About
Colourful, bohemian and always party-ready, Brighton is a true seaside original. A city this vibrant deserves a hotel with just as much personality, and Brighton Harbour Hotel delivers retro charm by the bucket‑and‑spade‑load. With pride of place on the world‑famous promenade, it’s steps from the iconic pier and famously pebbly beach. Even better, its spectacular subterranean spa grotto is ready and waiting, whenever you need a break from exploring the city’s cool and quirky delights.
When Harbour Hotels began renovating this Victorian, sea‑facing beauty, they uncovered a hidden treasure. Tucked away in the basement were 18th‑century smugglers’ tunnels that lead straight to the beach, once used to stash alcohol and tobacco. One spectacular transformation later, HarSPA emerged. Candlelit and atmospheric, original vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork make it feel part secret hideout and part luxury sanctuary.
Tiptoe three floors down from the sleek spa reception, and you’ll find a sauna, steam room, day beds and two cosy Scandinavian hot tubs. Head up a level and the indulgence continues with a large hydrotherapy pool, a 10m heated swimming pool, a well‑equipped gym and six treatment rooms for Elemis, Templespa and HarSPA signature rituals. Everything you need for a little seaside self‑care!
Upstairs, the luxury continues. A frequent feature on many a ‘best hotels in Brighton’ list, original architectural features blend with pops of Brighton’s eccentric personality. Brimming with nautical colours and retro seaside fun, the décor is a masterclass in maritime chic, where Art Deco seaside prints meet vibrant fabrics.
Tempted to turn your spa day into a spa stay? All of the 79 bedrooms come with little luxuries like Egyptian cotton sheets, Nespresso coffee machines, and high-end toiletries. You’ll find your own complimentary decanters of gin and sherry and, if you’ve bagged a sea-view room, keep an eye out for the in-room binoculars – perfect for watching the sunset murmurations of starlings over the water from the comfort of your bed.
The hotel’s HarBAR + Kitchen serves up panoramic views of the Palace Pier through its floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s a bright, buzzy spot that champions fresh, local seafood and British classics, though for a real treat, you shouldn’t miss their whimsical Funfair Afternoon Tea complete with nostalgia-filled treats like candy floss and mini fish and chips.
If you can bear to leave the hotel, all of Brighton is right on the hotel’s doorstep, from the indie boutiques of The Lanes to the history-packed Royal Pavilion. You can take a nostalgic ride on Volk's Electric Railway along the beach, or head into the North Laine to get lost in the wonderful vintage chaos of Snoopers Paradise. Just outside the city, the picturesque countryside of the South Downs National Park offers a peaceful rural escape. Or simply stay put and take a paddle on the beach just outside Brighton Harbour Hotel.

The Spa & Wellness at Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa
A trip to HarSPA at the Brighton Harbour Hotel feels like discovering a hidden secret beneath the city's busy streets. As the only luxury subterranean spa in Brighton, it is built directly into old smuggler's tunnels, where rustic exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings create an atmospheric, candlelit haven.
Stop and smell the essential oils, then slip into the warm glow of the pool area. Take a swim beneath soft mood lighting, bubble away in the hydrotherapy pool with its artfully placed pressure jets and detox in the steam room and sauna. Feeling romantic? The Scandinavian ‘togetherness’ hot tubs are perfect for two.
When it’s time for a treatment, everything centres around deep restoration. Therapists use high‑end products from Templespa and Elemis Expert, whether you’re indulging in a Signature Spa Ritual or enjoying a targeted pick‑me‑up. Afterwards, retreat to a plush day bed and let that post‑massage haze linger a little longer.
The Gym & Fitness at Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa
Like to energise as well as pamper? With its own gym, Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa lets you do both! This compact space in the subterranean spa comes crammed with high-quality equipment to help you take your workout to the next level.
Sweat it out on treadmills, ellipticals and the stationary bike, or tone up with dumbbells, kettlebells or one of the resistance training machines. Hit the mats for some stretching, then work on your core with functional gear like sandbags.
Like to exercise in the fresh air? Brighton does outdoor fitness so well! Step out from the lobby and straight onto the promenade, where a brisk morning walk or jog with views of the pier is the ultimate way to wake up. If you’d rather explore on two wheels, pay-as-you-go Beryl bikes are parked just moments away, for a breezy cycle along the dedicated coastal paths to Rottingdean.
With the sea so close by, it would be a crime not to get in, so try swimming, or even paddleboarding and kayaking when the tide is right. Or, for a bit of competitive cardio, have a fun round of mini golf or try your hand at beach volleyball – both options are nearby.
Restaurants & Food at Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa
You know a restaurant’s good when it’s a favourite with locals as well as hotel guests, and HarBAR + Kitchen absolutely fits the bill. With its laid‑back, beachfront vibe, it feels unmistakably Brighton from the moment you walk in.
The décor is a joyful nod to the city’s eccentric side, with quirky touches like carousel‑style lampshades, vibrant seaside art and cheeky neon signs. Huge floor‑to‑ceiling windows and folding doors open straight onto the promenade, giving you a front‑row seat to the glittering English Channel while you dine.
The menu is an all‑day celebration of fresh, locally sourced seafood and modern British comfort food. Don’t miss the legendary crispy fish and chips with smashed peas or the indulgent Harbour Hamburger. And, if you’re visiting on a Sunday, their roasts are a Brighton favourite, complete with fluffy spuds and proper gravy for the ultimate lazy afternoon.

