Anyone who’s been through IVF will tell you that the treatment is stressful, invasive and it really takes it out of you. So it was great to read that Champneys are about to start offering spa breaks for hopeful mums-to-be.
The controversial IVF doctor, Mohamed Taranissi, is working with the spa to give his patients IVF appointments at Champneys in Tring, where he’ll be able to give them all the necessary blood tests and scans in comfort and relaxed surroundings rather than in a clinic. Of course, they also have the option of having relaxing treatments while they are there, and we all know that reducing our stress levels is a great way to boost the chances of getting pregnant.
Anyone who wants to have their tests carried out at Champneys won’t be under any obligation to stay over if they don’t want to, but naturally Champneys are making it lovely and easy to stay if you feel like it, with discounted deals on offer to women booking in for IVF tests at the same time.
The scheme, which will start in September, means that only the first and last IVF appointments will need to be carried out at Dr Taranissi’s clinic in London, and all the rest of the scans and tests are done in comfort in the Hertfordshire countryside.
It’s definitely an unusual idea but I can see the appeal. Would you combine fertility treatment (or any medical treatment that involved tests and scans) with a spa break, or do you think it’s a step too far? I’d love to know what you think.
