About
Craving barefoot luxury? Pack your dry robe and head to this swish Salcombe spa hotel. With all the feel of a chic Mediterranean escape, yet right on the butter-soft beach at South Sands, expect sunrise yoga, sunset paddleboarding and G&T sundowners at the buzzy beach-club restaurant overlooking the waves. And just when you thought life couldn’t get any better, the wow‑factor cranks up a notch at the Beach Club Spa, a glass‑walled sanctuary that feels like an extension of the ocean itself.
Energise with a dip in the crystal-clear indoor pool, before hitting the sauna and steam room. The hydrotherapy pool has a dramatic skylight above it, so you can watch the seagulls as you bask in the bubbles. Get a beach-ready glow with a Templespa treatment, then pad out to the spa’s sun-trap terrace to feel the warmth on your face while wrapped up in your fluffy robe.
If you can tear yourself away from your lounger, the hotel’s beachfront position makes it a gateway to the Salcombe estuary. Grab a paddleboard to explore hidden coves, join a guided yoga session on the sand, hit the gym for a workout or borrow a wetsuit for a spot of wild swimming. With the sea right on your doorstep, wellness in the great outdoors feels like a breeze.
Checking in? Good choice. The Harbour Beach Club was named by The Sunday Times as one of the best British hotels for three years running. This larch‑clad building curves gently along the shoreline, giving most of its 50 rooms sweeping Salcombe‑estuary views. The entire ground floor is a relaxed, open‑plan space with cosy seating and board games that flows into the beach‑club bar and restaurant, where floor‑to‑ceiling windows slide back at the first hint of sunshine to reveal a wraparound terrace made for long, lazy lunches.
Ready to explore? Hop on the South Sands Ferry or take the scenic walk into town. Salcombe’s winding, narrow streets are a treasure trove of independent boutiques and upscale galleries. You can’t leave without a scoop of Salcombe Dairy ice cream or a visit to the Salcombe Distilling Co. to see where that famous gin is made. Feeling adventurous? Head up the hill to the National Trust’s subtropical Overbeck’s Garden, or hike the South West Coast Path – it leads right from the hotel’s doorstep towards the dramatic jagged rocks of Bolt Head.

The Spa & Wellness at Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa
With its sand, sea and sunshine, Salcombe already has all the makings of a relaxing escape. But we’ve got one more ingredient to add to the mix – the sumptuous Beach Club Spa at South Sands.
This serene blend of coastal elegance and modern luxury is a sanctuary designed to bring the outside in. Glass-walled and light-filled, the spa mirrors the ‘barefoot luxury’ ethos of the hotel with soft, muted tones and natural textures.
Take a leisurely dip in the 12-metre heated indoor pool, or sink into the hydrotherapy pool to watch the clouds drift by through the overhead skylight. Between sessions in the sauna and steam room, you can refuel with a smoothie at the wellbeing juice bar before heading to one of four tranquil treatment rooms for a Templespa ritual.
And when your treatment ends, the indulgence continues on the private sun deck. This sheltered hideaway is perfect for soaking up some extra vitamin D, letting the sea breeze brush your skin and stretching out that post‑massage glow just a little longer.
The Gym & Fitness at Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa
Working out is great for your body, mind and soul. And the gym at Harbour Beach Club Hotel makes it feel like a treat rather than a chore. Kitted out with the latest equipment, it has everything from cardio machines to free weights, all set against cool, Scandi‑inspired décor.
Prefer to keep fit with friends? You can join one of the fitness classes, try beach yoga with the sand between your toes, or head into the movement studio if the weather decides to misbehave.
If salt water is more your style, the calm waters of the Salcombe Estuary are a natural playground. Grab a paddleboard and explore hidden coves, or hire a wetsuit and brave a spot of wild swimming right on the doorstep of South Sands.
Restaurants & Food at Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa
Staying for lunch or dinner as part of your spa day at the Harbour Beach Club Hotel? Lucky you, because the Beach Club Bar & Restaurant is the place to be. This masterclass in coastal-chic features pale oak, woven textures and soft sea-foam hues that make the transition from beach to bar feel seamless.
The real showstopper here has to be the retractable glass wall that merges the restaurant’s airy indoor space with a sprawling wraparound terrace. It’s the ultimate Salcombe spot for a long, lazy lunch or a local G&T sundowner while listening to the sound of the waves.
The menu is a love letter to the South Devon coast, focusing on local, seasonal ingredients and the morning’s freshest catch. Expect everything from Salcombe crab and grilled local lobster to Mediterranean-inspired small plates made for sharing.
As evening rolls in, the bar’s expert mixologists take centre stage, shaking up botanical cocktails infused with local spirits. Just a word of warning. Whether you’re snuggled into a booth with a board game or clinking glasses of fizz on the sun-trap terrace, it’s the kind of place where an hour has a habit of turning into an entire afternoon!

Lovely venue tucked away in a little cove, easily found with satnav. Staff were super friendly and couldn’t do enough to help and make our treat relaxing and special. On the website it mentioned about tech free within the spa which appealed to us as Hubby spends a lot of time on his phones with work, clearly others couldn’t leave them in the lockers as when in the pool there were a lot of people on phones. They couldn’t manage a couple hours without them!

