About

Fancy a Bristol spa day in a hotel that’s every bit as cool and quirky as the city itself? Set within two grand 19th century bank buildings with a cavernous underground spa carved out of the original vaults, Bristol Harbour Hotel is a beautiful blend of eccentricity, grandeur and modern luxury. Add striking architecture and contemporary interiors and it’s no wonder this hip destination has been recognised as one of the Top 100 Best British Hotels by The Sunday Times.

Descend into the HarSPA, a literal warren of wellness set behind 18-inch thick, solid steel vault doors. Take a dip against the resistance current of the swimming pool or relax into the powerful jets of the hydrotherapy pool, both framed by atmospheric lighting and historic arched ceilings. A sauna, steam room and seven treatment rooms offer everything from soothing massages to revitalising facials using TempleSpa and Elemis products. Then, once you’ve been thoroughly pummelled and pampered, you can curl up in one of the cosy relaxation nooks and let the world drift away.

Checking in for the night? The 42 luxury bedrooms and suites continue the hotel’s urban-chic theme. Interiors blend velveteen fabrics, elegant furnishings and vibrant colour palettes with magnificent period features. Many rooms overlook St Nicholas Market or the rooftops of the Old City, and some suites even feature free‑standing roll‑top baths at the foot of the bed. Every guest is welcomed with thoughtful touches like Egyptian cotton sheets, top‑tier toiletries, Nespresso machines and complimentary decanters of gin and sherry.

Luckily, the food and drink are just as memorable as that eye-catching façade! The Harbour Kitchen serves up proper West Country dining in the magnificent Grade II‑listed former banking hall, with a menu celebrating seasonal seafood. For evening drinks, glam up and slip into The Gold Bar, a decadent speakeasy‑style hideaway in the former Bank Manager’s office. With live DJs, inventive cocktails and an opulent atmosphere, it’s an uber-stylish place to toast your spa day.

Step outside and you’re right in the heart of Bristol’s cobbled Old City. St Nicholas Market, Queen Square, Castle Park and the buzzing Harbourside are all just a short stroll away. Whether you’re exploring the SS Great Britain, tracking down Banksy murals or paddleboarding in the Floating Harbour, everything that makes Bristol such a vibrant, creative destination is right on your doorstep.

The Spa & Wellness at Bristol Harbour Hotel & Spa

Spas should always be places where you can lock your worries away for a few hours. And at this one-of-a-kind HarSPA, they take this concept literally! This wellness warren is carved out of the former bank vault, with the beautifully-restored solid steel doors still intact.

Leave the bustle of Corn Street behind and tiptoe down to this subterranean sanctuary. Arched ceilings and low-level, atmospheric lighting enhance the feeling of being in a luxurious, secret cavern. In fact, the 7m swimming pool with its own resistance current is situated exactly where the bank's most precious assets were once stored.

While the space inside HarSPA is compact and cosy, it comes packed with high-end facilities. There’s a spacious hydrotherapy pool with powerfully soothing jets to ease tired muscles after a day of roaming Bristol’s colourful streets.

Spend time flitting between the traditional sauna and steam room, but leave time for your treatment. The mouth-watering menu of TempleSpa and Elemis rituals were designed to completely reset your body and mind. Our tip? Try the ‘Your Best You’, a specialist 60-minute treatment using warm and cool Himalayan salt stones to rebalance and soothe.

Then, after being pleasantly pummelled and pampered, you can retire to a relaxation nook. These come fitted with plush cushions – the perfect spot for some well-earned post-treatment chilling.

The Gym & Fitness at Bristol Harbour Hotel & Spa

Robe off, activewear on! There’s no need to leave your fitness goals behind when you’re on a spa break to the Bristol Harbour Hotel & Spa. It has everything you need to help you work out, chill out and refresh your body and mind.

Work up an appetite at the state-of-the-art urban gym, where treadmills, cross-trainers, bikes and weights let you burn calories, tone up and build muscle. Energise with a session on the punchbag, but if you prefer your exercise with lashings of fresh air, you’re in for a treat. The hotel is just a short stroll from the Harbourside, Castle Park and Queen Square if you fancy a spot of power-walking or a morning jog.

But if you’re in the mood for something more adventurous, Bristol has plenty to offer. Take a traffic-free bike ride along the 13 mile Bristol to Bath Railway Path, go indoor climbing at Redpoint or Bloc or try paddleboarding and kayaking in the Floating Harbour.

Restaurants & Food at Bristol Harbour Hotel & Spa

You’ve taken a spa journey through the warren of wellness in the bank vaults. Now it’s time to head upstairs for a much more opulent experience! The Gold Bar and Harbour Kitchen are a masterclass in glamorous drinking and dining, boasting two contrasting vibes…

The Gold Bar

Love your spa days with lashings of urban luxury and perhaps a dangerously-good cocktail or two? Pull up a plush bar stool at the hotel’s glittering speakeasy-style hangout, order a Bison Punch and watch the mixologists at work.

This intimate, low-lit den of opulence is housed entirely within the former Bank Manager’s office of the old Lloyds Bank. You’ll find velvet banquettes, decadent chandeliers and flamboyant wallpaper, along with plenty of playful nods to the hotel’s banking history.

Harbour Kitchen

Just a few steps away, the Harbour Kitchen offers a completely different scale of grandeur. The hotel's stylish seafood bar and grill has an incredible setting in the Grade-II listed former banking hall, featuring stunning high ceilings, stone columns and intricate masonry. Look out for the Bristol Blue glass windows that cast a unique light over the room.

Bright and buzzing with an open kitchen and a marble bar, the decor features aqua and green upholstery that mirrors the seaside dishes on the menu. Don’t miss the famous Harbour Fish Pie – the comforting classic that Harbour Hotels are famous for!

My husband and I had a fantastic morning in the spa as part of our stay at the Harbour Hotel. Our package included 4 hours access to the spa, a 45 minute back massage each and lunch. The spa was very relaxing. It was not at all busy, for about 20 minutes, I was the only person in there. Unfortunately, the steam room was out of order, so we could only use the sauna, pool and jacuzzi. My massage was with Jodie. It was excellent. I asked for firm pressure and that was exactly what I got. I felt amazing afterwards. Lunch was also delicious, particularly the starters. I can thoroughly recommend the sticky pork belly and the mushroom and tarragon pâté. I would definitely return.

This spa is "so cute". The pool is 1.1 meter depth and has seating sections. There is a Jacuzzi, steam and sauna, plus a gym. Two areas of large lounging for relaxing and reading. We didn't have any treatments on this visit.

Me and my partner booked for a four hour use of the spa facilities as a treat for my birthday. We both enjoyed ourselves and found the facilities well maintained, not too busy with other guests, and all in all, an enjoyable and relaxing experience. The only things I would change would be for the towels and gowns to be softer, and to perhaps offer a smaller spa use package, as we found that 2 hours was more than enough and left at around two hours and 15 minutes. Other than that, I'd love to visit again!

The spa was in an underground old vault. It was a little bit too compact for me. Staff were very nice, helpful, massage good. Showers could do with improving and shampoo conditioner needed filling. Robes, towels, slippers all provided and very clean.

First time booking through SpaSeekers and it had a lovely package with massage, facial, glass of prosecco and 3 hours use of the facility. Even though it was quite a small place, there were only a hand full of people there at a time and most of the time it felt like I was by myself! The staff there were really nice and the masseuse was lovely too! I put medium pressure but maybe firm would be ideal! Definitely recommend it here.

Things like adorable edible plant pots, mini fish and chips and even British corn dogs have popped up on the menu in the past!
