About

Experience the finer things in life at Fishmore Hall. From the stylish eco spa to the acclaimed cuisine, this Shropshire country retreat has the effortlessly chic feel of a boutique hotel, making it the perfect location for a glam getaway.

Once a noble residence then a school for naughty boys, the handsome Georgian house was virtually derelict before a restoration brought its historic features back to their best. But don’t be fooled by Fishmore Hall’s grand good looks - the ambience inside is laid-back, relaxed and decidedly unstuffy.

Surrounded by sheep-speckled fields, you’ll find this three red star AA-rated hotel nestled on the outskirts of Ludlow. One of the UK’s most romantic market towns, Ludlow’s a famous foraging ground for foodies, thanks to an abundance of artisan producers, independent shops and a yearly festival dedicated to all-things edible.

Just half an hour from Shrewsbury, near the Welsh border, the countryside town has a lot to offer, including long walks in the breath-taking Shropshire Hills. Ludlow Castle is so close to Fishmore you can even catch glimpses of its romantic towers in the distance, so be sure to explore its fascinating history for yourself. Enjoy some high end retail therapy in the centre of Ludlow, while the scenic Downton Gorge National Nature Reserve also deserves its place on your must-visit list.

Overnight stays are particularly blissful at Fishmore Hall, thanks to 15 sumptuous bedrooms crammed with luxurious touches - Elemis toiletries, snuggly bathrobes, mini bars stocked with local goodies and homemade biscuits on request. You can even order from a pillow menu to ensure a great night’s sleep.

But don’t drift off just yet. The eco spa has four peaceful treatment rooms to savour, along with an outdoor cedar wellness pool, for a relaxing plunge while you gaze out at the Shropshire hills.

The indulgence continues into the night at Forelles, Fishmore Hall’s three AA rosette-winning restaurants. The cuisine here is magnificent, with a tempting tasting menu that wins rave reviews, even in a town already famed for its outstanding cuisine.

The Spa & Wellness at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa

Step into Fishmore Hall’s unique modular eco spa to indulge your senses in truly tranquil surroundings. At SPAshell, it’s all about giving you the space to be you.

Nestled in the garden of this fine Shropshire property, nature abounds - from the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows to the natural style touches.

Prepare your senses for indulgence with an abundance of facilities to refresh, rejuvenate and restore your inner calm. With a chic Scandi style, relaxation comes in the form of the outdoor cedar hot tub. Plunge into the bubbly water and gaze out at the mesmerising view of the countryside beyond. You’re sheltered from any onlookers, but you might see a friendly cow or two as you bathe.

Find tranquility in the oversize hammock on the decking, perfect for a post-massage slumber or a snooze in the open air. Sink into the steam room and saunas, then cool off at the monsoon drench shower.

Then it’s time to rediscover the revitalising pleasure of a massage or facial. The rituals here are designed to rebalance and refresh both body and mind, with facial and body treatments by Elemis, and Jessica providing the perfect finishing touches. .

But must-try at Fishmore Hall’s SPAshell is the Lava Shell massage.Using the world’s first self-heating massage tool, these clever shapes become an extension of the therapist’s hands, for a deeply therapeutic ritual that feels almost magical.

The Gym & Fitness at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa

There’s no gym at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be getting plenty of exercise.

Nordic Walking is a favourite pastime here, but if you don’t know one end of your stick from the other, try a guided walk in the beautiful Mortimer Forest, just a five-minutes drive away. Suitable for all ages and abilities, qualified instructors are on-hand to get you up to speed, and they’ll even provide you with the poles.

Ludlow is surrounded by countryside which makes it ideal for long hikes and bike rides. Ask at reception about bike hire, then take one of the four cycle rides in and around Ludlow. Want a real two-wheeled challenge? Head to Bishop Castle to attempt the Long Mynd climb.

Gym bunny? Teme Leisure is just a short drive from the hotel and has a large air conditioned, 55-station gym, two studios for classes and a 25m, six-lane swimming pool. And when you return to your utopian hotel, you can relax in style in the delicious sauna.

Restaurants & Food at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa

Ludlow is known as a foodie town and the Fishmore Hall certainly confirms that reputation. The hotel’s restaurant, Forelles, features the very best of Shropshire dining served in elegant surroundings.

You’ll be in the capable hands of head chef Phil Kerry, who aims to source ingredients from within a 30-mile radius of the hotel. They make an exception for fish and seafood (they are landlocked, after all) which come from the Isle of Skye and Brixham.

Choose from two tempting menus. You could go a la Carte, but it would be a crime to miss out on the famous tasting menu. As plate after plate of fine cuisine reaches your table, you’ll feel like a judge on an episode in the final of MasterChef. This is a restaurant to boast about afterwards.

Don't fancy something fancy? There’s also a more relaxed, but equally wonderful, brasserie, where you can choose from small plates, sharing boards, sandwiches and burgers.

