About

To be or not to be… thoroughly spoiled? That is the question at the delightfully Shakespearean Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel. Just a short walk from the birthplace of the Bard in picturesque Stratford-Upon-Avon, this Tudor mansion’s history is intertwined with that of the playwright himself. Its glorious gardens were said to have played host to one of the first performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. And with such fabulous leisure facilities on offer, it’s the perfect spot for creating a Midsummer (or mid-winter!)’s Night Dream of your own.

If it’s quintessential English charm you seek, you’ll find it in abundance here. Nestled between the pages of history and the poetry of Warwickshire nature, the red-brick Alveston Manor sits in gorgeous grounds and has many of its period features intact - think timbered beams, oak panelling and beautiful stained glass. Guests can indulge in a spot of afternoon tea on the lawns, unwind with a cocktail in front of a crackling log fire, or go for a delectable dinner of classic British cuisine at the Manor Restaurant.

Everything that Stratford-on-Avon has to offer is within walking distance, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Take a lovely long stroll along the banks of the River Avon, enjoy a meander around the shops or go back in time at the fabulous Warwick Castle. Fancy travelling further afield? There are some quaint Cotswolds villages within easy reach from here.

Sporty type? State-of-the-art fitness facilities are there if you want them. But if total relaxation is your aim, you’ll love the contemporary facilities on offer in the spa. Enjoy a swim with garden views. Take a deep breath and drop your shoulders in the sauna and steam room. Succumb to the restorative powers of a therapeutic Elemis ritual in one of six exquisite treatment rooms. Then, when night falls you can sleep, perchance to dream, in one of Alveston Manor’s 113 supremely comfy bedrooms.

Please note: this hotel operates a cashless system.

The Spa & Wellness at Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel

Tiptoe through gorgeous gardens and into Alveston Manor’s sumptuous spa. It’s the perfect location to soothe your soul, rejuvenate your senses and let your worries drift away. Whether you’re spending some quality time with the girls, want an intimate Warwickshire spa break with someone special, or you’re after a little magical me-time, you can feed your need right here, in this serene and tranquil cocoon.

While the hotel may be elegantly Elizabethan, the spa at Macdonald Alveston Manor is a cool and contemporary addition. Its design nods to many of the main property's 16th-century features, but inside it's all an ultra modern wellness experience, from the daylight-flooded 18-metre pool, to the gym, sauna and steam room and state-of-the-art fitness suite.

Change into your soft robe, then pad in your fluffy slippers to the warm water of the swimming pool. Do some laps and flit between the dry heat of the sauna and the complete humidity of the steam room.

Then it’s time to dive deeper into euphoria with an Elemis treatment designed to reconnect your body, mind and soul. Here in the zen-like treatment rooms, therapists help you find the ritual that best suits your needs, then apply their knot-untying know-how to really lift your spirits.

Our favourite? The heavenly Body Nectar Nourish Wrap. Lay back and relax amid the scent of aromatic oils while you’re wrapped in a cocoon of towels like a very relaxed mummy.. Enjoy a scalp massage and let the oils work their hydrating magic.

The Gym & Fitness at Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel

Work out, stretch out, chill out, because Alveston Manor Hotel has first-class facilities designed to help you reach your fitness goals.

First stop, the well-equipped gym which is packed full of the very latest Life equipment. Use the weights to tone or hit the cardio machines to work up a sweat - there’s always the 18m pool and thermal suite to relax in afterwards.

If the gym’s not your style, there are many lovely walks to be had in the local area. Enjoy a stroll on the banks of the picturesque River Avon, or work your shoulders by taking a rowing boat out onto the water - they’re all named after Shakespearean characters so you can pick your favourite.

Prefer to stretch your legs in the countryside? Head for the Welcombe Hills. Just minutes by car, or a half an hour’s walk, this wonderful local nature reserve lets you roam through grassland and woodland. The perfect way to work up an appetite!

Restaurants & Food at Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel

The best bit about an indulgent spa break? Glamming up for a bit of indulgent eating and drinking. And If all that unwinding has made you hungry, you’re in for a treat at Alveston Manor. With intimate spaces and diverse options to match your mood, you’ll find the perfect option to crush any craving, here in the heart of Shakespeare country.

Blue Lounge

Your glamorous night begins with an aperitif beside the crackling fire in the Blue Lounge. Choose a cocktail created with Shakespeare gin, then settle into a comfy chair and admire your elegant, oak-panelled surroundings. If you like, you can select something to nibble on from the bar menu.

Manor Bar

Delightfully informal yet bursting with character, Alveston Manor's split-level Manor Bar has an impressive stone fireplace with a roaring fire in cooler months. Soft natural light filters through mullioned windows onto comfortable cushioned sofas. So sink back in a squashy armchair and sip on a 20-year-old malt whisky, a cocktail or just a coffee while gazing out over the lovely cedar lawn

Manor Restaurant

Spa breaks were made for fine conversation with good friends over a hearty meal - and the splendid Manor Restaurant lets you do just that. Choose from a menu of British cuisine (including a very popular fish and chips) and enjoy the restaurant's attractive period features, such as beautiful oak beams and mullioned windows.

Overall a relaxing stay. We booked a one night stay which included dinner, bed & breakfast with a 25 minute spa treatment. We opted for a back massage which was lovely. The swimming pool / steam room is in need of a desperate update. Tiles broken/missing. Shower heads full of lime scale. The pool was also cold. The spa treatment rooms were nice. All staff were lovely & the products were wonderful. Hotel room was a nice surprise. The beds are super comfy. The carpets & halls leading to the rooms were dyer. Part of the package including a bottle of Prosecco which was on ice. Dinner was amazing. We had a 3 course meal & only had to pay for extras which was not needed. Breakfast was great too. Included was a full Scottish breakfast & you can help yourself to pastries, cereals, etc. Parking was also included with the spa break. Being so close to Stratford upon Avon centre we walked into town Sunday evening & Monday morning. I would give the hotel 7/10.

I don't usually fill in reviews or questionnaires, however, I have to give credit where credit is due. I couldn't fault any part of my day. Even the swimming pool was virtually empty.

Served on the lawns in the summer months, or beside a crackling log fire in the Blue Lounge or Manor Bar when it’s chilly, the afternoon teas here change with the season. Don’t miss the festive-themed nibbles and scrumptious spiced cake in the run-up to Christmas.
