About

Do you like to spa beside the seaside? We don’t blame you. There really is no better combination than a luxurious spa hotel overlooking golden sands, surrounded by ocean views. And, perfectly positioned on the water’s edge of Christchurch’s natural harbour, just minutes from the beach, this namesake hotel and spa makes the ideal retreat for some nautical-themed R&R.

A frequent feature on many a ‘best hotels in Dorset’ list, the 1930s property is sleek and stylish, boasting a seaside palette of contemporary ocean blues. Tempted to turn your spa day into a spa stay? Many of the 67 smart bedrooms boast views across the harbour, but all come with little luxuries like Egyptian cotton sheets, Nespresso coffee machines and even your own decanter of gin for those in-room post-spa g and t’s.

Serious foodies make a beeline to the hotel’s destination restaurant, The Jetty, for the freshest catch of the day. Or there’s the Upper Deck restaurant with its al fresco terrace serving traditional and modern favourites. Both are overseen by award-winning chef patron, Alex Aitkin, who held a Michelin star at Le Poussin.

If you can bear to leave the hotel, fantastic day trips abound. The historic town of Christchurch is right on the hotel’s doorstep, or catch the Mudeford Ferry to Hengistbury Head, a local nature reserve and internationally significant archaeological site. The hotel is also within easy reach of the natural splendour that is the New Forest, while the bright lights of Bournemouth are also just a short drive away.

Harbour Hotel Christchurch offers complimentary use of paddle boards and kayaks for fun in the water on warm summer days. But if the weather’s not playing ball, rest assured that its sumptuously subterranean HarSPA awaits, with a 15m indoor pool, whirlpool tubs and a full menu of Temple Spa treatments.

Restaurants & Food at Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa

Harbour Hotel Christchurch is a destination for foodies. Its reputation is all thanks to multi-award-winning chef patron, Alex Aitken. With 40 years in the business, having opened his first restaurant, Le Poussin, in 1983, this charismatic chef’s culinary journey began on the seas, where he worked as a trawlerman, giving him unparalleled knowledge of how to make the most of the ocean’s bounty.

His locally sourced sustainable food wins rave reviews, and you can enjoy it at both of the hotel’s two restaurants.

The Jetty

This multi-award-winning restaurant specialises in seafood, caught daily by local fisherman, served with locally-grown, seasonal ingredients from the New Forest and paired with an eclectic selection of wines.

The Upper Deck

The casual, relaxed restaurant with its alfresco terrace has stunning views across Christchurch Harbour. It serves up traditional and modern favourites from Britain and around the world, all expertly cooked using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients.

My spa afternoon with a hot stones and Himalayan salts massage was so relaxing and just what I needed. I started my afternoon in the gym, next my massage, then showered and changed for a swim, the water was cooler than expected😬. Next I went into the steam room to warm up, followed by the salt room and sauna, finally the Jacuzzi. Bliss.😌

Starting on arrival at the hotel, the staff were welcoming, helpful and happy. The spa was lovely, very clean facilities, the staff at reception helpful and very welcoming. We constantly saw cleaners who kept the spa and changing rooms clean and tidy. The treatments my friend and I received were one of the best ever. It was a bit of a pain to have to change into clothes for lunch, oh but so well worth it, the views and the food were outstanding. If I needed to find any fault it would be the changing room facilities are a bit small. Needless to say we will revisit.

Great spa experience. Friendly staff. We used the Relaxing room with teas and coffees, as there was a water aerobic class booked for the same morning. Clean rooms. Wish there were more showers and changing rooms. Pool clean and on the cool side. Hot tub was good, but neck spa was not working. Sauna, steam room and salt grotto were good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?

Yes it does. And is there anything nicer than afternoon tea beside the sea? Expect all the usual fare of dainty sandwiches, dinky patisserie and warm, crumbly scones, served with something warm and aromatic (or altogether more sparkly). You’ll even find some themed afternoon teas that change with the seasons, like the summertime seaside special with its cute candy floss cupcakes, beach hut-shaped shortbreads and crab mayo sandwiches.

Does the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa have a swimming pool?

If taking a dip in a tranquil, azure rectangle is a true spa essential for you, you’re in luck. The Harbour Hotel Christchurch has a fantastic 15m swimming pool with ambient lighting that just adds to the serenity. Kick-back, do some leisurely lengths or just lounge beside it, then head to the bubbling hydrotherapy pool for a comforting soak.

Does the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa have accommodation?

Yes it does. Should you decide to extend your pamper package to an overnight stay, you’ll find 67 bedrooms, many with great views over the harbour and some deluxe rooms have their own balconies to help you soak up all that vitamin sea.

The Harbour Hotel Christchurch knows exactly how to look after their guests. All room categories boast luxurious touches like top-of-the-range toiletries, Nespresso coffee machines, a decanter of gin and Egyptian cotton sheets. Expect a seaside vibe in the decor, a muted nautical palette with dashes of vibrant yellow.

What are the check-in and check-out times at Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa?

Here for a full or half-day spa package? Lucky you! Arrival times are generally 9am or 2pm, but do check your booking confirmation as times can vary. For overnight stays, check-in time is from 3pm and check-out time is by 11am, with late check-outs subject to availability on the day

Is Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is. There are some steps to navigate to get to the spa, but there are ground level entrances and lifts throughout the hotel. You’ll also find accessible rooms with wet-room style bathrooms and grab rails.

What spa facilities are on offer at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa?

Alongside the heated swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool you’ll find a sauna, steam room, salt room, relaxation room and outdoor terrace plus a fully equipped gym. The spa also features five tranquil treatment rooms.

Does the Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa have a dress code?

Not as such, but you might feel more comfortable in smart casual clothing at both the Jetty and the Upper Deck. Both restaurants say no to flip flops, trainers, vests or ripped jeans.

Is Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Fabulously so! While children under 16 can’t use the thermal facilities or gym, mini hotel guests can splash in the swimming pool daily between 8am and 9pm and 4pm to 5pm. They can also use the relaxation areas.

Children are well-catered for in both restaurants where they’ll find a menu created just for them. There are generously-sized family rooms with a double bed in the master bedroom, two single beds in a connected bedroom and a shared bathroom.

There’s plenty to keep them entertained, too, with complimentary paddle boards and kayaks on offer in the summer months.

Is Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa dog-friendly?

While dogs aren’t allowed to stay overnight (with the exception of service dogs), your furry friend can sit with you on the al fresco terrace at the Jetty restaurant.

Does Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa have a golf course?

While there isn’t a golf course on-site, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pack your clubs. The hotel is surrounded by several great courses, including heathland courses in the New Forest and fairways overlooking the beach. Nearest of them all is Highcliffe Castle Golf Club, an 18-hole course set across 50 acres of parkland.
