About

Love your spa breaks to come wrapped in quiet luxury, then dipped in chic, modern design? Same. And luckily, you’ll find effortless elegance in abundance at Donnington & Co. Set within 120 acres of parkland just outside Newbury, this isn’t your average countryside bolthole. It’s a family‑owned four‑star retreat, fresh from a glow‑up that brings its championship golf course, award‑winning restaurant, spa and health club all under one sophisticated umbrella. The estate now feels more like a high‑end resort – not too flashy, not too fussy, but absolutely spot‑on when it comes to spoiling you rotten!

So what gives this Berkshire beauty its sparkle? It’s all in the dashing design details of the 2025 refurbishment. Previously known as Donnington Valley, the rebrand has breathed new life into the estate, swapping traditional décor for a curated blend of bespoke woodwork and warm metallics. The lobby has been transformed into a suave, split-level hangout with a private-members-club feel, while two-AA-rosette-winning PRESS showcases gold‑hued glamour and seasonal British plates that actually live up to the hype. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail on the terrace, energising at the gym or testing your mettle on the legendary ‘Big Dipper’ 15th hole, the vibe here is sophisticated without ever tipping into stuffy.

And then there’s the spa itself. This light-filled sanctuary features an airy 18m indoor pool and hot tub, plus a thermal suite complete with glass-fronted sauna, steam room and monsoon showers. Hit the aromatherapy room to clear the cobwebs, or wrap up in your robe on the sun terrace. With bento-box lunches and classic afternoon teas in the spa lounge, plus botanical rituals from Templespa, this is a place where ‘me-time’ isn’t just an afterthought – it’s the main event.

When you finally retire to one of the 113 bedrooms, you’ll find everything’s geared towards giving you a great night’s sleep. Crisp linen, fresh milk and baths you just want to slip into mingle with thoughtful in-room touches, like marble bathrooms, fluffy robes and Templespa products. Most rooms offer serene views so you can see the Berkshire countryside without even lifting your head from the pillow.

You may be tempted to stay put, but the local area is far too charming to miss. Stroll straight from the hotel grounds to the ruins of Donnington Castle for a dose of 14th‑century history, or take the short drive to the real‑life Downton Abbey at Highclere Castle. Combine your spa break with a spot of shopping at the independent boutiques in Newbury, just a five-minute drive away. Or hunt for designer treasures further afield at Bicester Village, where you’ll find the discounts are almost as restorative as your stay at Donnington & Co.

The Spa & Wellness at Donnington and Co Spa

Frazzled? Flat? Functioning on fumes? The spa at Donnington & Co. is ready and waiting to revive you. Step inside this light-filled sanctuary and you’ll instantly feel lighter and brighter, before you’ve even changed into your fluffy robe.

Energise with a swim in the 18‑metre indoor pool, bask in the bubbling hot tub or take a little thermal journey from sauna and steam room to aromatherapy room – and back again. Poolside loungers are plentiful, and if the sun’s out, the terrace makes the perfect spot for an extra dose of vitamin D.

Stop for a bento-style lunch at the spa lounge, before padding through to one of six serene treatment rooms for a ritual powered by the botanical brilliance of TEMPLESPA. Our tip? Try the My Kinda Skin prescriptive facial. Trained therapists analyse your complexion and tailor every step to what your skin actually needs. You’ll feel amazing – and look transformed.

The Gym & Fitness at Donnington and Co Spa

You’ve soothed your soul with a TEMPLESPA treatment and floated to nirvana in the aromatherapy room. Now, it’s time to energise! Whether you’re a dedicated gym bunny or just fancy a light stretch, the health club at Donnington & Co. is designed to make working out feel like a luxury rather than a chore.

The state-of-the-art gym comes fully equipped with high-tech Matrix cardiovascular and strength equipment to help you hit your goals. Want some extra motivation? The dedicated dance and fitness studio plays host to a packed timetable of classes, from high-energy studio cycling and circuits to the mindful flow of yoga and pilates. You can even take the plunge with a rejuvenating aqua aerobics class.

But with 120 acres of Berkshire parkland at your feet, the best gym might just be the great outdoors. Sports-lovers can hit the championship course or swing stuio. Or trade golf shoes for hiking boots and stroll to the ruins of Donnington Castle. You can walk straight from the hotel grounds on a picturesque, traffic-free route that takes you to the 14th-century ruins in just 20 minutes.

Restaurants & Food at Donnington and Co Spa

Here on a spa package that includes a bento-box lunch or afternoon tea? No need to change out of your robe, because you’ll eat it in the comfort of the spa lounge. Bento boxes are a perfectly curated, tiered lunch of fresh, vibrant flavours, while classic afternoon teas feature delicate finger sandwiches, patisserie and scones – the perfect pairing with lashings of fizz.

As evening falls, trade your robe for your glad rags and head to PRESS. Well worth getting glammed up for, the striking central banquet table acts as the design anchor for the room, setting a sophisticated, social tone that feels more like a swanky private members’ club than a hotel dining room!

