About

Wild ponies and wellbeing? You’ll find plenty of both at Balmer Lawn, a classic country house hotel nestled in the heart of the New Forest. Spend the day hiking leafy trails alongside free-roaming ponies (no, you can’t take one home with you). But when exploration turns to relaxation, there’s nothing better than slipping into the steamy embrace of a Finnish sauna at the hotel’s brand-new suite of state-of-the-art wellness facilities.

Fresh air, five-star pampering and a setting straight out of a fairytale - this is luxurious R&R like no other. Built in the 19th century, the handsome former hunting lodge is an iconic local landmark perched on top of the 500-acre Balmer lawn. But it's the New Forest Spa and Wellness Centre that really sets this hotel apart. Take a thermal journey through heat and ice, before melting into a mouthwatering ESPA ritual. Fairweather swimmers can make use of the heated outdoor pool from May to September, while indoors, the all-season 9-metre spa pool is framed by full-height windows offering verdant views over the garden.

Surrounded by ancient woodlands, and with scenic walking trails stretching in every direction, Balmer Lawn is a brilliant base for the outdoorsy. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming village of Brockenhurst, cycle along forest paths, or even saddle up for a horseback ride through one of England’s most picturesque national parks. If you fancy a day trip, nearby attractions include Beaulieu Motor Museum, Exbury Gardens and the charming Lyndhurst village.

When it’s time to wine and dine, you’re in for a treat. Balmer Lawn’s two-AA-rosette-winning Beresfords Restaurant showcases locally sourced, seasonal dishes, with a menu that evolves almost daily, ensuring every visit is fresh and exciting. Prefer something more laid-back? The Lodge Bar & Restaurant offers alfresco dining, perfect for soaking up the fresh forest air.

With food this tempting and surroundings this serene, you might find yourself reluctant to leave - and you don’t have to. Balmer Lawn boasts 54 elegant rooms, ranging from cosy standards to luxury suites, each designed for comfort and tranquillity. Whether you’re here for the flavours, the fresh air or the finest relaxation, Balmer Lawn ensures every moment is unforgettable.

The Spa & Wellness at Balmer Lawn Hotel & Spa

There’s no need to go forest bathing to truly unwind in this beautiful part of the UK. The newly-refurbished New Forest Spa & Wellness Centre at Balmer Lawn Hotel has transformed the hotel into a wellbeing destination that reflects all the beauty and calm of its woodland surroundings.

Begin your wellness journey with a dip in the indoor pool, before embarking on a fire and ice experience. Start at the steam room, where natural crystals add to the calming atmosphere. Then, let the Finnish sauna with its natural volcanic salt wall work its air-purifying magic, before you cool off in the invigorating ice room.

Next, experience the rainforest and monsoon showers, a multi-sensory water therapy designed to refresh and awaken. Then, sink into the cocooning comfort of one of six luxurious treatment rooms, including a dual suite that’s perfect for couples.

Every treatment here makes full use of top-notch ESPA products, harnessing the healing power of nature to restore harmony to body and mind. Whether it’s a glow-enhancing facial, tension-melting massage or a full-body ritual, you’ll leave feeling lighter, brighter and completely renewed.

Afterwards, unwind in the dedicated relaxation area, where you can snuggle up, snooze or just soak up the serenity. And if you’re visiting in the warmer months, the heated outdoor pool offers the perfect spot to bask in the sunshine.

The Gym & Fitness at Balmer Lawn Hotel & Spa

Ready to get active in the fresh forest air? Balmer Lawn Hotel offers fitness experiences with a scenic twist. There’s no gym on-site, but who needs a treadmill when you’ve got so many woodland trails to explore!

Step outside and immerse yourself in nature, with walking and cycling routes that wind through the New Forest’s breathtaking landscapes, right from the hotel’s front door. Whether you’re hiking hidden paths, spotting wild ponies or pedalling through leafy glades, every adventure here comes with a side order of some of the UK’s most stunning scenery.

Closer to home, the hotel’s garden area has a number of outdoor pursuits to try when the weather is warmer. Do some laps of the outdoor pool or whizz down the zipwire. At Balmer Lawn, fitness isn’t just about movement. It’s about connecting with nature, embracing the outdoors and feeling refreshed in every way.

My daughter and I visited to have a back massage each. Both were really brilliant, left feeling a huge relief of tension from my shoulders. Lively spa and a nice offering of teas.

We were lucky to have fabulous weather to also enjoy the outdoor pool. The spa is lovely and small but very well kitted out. Even if you don’t book lunch you can order on the day.

First visit to this hotel and it was wonderful from beginning to end. The gorgeous weather helped with our enjoyment of the lovely outdoor pool area, but if the weather had been inclement the indoor pool, gym and relaxation facilities were clean and comfortable. Staff were extremely friendly and professional and our treatments were expertly provided. A wonderful lunch at the hotel afterwards completed a perfect day. We will definitely return.