Utterly enjoyable experience. My partner and myself had a wonderful day. The only thing I would suggest for next time, my masseuse had a cold hands and I would have appreciated her wearing a mask as I am immunocompromised. Something for next time though! 😊 We had the best time otherwise and the food afterwards was perfect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?
It sure does, and it’s a seaside indulgence that’s not to be missed. With a nod to the seafront’s traditional carousel, the Brighton Funfair Afternoon Tea features a nostalgic merry-go-round of treats. Forget boring sarnies, because on the menu you’ll find tasty savouries like mini cheeseburgers, mini corn dogs and fish and chips!
It’s served alongside doughnuts, marshmallow lollipops, and even a 99 Flake ice cream. Wash it all down with one of their artisan cocktails crafted by expert mixologists, and it sounds like the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Does the Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa have a swimming pool?
Yes it does, and it’s beautifully relaxing. Hidden deep beneath the hotel, the 10m pool nestles amid the vaulted brick ceilings and exposed flint walls to make it feel like you're swimming in a secret underground grotto. You won’t believe that the busy Brighton seafront is just a few floors above you!
Does the Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa have accommodation?
Yes and it’s every bit as stylish as the city itself! The hotel features 79 boutique bedrooms, ranging from Cosy rooms perfect for a quick coastal escape, to indulgent Corner Suites for the ultimate retreat.
Because of its prime location on the King’s Road, many rooms boast spectacular sea views from huge windows. Don’t miss the in-room binoculars tucked into the window nooks so you can watch the starlings over the West Pier or the waves rolling in.
Every room is packed with Harbour luxuries, including Egyptian cotton sheets, a Nespresso coffee machine, and a powerful waterfall shower stocked with premium toiletries. And for the ultimate decadence? You’ll find complimentary decanters of gin and sherry waiting for you in every room, perfect for a cheeky post-spa tipple.

For overnight stays, check-in time is from 3pm and check-out time is by 11am.
For full-day, half-day and twilight spa packages, arrival times vary. Best to check your booking confirmation.
Is Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa family-friendly?
Yes, it is. While children under 18 can’t have a treatment, use the thermal facilities or hit the gym, mini hotel guests can splash around in the swimming pool daily between 8am and 9.30am and 5pm to 6.30pm daily.
Children are well-catered for in the HarBAR & Kitchen where they’ll find a menu created just for them. And while there are no family rooms, some are interconnecting while others can accommodate an extra bed or cot. And with Brighton pier and the lively seafront just steps away, there’s plenty to keep them entertained.
Is Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa accessible?
Sorry, it isn’t. The HarSPA is a subterranean grotto located over three floors right down in the basement of the hotel. There is a lift that takes you to the spa reception but no lower. The hotel itself doesn’t have any accessible rooms, but there is a lift to all floors and some rooms have large walk-in showers.
Is Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa dog-friendly?
Want to bring your pooch for some pampering? You’re in luck! The hotel has specific dog-friendly rooms and charges £15 per night, per dog. Well-behaved boys and girls can join you in the bar, restaurant and snug. Then the whole of Brighton is theirs to enjoy – the city is fabulously dog-friendly. Just keep an eye on the restrictions if you were planning on a pebbly beach walk. From 1 May to 30 September dogs are only permitted on certain beaches.
Does Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa have a golf course?
This city-centre, seafront hotel doesn’t have its own golf course. But it’s perfectly positioned for both serious golfers and those just looking for a bit of fun with friends.
For a proper round, Hollingbury Park Golf Course is a fantastic local option that welcomes visitors on a pay-and-play basis. Set high on the Sussex Downs, this 18-hole championship course offers spectacular panoramic views across the city and the English Channel – just be prepared for a few hills!.
If you’re looking for something more social, Brighton’s seafront is packed with options. Outdoors there’s Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf on Madeira Drive, widely considered Brighton’s best mini-golf, or head to East Street’s neon-lit One Under if it’s a rainy day.
