About
Thought you had to go to Bath to reap the health benefits of mineral-rich water? Not at The New Bath Hotel & Spa. This Peak District beauty was built around a natural spring that helped establish Matlock Bath as one of England’s earliest spa destinations. Today, that heritage lives on in its outdoor lido, a rare historic pool that lets you soak in style and history, no chlorine required!
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Derbyshire Dales, this atmospheric Georgian retreat is now part of the Radisson Individuals collection, blending character, comfort and contemporary style in all the right ways. Perched above the River Derwent and surrounded by immaculate gardens, it feels like a grand country escape, with its inviting lounges and elegant spaces to eat and drink. History isn’t just all around you. It’s also under your feet. The original thermal bath still sits in the basement today, a remarkable relic of Matlock Bath’s spa‑town story.
But until the historic bath is restored, there’s plenty of modern pampering to take part in. Drift between the hot tub, sauna and steam room, or let expert therapists work their magic with ESPA treatments in two tranquil treatment rooms. Whether you’re craving deep relaxation or a revitalising boost, the serene atmosphere makes switching off feel effortless.
The dog‑friendly hotel is also perfectly placed for exploring. It’s within walking distance of Matlock Bath’s main attractions, including the Peak District Mining Museum, Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham – the famous cable‑car experience with panoramic views and cavern tours. Matlock Bath’s riverside promenade, quirky shops and woodland trails are all close by. Or just lace up your walking boots for limestone cliffs, sweeping valley views and some of the most scenic corners of the Derbyshire Dales.
As evening falls, settle into the Fountain Restaurant for dinner or curl up with a drink in Spinners Bar And when it’s time to turn in, 54 bedrooms offer crisp linens and period features that remind you you’re somewhere very special indeed.

The Spa & Wellness at New Bath Hotel and Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals
People have been coming to Matlock Bath for centuries to enjoy its mineral‑rich springs. And at The New Bath Hotel & Spa, that tradition continues – but with some luxuriously modern comforts thrown in.
At the heart of it all is the historic spring‑fed outdoor lido, still supplied by the mineral-rich waters that first put this corner of the Derwent Valley on the map. Open-year round, you can slip into the refreshing 19.8°C. water and let the centuries‑old ritual of thermal bathing wash over you.
Fancy something a little bit warmer? Inside, the hot tub, sauna and steam room beckon. Move between the heat and hydro experiences at your own pace, before heading to one of two treatment rooms for a targeted ESPA ritual. Whether you’re easing tired muscles, brightening your skin or simply indulging in some well‑earned me‑time, the therapists here know how to help you unwind.

There’s no gym here, but you will find outdoor tennis courts for a friendly match. And, of course, the hotel’s historic spring‑fed lido is ideal for a refreshing dip. At an impressive 36m in length, your arms will really feel it the next day!
The hotel sits right on the edge of the Peak District, with some brilliant hikes close by. You can follow the riverside path through Matlock Bath or climb up to High Tor for dramatic limestone views. Feeling adventurous? The area is a magnet for rock climbing, cycling and other outdoor pursuits– ideal if you like your wellness with a little adrenaline.

Definitely one for the bucket list. This place is brilliant and the staff are so lovely and knowledgeable. We were a party of four. The treatments were amazing and facilities were clean and relaxing. It all went so smoothly and topped it off with fresh baked scones and tea!

Fantastic spa! I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the spa, everything was easy to use and navigate and clean. The staff were all polite and the cream tea afterwards was really nice! The treatment itself (head, face and back massage) was great! Very relaxing x Would definitely come back x

Overall a very nice place, with friendly welcoming staff. I had a pedicure and my husband had a full body massage which he said was very good. The lady that did my pedicure was lovely and she did a great job my feet are now soft and pretty. The spa itself is a little underwhelming small and basic there is no indoor pool or relaxation rooms just an outdoor hot tub sauna and steam room and an outdoor pool. We couldn't use the pool due to the weather. I would come back for treatments and a meal but would probably go elsewhere if I just wanted a spa day.

