Make sure you pack your leggings because the gym at Moddershall Oaks is truly a sight to behold. Forget poky rooms with inevitable queues for the solitary treadmill - the MADE Wellness Centre feels more like a top-of-the-range boutique gym.

Found on the left as you drive into Moddershall Oaks, the stand-alone facility only opened in 2018 and offers a cycle cave, outdoor training terrace for bootcamp-style workouts and its own healthy café.

The state-of-the-art gym offers everything you can think of to work up a sweat in style. There’s a water rower, treadmills, cross trainer, stair climber, SPARC Machine, watt bike, kettlebells, barbells, dumbbells, cables weighted medicine balls, smith machine and more.

Need some extra motivation? Sign up for group class. They’re offered at a discounted rate if you’re here on a spa break, and there are so many to choose from. Find your zen with yoga or pilates, or try HIIT yoga fusion, a fat-burning, heartbeat-raising cardio mixed with mindfulness and flexibility. There’s also dance fit, a HIIT sculpt class or even a beast bootcamp that’s not for the faint-hearted.

If you prefer something more gentle, you can discover all the hidden beauty of the grounds with a wander along the woodland trail. Or take to two-wheels and watch the countryside whizz by from the saddle of one of the hotel’s complimentary bikes. There’s even a tennis court if you can muster up the energy for a game or two.

You’ve nurtured your mind and soul, now it’s time to nourish your body, and Moddershall Oaks has just the thing to help you do just that. 

Inside the spa reception you'll find a deli that serves homemade cakes, coffee and sandwiches, while the MADE cafe in the wellness centre is purely plant-based. The perfect way to kickstart your healthy new lifestyle, you’ll crunch your way through superfood salads loaded with seeds and veggies, acai berry smoothie bowls washed down with a great selection of herbal teas.

The main Oak House Restaurant offers a varied menu featuring dishes like tempura asparagus, beef roast with all the trimmings and classic fish and chips, eaten alongside stunning lakeside views.

But the best of it all has to be the stunning new Balcony Bar. Open daily from 12pm for nibbles or a light lunch, it’s the perfect place for crispy fried halloumi washed down with a mocktail or a bubblegum flavoured pina colada while watching the sun go down.

It does. Although the large outdoor hydrotherapy pool is the big draw, the indoor pool is 10m long and very serene and tranquil. Do some lengths then sit back on one of the heated stone loungers to dry off while reading your book.

Pack light because this spa retreat likes to keep things relaxed and casual. Expect your fellow spa-goers to be drifting around wrapped only in their snuggly robes, even at breakfast or lunch. If you’re here on a staycation, you will need to pack something for the evening though, as dining is smart/casual. 

There are just 10 modern bedrooms, each of which comes with underfloor heating, a seating area, ensuite bathrooms with gorgeous products, smart TV, fluffy spa robes and sliding doors that open onto a private terrace with views of the garden. Unlike day guests, overnight visitors have the luxury of a 30-minute slot in the private garden Jacuzzi – you can even book your slot at night to watch the stars.

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is at 11am. Some packages do allow you to use the spa facilities until 4.30pm on your day of departure, so check your booking to see if this is included.

Relax! Moddershall Oaks is all about helping you unwind. Enjoy the spa, or get out in nature because this really is an idyllic spot for a wellness getaway. Or head to the onsite wellness centre with its well-equipped gym downstairs as well as a spin room and room for yoga, kettlebell and HIIT classes upstairs.

No, it’s more of an adults-only retreat. There are children’s menus available in the restaurant, but the spa does not accommodate children under the age of 14 apart from in the Blush Lounge, and all guests aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
