I recently went down to Sussex and spent the day at the Felbridge Hotel Chakra Spa in East Grinstead. Normally, I’d just have driven there but to cut a long story short, the car was out of action, I was staying with friends in Suffolk and I thought it would be easy peasy just to get down there on the train. No horrid Monday morning M25, I could just sit on a train and watch the world go by.
Hmm. That was what you might call a FAIL. Do you know, the recommended journey from Suffolk to East Grinstead took in a total of FOUR train journeys? I travelled through Stratford station for the first time ever and I wonder quite how the people who arrive here from foreign countries for the Olympics are going to manage to navigate the place because I’m used to London Underground and the railways in general but even I had to ask someone how on earth I got to London Bridge from Stratford!
So it’s fair to say I was a tad stressed when I arrived at the spa. Luckily, everyone was lovely and they took me straight through for a chill out in the pool area, complete with small pool, Jacuzzi, steam, sauna and loungers. I relaxed a bit while I was there (could have done with some hydrotherapy jets to release a bit of tension though). It wasn’t long before I was taken through for a delicious lunch and I admit to a crafty glass of house white too.
I really needed the spa treatment that afternoon – and Felbridge therapist Leah came up trumps with an Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual, where I was massaged from head to toe and given a sublime luxury facial. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay as long as I would have liked as I had to get another train home…and wouldn’t you know it, that journey was just as traumatic with delays and cancellations in my way! I was just glad I’d had my pamper day to keep the stress levels down. Let the train take the strain? Hmph!
