The three big beauty trends for next season (yes, we’re talking spring 2013) will be pale, matte skin, 3D nail effects and big, strong defined eyebrows, according to the experts who know all about these things.
Evidence from the catwalks of New York is that nail art will be MASSIVE in 2013, possibly influenced by the proliferation of funky nails at London 2012, but the effects were subtle and clever with a tiered effect at Diego Binetti using three different coloured nails layered with beads to get a stunning 3D effect. CND also went for textures with a basket weave effect nail.
A pale, matte skin turned the face into a canvas for eyes, brows and lips, with Donna Karan using a pale face to showcase a bright purple lid and pink mascara. Other looks used pale faced models with stunning, standout lip colour that would look out of place on a more dewy complexion. The old adage about one or the other still seems to hold true though – if you’re going to go large on the eye colour, tone down the lips and vice versa!
Don’t even think about over-plucking your eyebrows in 2013; the bigger the better as far as brows are concerned. Marc Jacobs worked the trend with dark, pencilled in eyebrows which dominated the models’ face completely.
I love the nail trends and I’m madly trying to grow mine out so that I can make them look pretty with some gorgeous nail art. I’m also ahead of the trend with the pale faced look as I’m naturally blessed with a pale complexion. I’m not sure the world is quite ready for me working a ‘statement’ pink and purple bright-eyed look yet though…
