About

Can’t decide between a chic coastal spa or a fabulous country retreat? At the Netherwood Hotel & Spa there’s no need to choose. Just a mile from the edge of the Lake District, this Victorian mansion nestles in one of the most scenic spots in the entire country and has the stunning Lake Windermere on its doorstep. But because it’s set in the elegant resort town of Grange-over-Sands, it comes complete with breathtaking sea views over Morecambe Bay and plenty of seaside charm.

The relaxation begins before you even get through the front door. This Victorian Grade-II mansion nestles in 15 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens. All the natural beauty and period architecture will take your breath (and your stress) away. Care to come in? You’ll find hand-carved oak panelling and stained glass windows, along with cosy lounges filled with Chesterfield sofas and elegant wing-backed armchairs to curl up in.

Take a long walk along the iconic promenade during your time here, and head into the charming town of Grange-over-Sands for some well-deserved retail therapy among the independent stores. Explore the history of Holker Hall and the fascinating Cartmel Medieval Village Priory. You’re so close to the dramatic Lake District here, so don’t miss out on one of the most beautiful national parks in the whole of the UK.

But our guess is you won’t be able to tear yourself away from all that’s on offer at Netherwood. Stop the world and get off for an hour or two in Netherwood’s spa with its three zen-like treatment rooms, suite of thermal facilities and menu of soul-soothing Elemis rituals.

Keep the bliss going long into the evening with a sumptuous dinner in the Dining Room before floating off to bed in one of 33 individually styled rooms filled with luxe touches.

Results-driven Elemis facials, restorative massages and beauty treats are there to rejuvenate your skin, nails and your joie de vivre. Here with someone special? Book into a couple’s room for a romantic massage for two.

Wind the day off with a visit to the relaxing Snug Room. Nestle into a comfortable lounger in this chilled-out haven within a haven. Have a snooze, sip on an organic infusion tea or celebrate with a glass of Prosecco. Decadence, guaranteed!

The Gym & Fitness at Netherwood Hotel & Spa

A spa break to Netherwood Hotel & Spa doesn’t mean you have to press pause on your fitness plans. Pack your activewear and trainers because its sleek, contemporary gym is crammed full of everything you need for a top to toe workout.

Sweat it out on the cross trainers or rowing machines or go for a personal best on the treadmills and stationary bikes. There’s also a selection of weights so you can really feel the burn.

Not a gym lover? We hear you. Work out in the sunshine with a power-walk or jog along the promenade into Grange-over-Sands. The hotel backs onto Brown Robin Nature Reserve, an atmospheric patch of woodland known for its wildlife and birdsong.

Because the hotel’s in such close proximity to the Lake District, longer hikes abound. Lace up your boots for a relaxing ramble around Windermere. Just a 15-minute drive away, England’s largest natural lake has a web of superb lakeside and woodland trails that take you to viewpoints of awe-inspiring magnificence.

That’s easy - the homemade sticky toffee pudding is not to be missed!

Have to admit, I did miss there being a pool - but then, I knew there wasn't one. The changing room was very small and no private space to get changed. The staff were lovely. One of the rooms wasn't working, which was a pity. Showers were hot but again, no privacy screen.