Due to poor weather conditions and the very narrow windy lanes on our approach and the need to reverse on several occasions, we were late arriving and missed our spa treatments. This was our only disappointment, as unfortunately not offered any alternative options. The pool and Jacuzzi were lovely and we enjoyed the surrounding seating area and loungers inside and in the outdoor space too, overlooking the fields and woodland behind the hotel. We later sat on the lovely sun terrace of the hotel restaurant, looking out on the beach and seaview. We thought the food and drink menu had a lot of variety and the staff were very polite and helpful. The service was excellent.

Right on the edge of the beach, fabulous views and facilities. The pool and spa was modern and relaxing. The treatments very excellent and very professional. The lunch was very delicious, I’d definitely book again. Would even like to go to stay for the night as the staff and ambiance made for an amazingly relaxing day out.

The spa is done very nicely. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's quiet small, but has a steam room and sauna, Jacuzzi (so much chlorine though that we had to close our eyes!) And a lovely good sized pool. We had full body massages, which were pleasant, but not in the realms of others we've had at top spas locally. Lunch allowance was generous and the food excellent and the restaurant is lovely. Altogether a really nice day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?
It serves a proper cream tea with fluffy scones and lashings of clotted cream – well, you are in Devon, after all! Served daily between 3.15pm and 5pm, some spa packages to the Harbour Beach Club Hotel include a £25 food allocation, so you can put that towards your afternoon treat, and maybe even add a glass of fizz if the mood strikes.
Does the Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa have a swimming pool?
If just the idea of taking a sea swim at Salcombe’s beautiful South Sands beach gives you goosebumps, the Harbour Beach Club Hotel has you covered. Their beautiful 12‑metre indoor pool inside the glass-walled Beach Club Spa is warm, calm and wonderfully inviting. Plus there’s a toasty sauna, steam room, hydropool and an outdoor terrace dotted with sun loungers – perfect for drying off in the salty without ever braving the actual sea!
Does the Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa have accommodation?
It certainly does. The Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa offers 50 individually designed bedrooms and suites, all created with the hotel’s signature ‘barefoot luxury’ feel. Expect natural textures everywhere, from the woven‑wicker headboards and herringbone wood floors to larch‑clad balconies that bring the outdoors in.
Thanks to the building’s gentle curve, many rooms enjoy sweeping sea views, while the inland Valley View rooms look out over the lush, rolling Devon hills. Whatever room you choose, you’ll find the colour palette is a soothing blend of ochres, teals and blush pinks, echoing the cliffs, coves and sea views just outside.
Little luxuries come as standard here. Every room includes thoughtful touches like complimentary gin and sherry, a Nespresso machine and organic Bramley toiletries.
What time is check-in and check-out at Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa?
Staying overnight? You can check-in any time after 3pm, while check-out time is up to 11am. For spa packages, arrival times vary – best to check your booking confirmation for full details.
Does the Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa have a dress code?
Barefoot luxury is the vibe here, so there’s no formal dress code. The hotel just asks that you keep your swimwear covered when dining in the restaurant or on the terrace.
What is there to see and do near Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa?
You can’t leave Salcombe without trying a spot of crabbing – its harbour walls are a prime location for dangling a line. Just remember to bait your net with something stinky – the locals swear by bacon fat or mackerel heads. Time your session with the incoming tide for the best chance of a big haul.
For a more grown-up adventure, visit the Salcombe Distilling Co. on Island Street to distil your own bottle of gin. Or head to Overbecks. Perched on the cliffs just above the hotel, this National Trust hidden gem is a subtropical paradise with exotic plants, palms and panoramic views of the estuary.
Is Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa family-friendly?
It certainly is. While the Beach Club Spa is a sanctuary for adults, the hotel still rolls out the red carpet for mini explorers. While guests under 18 can’t book a treatment, use the thermal facilities, or hit the gym, they are more than welcome to make a splash in the swimming pool. There are dedicated family swimming times from 8.30am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm daily. These are the perfect slots to aim for if you have kids in tow (or the times to avoid if you’re after total peace and quiet!)
You won’t find traditional family rooms here, but the hotel is cleverly designed for the whole clan to spread out. Many of the Seaview and Inland rooms are connecting or adjoining, giving everyone their own space while staying close by.
The ground floor is a winner for families – it’s a relaxed, open-plan space filled with cosy seating and board games. But the real magic is the location. Being right on the butter-soft sands of South Sands beach means you can go from breakfast to sandcastle-building in seconds!
Is Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa accessible?
Yes it is. Ground-level entrances and lifts offer easy access to all rooms and suites, but there’s also dedicated accessible rooms with wet-room-style bathrooms and grab rails. The only room that isn’t accessible is the Penthouse Suite on the third floor which is reached by stairs from the second floor.
The Beach Club Spa is accessible via a ramp and has a single-level layout. There’s good access, but no pool hoist and there are steps to get into the hydropool.
Is Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa dog-friendly?
Sadly, no. Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa isn’t four-legs friendly, unless yours is a service dog. But their sister property, Harbour Hotel Salcombe, does have designated dog‑friendly rooms, so your furry friend can still enjoy a seaside holiday.
Coming for a meal? Dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant, but can join you on the terrace if you keep them on a lead. This is at the manager’s discretion, so tell them to be on their best behaviour.
Does the Harbour Beach Club Hotel & Spa have a golf course?
No, there’s no golf course at the Harbour Hotel Salcombe, but the Thurlestone Golf Club is under a 20-minute drive away. With undulating fairways, well-placed bunkers and winds coming off the sea to keep you on your toes, this golfer’s paradise makes the most of every inch of its stunning location. It’s situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so expect some spectacular views over the coves where smugglers used to operate.
