About

Looking for the ultimate pampering treat? Venture up to the house on the hill. This stunning Grade II-listed, 17th century manor house sits in immaculate Italian-style gardens overlooking the Ribble Valley, Lancashire’s very own Garden of Eden. It’s the picture-perfect setting for dream-like stays and days of indulgence.

Beautifully boutique with just 30 rooms, accommodation is split between the three-storey, pale-brick manor house and its contemporary glass-and-brick extension. It’s a steep climb to get here, but you’ll be so glad you did - on clear days you can see the Blackpool Tower and the wild Fylde coastline.

Like to get out and about? Lace up your walking boots, because the Ribble Valley is famous for natural attractions like the Forest of Bowland, a protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s history in abundance here, too. Take the Tolkien Trail to explore Middle Earth, climb the steps of Clitheroe Castle, or visit Ribchester’s Roman Museum.

Prefer your therapy of the retail kind? Shop til you drop at some of Ribble Valley’s boutiques, markets and independent shops, found in picturesque towns like Clitheroe and Ribchester. And, while Stanley House may be tucked away in the countryside, the bright lights of Blackpool are just a short drive away.

But chances are, once you’ve sampled the spa at Stanley House, you won’t ever want to leave. Listed in the Times Ultimate 100 British Hotels and with a mantlepiece groaning with awards, it was designed by international spa consultant Neil Howard.

The epitome of luxury, the spa is the centrepiece of the hotel and offers a thermal bathing experience like no other. Flit between hydro-pool, sensation showers and the salt infusion room, but make time for the Finnish sauna - it has a rural view that will leave you speechless.

The Spa & Wellness at Stanley House Hotel and Spa

Discover a true haven of luxury as you embark on the perfect spa experience at Stanley House Hotel and Spa.

With its country-house-escape feel, you’ll find the spa in Woodlands, the hotel’s contemporary wing. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light and help to bring the outdoors in. Vistas of undulating hills and uninterrupted natural rural beauty encourage you to fully connect with the present moment. This is your time - to reconnect with friends, or gain a fresh perspective.

Wrap yourself in your soft robe and slippers and make a beeline for the thermal bathing suite. The attractive hydro-pool has two powerful swan jets, a long bubbly airbed and a stand-up whirlpool for massaging tired legs. Relax on a heated bed, taking time to gaze up at the twinkling ceiling lights.

Then it’s time to go on a thermal journal. First stop is the warm herbal sauna, the perfect place to purify body and mind. Feel your shoulders drop in the aromatic air of the aroma steam room, then breathe deeply in the salt infusion room, where a gentle, moist heat combines with bursts of sea salt infusions to enliven your senses.

Try to withstand the very hot Finnish sauna - the views through the full windows make it worth your while. Sensation showers offer cooling relief along with beautiful aromas and colour therapy.

You may feel relaxed now, but your deep-dive into euphoria continues. Six zen-like treatment rooms offer rituals from Natura Bissé and Temple Spa and many begin with a Sensory Welcome Touch to help you drift away.

Let your beauty shine through with prescriptive facials, or opt for a massage that nourishes both body and mind. Then float to the relaxation room for a delicious spa lunch.

The Gym & Fitness at Stanley House Hotel and Spa

Like a side order of wellness with your weekend away? Spa breaks at Stanley House are healthy too, thanks to all the fitness-fostering facilities on offer.

Found within the spa, the gym’s interior design mirrors its ‘country-house escape theme’ to perfection, with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the area with natural light.

There’s a range of cutting-edge cardiovascular and contemporary strength equipment to try, while panoramic views across the Ribble Valley countryside make any workout feel instantly more scenic and serene.

Ramble outdoors at your own pace on the hotel’s woodland walk. Or bring your bike and follow in the tyre tracks of Sir Bradley Wiggins on one of the many cycle routes on Stanley House’s doorstep.

Restaurants & Food at Stanley House Hotel and Spa

You’ve soaked in a sensational, award-winning spa. Now feast upon your favourite dishes in Fred’s Brasserie, a place where meals and memories are made.

Set in a bright, airy conservatory with views of the beautifully manicured courtyard and countryside beyond, this relaxed, all-glass restaurant also has a sun terrace - the perfect spot for sundowners on hazy summer days.

The emphasis here is on local, seasonal food cooked to perfection, thanks to the abundance of artisan cheesemakers, fishmongers and farms on the hotel’s doorstep.

A buffet breakfast is complemented by full English and cooked options. For lunch and dinner there’s generous portions of British classics, such as fish pie and fish and chips. Sunday lunches are also a treat, but the burgers here may just be the most flavoursome and scrumptious burger you've ever tasted.

My sister and I celebrated her 40th birthday by booking this spa experience. The event was well organised and we had a lovely time. Highlight of the day was the full body massage - Tina was amazing. A small negative was that the service in the restaurant although lovely, was unbelievably slow. Overall, I would recommend.
