    A wondrous weekend treat
The day was a special treat for both myself and my daughter, Rebecca.  Walton Hall is a beautiful old hall and is located in the middle of the countryside. It could be quite difficult to find if you don't know the area, but I always think that find the place is part of the days adventure!  It is a spectacular drive up to the building, but the beauty/leisure centre is in a separate, newer part of the building.  We were welcomed warmly and made to feel that we should enjoy our day. We spent an hour in the gym which was basic, but enough for our hours training. We then went into the swimming pool for another hour. It was fairly busy with families spending time with their children, but I suspect it was the time of year (end of May).  After that, we decided to go for our lunch. We were given our voucher and walked across the garden courtyard. The girl behind the bar was looking quite stressed and we had a short wait before our order for drinks and lunch was taken. The lunch was delicious.  After lunch we had what we had been waiting for, ie our 3 treatments. I started with a neck, back and shoulder massage which seemed to be endless. The music was calm and the room was clean. The masseuse was delightful and made me feel extremely relaxed. Following the massage was a fantastic facial treatment which lasted even longer than the massage. I was so at home and at peace, I wished this could go on for ever, but eventually it had to come to an end. I felt fantastic, although my hair was a little out of sorts following the band which had been placed tightly around my forehead to keep my hair from flopping onto my face!!  Our final treatment was a choice of either a manicure or pedicure.  Having had neither before, I decided on the manicure as I felt my hands would be noticed more than my feet. I thought the therapist would never make my nails look lovely as I have ridges across both my thumb nails which are quite deep. The young lady was lovely and looked immaculate herself.  'Don't worry' she said, I'll have them looking fabulous.  And she did.  Both Rebecca and I felt thoroughly pampered and would love to do it all over again. The only thing I think we forgot was to stop a little longer for afternoon tea in the main building. That would have topped our day.  Never mind . next time.  My only negative comment is that perhaps the swimming pool changing room could be more spacious and that all the lockers had keys that worked. One good thing is that since my manicure, I have ensured my nails are filed neatly at all times so far, so good!

    Dissapointing spa expereince
Having booked the spa for myself and my boyfriend as a celebration of our engagement, we were giddy with excitement and anticiaption of our Lovers Pamperday at Walton Hall. The driveway was impressive and led to the equally impressive Walton Hall, sadly around back was the main hotel and leisure club where our special day would be held. We we greeted like anyone off the street, and not a couple who had paid £200 for the day. The changing rooms were shabby with broken lockers (not big enough for your bags girls, just a handbag!) The pool area was nothing special with a flaky ceiling and mouldy window frames and the old and tired sauna and steam rooms. There was merely a step of tiles in the corner where I am reliably informed the spa bath once stood. The treatment rooms and the spa staff however, were delightful and went someway in salvaging our day.