The booking process was great, I was assisted by a very helpful member of staff. We were greeted and shown around by someone and everything was very clean and comfortable. The treatment itself was 10/10, possibly the best massage I’ve ever had. The therapists were very knowledgeable and kind. In the restaurant for our afternoon tea we were served a round of coffees on arrival but proceeded to wait for over an hour to be served again. The waitress was polite and apologetic for the wait and brought us another round of coffee. We eventually received a plate of defrosted scones which were still extremely cold and hard in the centre. The lovely waitress apologised again for the wait and explained that they had a new chef which my partner and I found hilarious because the scones had simply been defrosted. They didn’t spoil the day, it was just a shame that the cream tea let the standards of everything else down by miles. We would visit again.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does New Bath Hotel and Spa serve afternoon tea?
Name a more decadent duo than pampering and pastry. You can’t, it simply doesn’t exist. Luckily, many spa days here include either a cream tea or the full afternoon tea experience, complete with all the trimmings.
In summer, you can take your tea out into the gardens, where breathtaking views of the Derwent Valley make every bite taste even sweeter. Prefer indoors? Head to the restaurant, where window seats overlook the fountain pond for a peaceful backdrop. Expect delicious cakes, dainty sandwiches, warm scones and, if the occasion calls for it, a celebratory glass of bubbly.
Does the New Bath Hotel and Spa have a swimming pool?
Yes, it does have a swimming pool, and it's a really rather special one. Originally opened in 1934 and beautifully restored, a geothermal source feeds the pool with spring water flowing in at a refreshing 19.8°C.
Open all-year-round, it’s absolutely huge at approximately 36.5 metres long. And because it’s all so fresh and natural, there’s no chlorine to spoil that wild-swimming feel.
Does the New Bath Hotel and Spa have accommodation?
It sure does! Now a member of Radisson Individuals, this beautifully restored 18th-century has 54 bedrooms. Take your pick from classic Georgian‑style rooms or light‑filled garden rooms, all designed for comfort and calm.
You’ll also find plenty of amenities to make your stay feel special, including access to the historic outdoor lido, on‑site dining, the fabulous spa and the peaceful Derwent Valley right outside your window!
What are the check-in and check-out times at the New Bath Hotel and Spa?
Here on an overnight stay at New Bath Hotel and Spa? Lucky you! You can check in anytime from 3pm, while checkout is by 11am. For day packages at the spa, arrival times vary. Check your booking confirmation for details.
Is the New Bath Hotel and Spa accessible?
If accessibility is essential for your stay, it’s best to contact the hotel directly to talk through your requirements.
Where is the New Bath Hotel and Spa located?
The New Bath Hotel & Spa is in Matlock Bath, tucked into scenic grounds overlooking the Derwent Gorge on the edge of the Peak District National Park. But step outside and you’re moments from the lively riverside village of Matlock Bath itself.
This quirky, character-filled town is often described as a seaside town without the sea thanks to its arcades, fish‑and‑chips and promenade‑style streets. It’s also home to the famous Heights of Abraham attraction with its cable cars and cavern tours.
What’s the history of the New Bath Hotel and Spa?
The New Bath Hotel & Spa was a wellness retreat long before it was trendy. It began life in 1745, built around a spring‑fed plunge pool that drew visitors to Matlock Bath for its mineral‑rich waters. Back then it was simply known as The New Bath, and people travelled from far and wide to be soothed by its healing properties.
As its popularity grew, the bathhouse expanded through the late 18th and 19th centuries, eventually becoming the hotel you see today. But the bathing heritage lives on, because the hotel’s historic lido is still fed by the same spring. The original historic bath is still in the basement today, and plans are afoot to restore it back to its original glory. Watch this space.
Is the New Bath Hotel and Spa family-friendly?
While the hotel’s outdoor pool and indoor spa is just for adults only, the hotel itself is family-friendly, thanks to Family Rooms and Junior Suites that include extra beds and lots of space.
You’re also right in Matlock Bath, which means the legendary Heights of Abraham is practically on your doorstep. Kids will love this hilltop estate reached by cable car, and once you’re up there you’ll find guided cavern tours, playgrounds and museums. It’s cool and quirky, like Matlock Bath itself!
Is the New Bath Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?
Time to pack their little doggy suitcase! Pups can check in for £20 per dog, per stay, and up to two well‑behaved doggies are allowed to join you. Dogs are welcome in the lounges, the bar and the outdoor grounds, as long as you keep them on the lead. Just don’t leave them alone in the room – the hotel prefers you to supervise your hair holiday companion at all times!
The hotel is in a great location for dog lovers, with wonderful walkies at nearby Cromford Canal and Derwent Gardens. There are even dog-friendly attractions on offer at The Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Village and Cromford Mills.
Does the New Bath Hotel and Spa have a golf course?
Not one of its own, but Matlock Golf Club is just a short drive away. This gorgeous Peak District course offers a challenging 18-hole par 70 course with spectacular views across the Derwent Valley.
If you prefer your golf with a few more giggles, you’re also near Bonkers Illumination Golf, a neon‑lit mini‑golf experience that proves putting can be both competitive and fabulously silly. Ideal for couples, families, or anyone who thinks golf should involve more UV lighting!
