The Lygon Arms - Puma Hotels' Collection is over 500 years old and one of the oldest hotels in England - but the facilities are totally up to date and the spa here is great if you fancy a pamper day or a longer break to recharge your batteries.
It's changed a bit since King Charles I used to stay here, and we doubt very much that he would have been in the market for an aromatherapy facial, but the sense of history pervades the hotel.
The Bodysense spa is thoroughly modern, with Dermalogica treatments, St Tropez tanning and Jessica nails.
The air conditioned gym, indoor pool and sauna/steam rooms are also top class...

Best Time Ever This was our fist spa day experience. Very enjoyable. Wonderful location in a beautiful village setting. Will do again. |

Lovely hotel, shabby spa Great venue, lovely rooms and restaurant (although heating not working in the Great Hall the weekend we visited in December!). Spa therapists were superb but no money is spent on the decor and it desperately needs a refurbishment! The floor is coming up around the pool and the roof leaks. Come on Barcelo; spend the money on this beautiful hotel in a fantastic location as the spa lets it down. |

Perfect Relaxing Day Lovely relaxing day, staff were very helpful and, once I had had a tour round, I was left alone to enjoy the facilities. Lunch was served on time and there was free coffee, tea and juices to help yourself to all day. My treatments were fabulous, very relaxing back massage and facial followed by some glamorous nails! Everything was very clean but some areas are in need of a little bit of decorating but this didn\'t detract from the overall day which was as it should be, quiet, relaxing and most enjoyable. |

Great treatments, facilities badly in need of makeover Set in the stunning Cotswolds, the Barcelo Lygon Arms Hotel and Spa, a five star establishment, promises a sparklingly luxurious day with five star facilities. Unfortunately, the spa changing room, showers and pool area are all badly in need of a makeover with peeling paint making the general atmosphere much drabber than the publicity pictures suggest. The hotel does say that renovations are currently taking place. The staff and therapists were friendly, discreet and very welcoming. The treatments were superb and the treatment rooms in great condition. The free lunch included in the ‘Treat Me Spa Day’ was delicious. All in all en enjoyable day, with great treatments but don\'t expect five star facilities. |

Friendly, but needs upgrade!!! Staff were very friendly, however, they could have been more proactive as I did have to ask lots of questions. It would have been good to have had a tour of facilities and where to go for lunch, treatments etc. as none of these were explained initially. When I did ask for help they were excellent and took me personally to places I needed to go rather than just giving directions. As I was visiting by myself, they were keen to check I was ok whilst I was in the spa but they weren\'t obtrusive. The Spa itself is in a dire need of a facelift. It was clean but there was a lot of peeling paint and general lack of upkeep. It’s a shame really because with a bit of investment this could be an amazing spa. I had 3 lovely treatments and my facial was the best I\'ve ever had. My skin felt amazing! I wouldn\'t recommend this spa for groups as it is very small but I had a lovely relaxing day. |

Enjoyable and a relaxing spa day The staff were friendly and approachable, the service good. The treatments were very relaxing, however was disappointed in the pedicure quick shape, polish nothing special. Overall the hotel facilities were good, clean and tidy but the steam room and shower cubicles were a bit grubby. Was disappointed had to purchase a drink from the bar to accompany the complimentary lunch. |

Good value, relaxed atmosphere The treatments were great and staff friendly and charming. The lunch was minimal; just a small bowl of soup and very small piece of bread, healthy but hardly lunch! The pool area was un-crowded and the Jacuzzi a perfect temperature. I spent the day with a friend I had not seen for some time and we were able to relax between treatments and catch up on our news. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day. |

Stunning stay A spectacular hotel in every respect with stunning architecture and clean, luxurious, classic, rooms. Wonderful staff, perfect treatments, divine dining, relaxed atmosphere. Impeccable room (we were upgraded to a suite without asking. Thanks!). Drinks at the bar and at the meal were astronomically priced, which was the only drawback in an otherwise perfect weekend. Will recommend to others, and will hopefully return. Many thanks. |

One of the best I\'ve been to Second spa day here, quality of treatments and staff performing treatments are excellent. Let down slightly by the spa/leisure area reception staff who didn\'t show us where anything was or explain the order of the day to us. Disappointed that the Jacuzzi wasn\'t working; wasn\'t informed on arrival, again staff didn\'t seem particularly bothered about trying to fix it. I was pretty unlucky in that a man walked into the treatment room during my massage and someone was drilling below the treatment room during my facial! Not the most relaxing, hence why I haven\'t given 5/5. For the quality of treatments alone I would return but would expect better service from this 5 star hotel. |

Wonderful staff, shame about the spa\'s condition We had the ‘Mother & Daughter Pamperday’. The plusses were that the spa staff were very friendly and the treatments were exceptional. The actual treatment rooms were very acceptable. We were greeted with a smile and our lockers with robes, slippers etc had already been organised, which was a lovely touch. The big negative is that the spa is very tired looking. It’s had five owners in as many years and its due for a face lift very soon and it desperately needs it. The pool was lovely but the changing rooms are smelly, the showers have mould in them and things like the liquid soap and hairdryer don\'t work. Our light lunch was nice. In conclusion, wonderful spa staff that made such a difference to the day, in need of investment to bring the spa to the level that would be expected. |
