I love the sun-kissed look, but given that I’m blessed with skin that burns as soon as the red-tops print the headline ‘Phew what a scorcher’ it’s something I have to live without unless I feel like investing in a fake spa tan. Continue reading →
I love a success story – especially if it’s spa related, so I was really pleased to hear that the MD of the Chill Out Spa in Knowsley, Sharon Carroll, has just won the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the 2011 Merseyside Women of the Year Awards. Continue reading →
If you like to take your spa breaks with some activity – maybe you feel a bit sporty or just love the countryside, you probably know about Aqua Sana spas at Center Parcs. Lots of my friends have visited one or more of the Center Parcs resorts and I’m sorely tempted to see if I can wangle a visit with Sophia and my beloved, especially as they’ve been doing something pretty special lately. Why do you book a spa day? I know that for me it’s all about the relaxation, the ambience, the chance to get away from it all. The treatments are a massive part of that, being massaged, pampered, the lovely aromatherapy scents, it’s all just a little bit blissful. Continue reading →
It’s true – men really are getting on-trend and getting into the spa thing. Although the chances of me ever getting my beloved to agree to a fish pedicure are about as likely as me being able to work out the instructions on a flat-pack wardrobe, I think he’s secretly quite intrigued with all the lotions and potions I bring home from various spa trips, and he’s always interested in what I’ve been up to if I’ve had a new treatment, especially if the ingredients of a facial are remotely unusual, or the massage a bit left-field.
So it’s no surprise to me that there are statistics out recently that point to a huge rise in the number of boys and men who’ve become converts to the benefits of a regular spa day. The latest figures show that around a third of all spa-goers are currently men, and according to Ragdale Hall, although some men like their me-time alone, some also seem to be coming along with their significant others and having a spa break to get away from it all. Ragdale has a great range of spa treatments for men that can be tagged on to a day spa package or overnight stay – and there’s a real treat for the proper spa-loving dude as well, the three night ‘Just for Him’ package that promises a full mind and body MOT for males.
At this rate, they will be taking over our spas! As long as they don’t leave wet towels everywhere…or try the trick below…
I really wish I could go on holiday right now after reading the CNN list of ‘wellness retreats’ which is really CNN-speak for ‘very posh exotic spas’. I’m going to have to try and talk someone into letting me review one of these spa breaks…apparently this is the definitive top ten wellness retreats in the world…what do you think? Continue reading →
You might think that UK spas are all about chilling out and getting pampered – well you know what, although they are certainly brilliant for that, sometimes you hear a story that just makes you realise there’s more to a spa than expensive facials and bubbling spa pools. Continue reading →
You know what, I’m an eighties/nineties girl and when I left school back in the day, we didn’t have proms, we just had rubbish school discos and that was our lot. I love the whole idea of getting all glammed up for a rite of passage like a prom, and I can remember reading about them in Sweet Valley High teen books and thinking that the whole idea was impossibly glamorous! People often ask me what a spa really is, and what’s the difference between them. Well, it’s really hard to explain as there are as many different varieties of spa as you could imagine. If you’re looking for a spa though, and you’re not really sure what to look for, here’s a really basic guide for you.
Day Spa: most people start off with a day spa to see if they like it! A day spa has all the facilities of a spa, but no rooms or facilities to stay overnight. Examples of day spas include the spas you find in health clubs like Esporta Health Clubs, or one off places like the Academy Day Spa in Harrogate.
It’s all over the news that Imogen Thomas has taken herself off to Champneys for a spa break to escape the attentions of the media – and who can blame her? She apparently tweeted the other day that she was having a body wrap, head massage and foot massage – I wonder whether she was talking about the fantastic aromatherapy wrap? It’s good enough to take your mind off of being hounded by the press, or errant footballers, and gives you a choice of three options – unwind and soothe, firm and tone or revive and refresh, which all come with a scalp or a foot massage to chill you out even more while you’re being enveloped in your aromatherapy oils. I reckon Imogen would have gone for unwind and soothe after the last few weeks! Continue reading →
