Just had a treatment and spa day at Aldwark. Nice setting and friendly staff. Massage was very good and left me feeling very relaxed. Afternoon tea was also very good. The spa itself looked a little tired. Jacuzzi was out of action which was disappointing. Left early as pool was very busy and noisy so not very relaxing.

We had the serenity spa experience day. On arrival we were given a glass of prosecco each which was amazing quality! I had a back massage which was fantastic, super relaxing and got all the knots out of my back. We then had afternoon tea which was really tasty, and you can have as much tea and coffee as you like! The cafe area is very picturesque and relaxing. We then spent the rest of the day in the spa. Very clean and beautiful inside. We spent our time between the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and pool. Absolutely great value for money and such a beautiful place. Would really recommend for all types of groups, couples, friends etc for a relaxing day out!

We enjoyed our day. The facilities are good, and we really enjoyed the afternoon tea. One or two small points though: the building which houses the spa is not easy to find, as the sign is hidden by a large bush. This made us a little late, as we drove around for a while looking for the spa. We were not allowed to have treatments at the same time (which meant we didn't see each other for 2 hours), nor were we allowed to have our treatments in the afternoon. This meant we had to spend the rest of the day trying not to get our faces wet and wash off the products! Most good spas have shampoo/shower gel etc. in the showers, but we had to go in search of some at reception. Overall though, a lovely day which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Where is Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate located?

It’s tucked away in the sleepy village of Aldwark near Alne, right in the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside. But while the location is the ultimate rural escape, it’s incredibly easy to access, being just a short drive from the main A59 and A1(M) motorways.

If you fancy swapping the countryside for a bit of city exploring, the estate is nestled almost exactly equidistant between two of Yorkshire’s most famous towns. The historic, walled city of York is just 12 to 14 miles away (around a 40-minute drive). And, in the other direction, the elegant, floral spa town of Harrogate is also roughly 12 to 15 miles away (about a 35-to-40-minute drive).

What’s the history of Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate?

Aldwark Manor Estate has a history as rich as its afternoon teas! With roots that date back to the 1086 Domesday Book survey, a medieval moated manor house stood on the grounds for generations. However, that original structure was eventually demolished, paving the way for the current grand Victorian manor house, built in 1863.

The building remained a private family estate for nearly a century, until the house was requisitioned by military forces during the Second World War. After serving as a residential school for boys in the 1950s, local entrepreneurs stepped in during 1978 to convert the historic house and its remaining parkland into a luxury hotel and golf course. Today, following an extensive £30 million multi-year transformation master plan, the estate blends its 19th-century Victorian charm with modern opulence.

Is Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate family-friendly?

Sorry! The brand-new Salus Spa facilities and treatment rooms are strictly an adults-only sanctuary to preserve the peace. However, children of hotel guests can use the indoor swimming pool during designated family swim times.

The hotel itself is family friendly with rollaway beds in larger bedrooms and kid-friendly meals. Plus the sprawling 200 acres of grounds are like a giant playground! Kids will absolutely love playing with the giant outdoor chess set and testing their skills on the croquet lawn during the warmer months

Is Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate accessible?

Yes it is! In fact, the new Salus Spa and wellness complex has been built with modern inclusion in mind. Elements Restaurant has an accessible ramp and lift and, if you’re staying overnight, there are three accessible bedrooms.

Is Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate pet-friendly?

Sorry, it’s mostly a pup-free zone. The hotel does not allow dogs into the main hotel, but they are allowed in Bunkers Bar. They can also stay with you in South Lodge (the self-contained lodge with its private hot tub) for an additional fee.

Does Salus Spa@Aldwark Manor Estate have a golf course?

It does, and it’s a total showstopper! The estate’s 18-hole, par-70 golf course wraps around the historic manor house. And, thanks to a massive £15 million course transformation, this isn’t just your standard walk in the park. The layout curves right along the edge of the winding River Ure, which means you will be testing your swing against a lively mix of dramatic water hazards, towering trees and beautifully manicured greens.