With two AA Rosettes under its belt and a focus on seasonal British flavours, the menu at PRESS is all about feel-good food and hearty plates. Spa break guests enjoy a £30 allocation toward the menu, giving you the freedom to choose between a hand-cut steak, delicate market fish or a vegetarian masterpiece.

For a pre-dinner sharpener or a post-spa wind-down, The Bar & Mezzanine is the place to be. It’s home to an award-winning wine list featuring prestigious bins from the family’s own Peter Michael Winery in California – a unique touch you won’t find elsewhere.

More into your mixology than your Merlot? The cocktail menu is a masterclass. Sip a signature botanical infusion or a classic crisp martini out on the terrace as you watch the sun dip behind the treeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Donnington & Co. serve afternoon tea?

It sure does – and it’s safe to say they take their sweet treats seriously. Afternoon tea is served in the suave surroundings of the Bar & Mezzanine, where the whole experience feels like you’re in an exclusive private-members’ club.

Expect warm, home‑baked scones with thick clotted cream, seasonal preserves and patisserie so pretty you’ll hesitate before taking the first bite. There’s a whole library of artisan teas to choose from – though many guests find the Peter Michael Winery sparkling wine a far more tempting pairing!

The savoury selection is just as impressive. You’ll find smoked salmon and dill crème fraîche wraps, coronation chicken sliders, egg and truffle mayo on soft white bread, and pickled cucumber with smoked paprika cream cheese on granary. Warmed golden‑raisin and plain scones follow, before a line‑up of seasonal pastries crafted to perfection by the hotel’s chefs. If you’re in the mood to make it a celebration, you can even upgrade to a bottomless afternoon tea where the prosecco keeps flowing – don’t mind if we do!

Does your spa package include afternoon tea? You’ll enjoy it in the robed‑and‑relaxed spa lounge – the perfect setting to linger over tea-time treats without ever having to part company with your slippers.

Does Donnington & Co. have a swimming pool?

They certainly do, and it is the sparkling centrepiece of the spa sanctuary. The health club at Donnington & Co. features a 18-metre indoor swimming pool housed in a stunning hall with a high, vaulted ceiling that makes every lap feel special.

There’s a bubbling hot tub for those who prefer lounging to swimming, plus the poolside is lined with comfortable loungers, perfect for catching up on a book between dips. The pool has its own thermal suite that includes a sauna, steam room and aromatherapy room – so the post-swim wind-down is just as indulgent as the exercise itself.

Does Donnington & Co. have accommodation?

It certainly does! While the estate is sprawling, the hotel remains intimate enough to feel like a boutique sanctuary. They have 113 elegantly appointed bedrooms, ranging from cosy Classics to spacious suites, still fresh from their 2025 glow-up.

If you’re here on a spa break, you’ll stay in a luxurious Classic room designed for deep relaxation, featuring marble bathrooms, crisp white sheets and Templespa bathing products so you can take that spa feeling back to your room. Many offer serene views over the championship golf greens or the rolling Berkshire parkland.

If you’re here for a spa day at Donnington & Co., arrival times vary. It’s best to check your booking confirmation before you go. If you’re staying overnight on a spa break, you can check in and start enjoying the luxe leisure from 3pm, while check-out is at 11am.

Yes, it is, with 30 spacious family rooms giving everyone the space to spread out. PRESS offers a dedicated children’s menu alongside its award-winning seasonal plates, ensuring even the pickiest eaters feel like VIPs. And, while little ones can’t use the thermal suite, kids can splash in the pool every day from 10am to 12pm and 3pm to 5pm.

Beyond the pool, the 120-acre estate is a natural playground for explorers of all ages. There are activities laid on for little ones during school holidays, while families can stroll straight from the hotel to the ruins of Donnington Castle. You can even head to the nearby Snelsmore Common to spot wild ponies.

Is Donnington & Co. accessible?

Yes it is. Donnington & Co. is designed with accessibility in mind, with a modern layout that includes ramp access and lifts. The hotel has accessible rooms, and all of its main social hubs are situated on level ground or reachable via internal lifts.

The spa is wheelchair accessible. But while the indoor pool and relaxation areas are on the ground floor, the changing facilities do not currently lead directly onto the poolside for wheelchair users. However, the attentive team is always on hand to assist with specific requirements, so your pampering day remains as relaxing as intended.

Is Donnington & Co. pet-friendly?

Good news for dog lovers! Donnington & Co. has a selection of spacious dog-friendly rooms, all with easy access to the gardens. Just make sure they save up their paw-ket money – it costs £30 per pampered pooch, per night.

Does Donnington & Co. have a golf course?

Oh yes it does, and it’s pretty special. The championship 18-hole, par 71 course is a mecca for golfers from all over the UK. Stretching over 6,296 yards, it’s home to the famous ‘Big Dipper’ 15th hole, a 600-yard monster that kicks off what is widely regarded as one of the toughest finishes in the country.

With water hazards protecting the final three greens, it’s a course that rewards strategy and skill. And it has the accolades to prove it, consistently ranking as one of the best parkland courses in the region. Other than the fairways, the facilities are also top-tier, featuring a state-of-the-art swing studio, a 300-yard driving range and a pro shop stocked with the latest golfing gear.