A small spa next to the Hotel. I had a lovely back massage followed by a facial. The masseuse was very professional. I used the steam room, the outdoor Jacuzzi and the showers. We then had afternoon tea in the hotel itself which to my mind was very small.

We arrived at 10:30am and were shown around the spa it is a small facility but extremely friendly and was lovely for the morning we used the sauna and the outside hot tub and were offered drinks so we had hot chocolates whilst we were in there. We then had a full body massage which was fantastic and followed this up with Sunday lunch in the restaurant it was a thoroughly enjoyable morning .

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa do afternoon tea?

It sure does. In fact, if you’re here on a spa package that includes afternoon tea, you’re in for a treat. The town of Ludlow is a foodie mecca, so the hotel has some seriously good competition on its doorstep, yet you won’t get in without a booking.

Served in the elegant restaurant or lounge with superb views of the Shropshire countryside, afternoon teas here offer a twist on the traditional. Indulge in savoury delicacies such as nduja sausage rolls, then try some carefully-crafted patisserie, such as beautiful salted caramel and praline choux buns and delicate rhubarb and custard macarons.

It’s all accompanied by a selection of fine teas, coffees or perhaps something a little more sparkly. Our advice? The Hibiscus Champagne Cocktail is not to be missed.

Does Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa have a swimming pool?

No there’s no swimming pool, but there is a sauna, steam room, hot tub and experience shower. Can’t live without your laps? Teme Leisure has a 25m, six-lane swimming pool and it’s just a three minute drive away.

What facilities are on offer in the spa at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa?

Fishmore Hall’s SPAShell is a unique concept for luxury hotels. Its eco-friendly modular pod design was created off-site, then transported to the hotel and installed ready-made.

Within it you’ll find a cedar hot tub overlooking the fields, an oversize hammock on the decking, four treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna and a monsoon drench shower.

What is the accommodation like at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa?

It’s chic and boutique. There are 15 individually-styled bedrooms, ranging from standard, superior and executive through to the two, highly sought-after luxury rooms. Both are spacious and have magical views, but if you’re after something extra special choose the room where the bath takes centre stage.

Where is Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa?

You’ll find Fishmore Hall in the Shropshire countryside, near the border with Wales. It’s on the outskirts of the charming market town of Ludlow, famous for its food festival, fascinating antique shops, celebrated restaurants and historic castle. While you’re here on your spa break, taking a stroll among the Elizabethan buildings and quaint market squares is a must.

What time is check-in and check-out at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa?

If you’re here on an overnight stay, you can check in to the hotel anytime from 3pm, while check out is at 11am. For spa days, check-in time is generally at 10am, but do check your booking confirmation.

Is there a dress code at Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa?

Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa has an unstuffy, relaxed ambience and there is no formal dress code as such. However, its fine dining restaurant is an elegant affair - foodies flock from far and wide to sample the tasting menu. Go for smart/casual and you won’t look out of place.

Is Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa family friendly?

Children of all ages are welcome at the Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa. The Superior Suite on the ground floor has space for two z-beds and a cot. Cots are free of charge, but there is an extra charge for children.

Children are welcome in Forelles, the hotel’s restaurant, but a word of warning! There are no children’s menus or portion sizes here, and the food is quite fancy so it’s probably not ideal for picky eaters. There’s a bistro on-site that’s more relaxed.

There’s no swimming pool, and under 16s aren’t allowed in the spa, but Ludlow itself is a great spot for family getaways. Little explorers will love Ludlow Castle, one of the finest mediaeval ruins in the UK, or head to the Ludlow Farmshop with its outdoor play area, foodie treats and ice cream cabin.

While it’s not that easy for little legs to walk into town from the hotel, it’s only a short drive away, or the hotel can pre-book you a taxi.

Is Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa dog-friendly?

If leaving your dog at home would put a dampener on your relaxing spa break, you’re in luck. Fishmore Hall is not just dog-friendly, it has lots of ways to make tails wag on arrival. Not only will your best friend get their own bowl, there are miles of Shropshire Hills just waiting to be explored.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes can stay for £30 and are welcome into the bar area for breakfast and evening meals, but they’re not allowed in the restaurant.

Is Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa accessible?

Very. There’s a lift, easy access for wheelchairs, and a ground floor room with external access that has its own private lounge area.

The ground floor room is accessed separately to the main front door  and has been specially adapted to include grip rails and a large walk-in wet room.

Does Fishmore Hall Hotel & Boutique Spa have a golf course?

Prefer afternoon tee to afternoon tea? We hear you. There’s no golf course at Fishmore Hall Hotel, but there is a way to keep your game on-course. Swing by Ludlow Golf Course - it’s just a six-minute drive away and has a unique design around the famous Ludlow Racecourse. It’s almost totally flat but that doesn’t make it easy - two reservoirs are a real challenge.
