable Cheshire countryside. From the moment you sweep up the crunchy gravel driveway, you’ll feel like you’re stepping into a fairytale.

Drink in the opulent interiors of the Old Hall (think exquisite marble fireplaces and lavish stained glass windows) and gaze out on manicured gardens over a refined afternoon tea amid the intricate carved oak panels of the lounge. Not much has changed since the days when Crewe Hall played host to royalty - in this part of the hotel, at least.

But while the Jacobean masterpiece may be a true historical gem, there’s no skimping on 21st century comfort here. A long, glass walkway takes you to the modern West Wing extension, home to the plush Health Club and the stylish Brasserie Bar & Restaurant. Work out in the gym, kick back with an expert treatment in the spa, or plunge into serenity at the heated indoor pool.

In the unlikely event that you run out of things to do, Crewe is home to a wide selection of stores that provide the finest retail therapy, and the town’s impressive Heritage Centre should be on every must-see list. To the east, you’ll love scenic strolls amid the celebrated Peak District National Park, while the Roman history of Chester is to the west. And if you fancy a night among the bright lights, both Manchester and Liverpool are within easy reach.

Overnight getaways at Crewe Hall are always a treat thanks to 117 delicious bedrooms waiting to soothe you. There are 91 contemporary Classic rooms in the West Wing extension, or take a step back in time in one of the 26 feature rooms in the original building. Bursting with period charm, some of these retain their antique four-poster beds (updated with the softest of linens, of course) to ensure even finicky princes and princesses get some restful winks.

The staff were great, all friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed our treatments. The pool and changing area was clean and well maintained. However- there were nowhere near enough space, loungers around the pool were token. The Jacuzzi only had space for 3 at a push! The after treatment was far too small, not enough space to sit down and it felt crowded. It was a nice day - but nothing special.

This was my first time visiting a spa and I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. My partner and I had different sessions booked but both found the staff and treatments exceptional and the setting was great. After our treatments we use the pool, steam room and the experience shower. We couldn’t fault anything about the experience, surroundings or the staff. Everyone we spoke to were lovely and welcoming.

The location is beautiful and the hall is steeped with history. The spa is located in the modern part of the hotel which is lovely. The treatment was nice, the pool area was ok struggled to get a lounger or chair as it was very busy and the Jacuzzi was very small. Staff were friendly especially in the restaurant where we had our lunch. Good value for money.

I had an 1 day spa break at the Crewe Hall, I had a lovely time with my husband, the bedroom was clean and bed was very comfortable, there is not too many spaces to visit on the spa, but we had a nice treatment and enjoy our time in the little Jacuzzi and afterwards we went to our bedroom. The dinner in the Brasserie was really nice, but maybe going out near by will be a bit cheaper, the breakfast is really well served and tasty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa serve afternoon tea?

A sumptuous afternoon tea is the ultimate in traditional treats, but at Crewe Hall you’ll be following in the footsteps of royalty as you sip, scoff and socialise. Served in the refined ambience of the Sheridan Lounge in the Old Hall, this was once Lord Crewe’s dining room where he entertained King George V and Queen Mary during their visit in 1913, amongst other notable guests.

Afternoon tea is served throughout the week from 12pm to 4.45pm. Choose from traditional afternoon tea with all the trimmings, or add the sparkle with a Hendricks gin & tonic tea, a Prosecco tea or a Moet Champagne tea if you’re feeling really decadent.

Is there a swimming pool at Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa?

Is it really a spa day without the chance to dip your toe in some tranquil water? Luckily, there’s an idyllic 18m indoor pool in Crewe Hall’s modern health club, found in the West Wing - a 21st Century addition to the historic hotel. Alongside the atmospherically-lit azure rectangle you’ll find a thermal suite that includes a sauna, steam room, spa bath and heated stone loungers.

Is there accommodation at Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa?

There is. With 117 rooms in total at Crewe Hall, you’ll be spoilt for choice. But will you go for a historic suite or for something more contemporary?

The 117 bedrooms are split between 26 feature rooms and suites in the Old House - some of these feature four-poster beds and marble bathrooms. Or you could choose a Classic room - you’ll find these among the 91 contemporary bedrooms in the West Wing. They’re closer to the spa.

Is Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is, with six purpose-built accessible bedrooms. Over at the ground-floor leisure club you’ll find a designated accessible toilet and changing area, as well as a wheel-in shower with a drop-down seat and grab rails. There’s level access to the poolside, with steps and a handrail leading into the shallow end of the pool.

What are check-in and check-out times at Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa?

Staying overnight? Room check-in is from 3pm and you’ll need to check out by 11am. For spa days, arrival times are generally from 10am, but do check your booking confirmation for full details.

Where is Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa?

You’ll find Crewe Hall in the heart of Cheshire, just 10 mins away from the centre of Crewe. It’s location is ideal for days spent window shopping and café hopping in Crewe itself, but it’s also well-placed for visits to Alton Towers, Chester Zoo and Blue Planet Aquarium.

Is Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Children get a warm welcome at Crewe Hall, with kids’ menus and plenty of space for them to let off steam. Interconnecting rooms were made for families with teens, while generously-sized family rooms offer cots for tots and Z-beds for kids.

While under 16s can’t use the gym or thermal facilities, little ones can splash in the pool every weekday from 9.30am to 11.30am and 3.30pm and 6.30pm (9am to 11am and 3pm to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays).

If the pool’s not enough to keep them busy, the hotel puts you in pole position for local attractions such as Chester Zoo, Alton Towers and Gulliver's World.

Is Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

You don't need to leave your dog at home when you’re staying overnight at the fabulously pet-friendly Crewe Hall. Pampered pooches can stay in the hotel for £25 per night and are free to curl up by your side at the hotel’s indoor and outdoor dog-friendly dining spaces. When it’s time for walkies you can stroll the grounds, or let them run free with some off-lead fun in the hotel’s events field.

Is there a golf club at Crewe Hall Hotel & Spa?

No, there’s no golf course on-site, but there are two stunning courses nearby, both under three miles away. Wychwood Park is an 18-hole, European PGA tour-standard course, while Crewe Park has 18 holes set in 150 acres of rolling Cheshire countryside.
