I’m lucky enough to live pretty close to London, and every now and again I get the urge to spend a proper girly spa weekend there. I love the shopping, the night life, the culture…and the spas! London’s going to be such a cool place to be this summer, with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, and of course the 2012 Olympics, I can foresee myself spending a fair amount of time in the Big Smoke.
Next weekend, we’re letting Sofia spend some time with her grandma and granddad, and I’m treating The Man to a show in the West End (We Will Rock You – he’s a not-so-secret Queen fan) and it got me thinking about some of my favourite spas and hotel spas in London.
My last spa trip was to the fabulous London Marriott County Hall Hotel Spa, and I’d love to go back there again now the weather’s better. The sun streaming through the glass and shimmering on the pool will be beautiful. Although last time the winter sunshine was breaking through and a combination of that and the superb massage I had tempted me into swimming too many lengths of said pool which left me really sore! Note to self: my fitness levels clearly need work.
The first spa I ever went to, back in 2000 (yes I really have been writing about spas that long) was in London. It was The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, and I was instantly hooked. The feel of a spa, the smells, the calm and relaxed atmosphere…I knew it was where I felt at home. Covent Garden is one of my favourite places in the UK, anyway. You know there are some places you could just spend all day wandering around and drinking up the atmosphere? Well, that’s Covent Garden for me. I also have a soft spot for York, Brighton and Chichester.
The Sanctuary is still one of the most popular London spas, and I still remember my first ever spa trip so vividly…can you remember your first ever spa day? Where did you go? When was it?
