I have been going to SPA's for years now, and to say I was disappointed with this one was an understatement! The treatments were a total let down and although they were supposed to be half an hour, only lasted about 10 mins, the service was appalling and it felt as though all they were interested in was taking my money, there were too many petty rules, and the cost of treatments was extortionate, especially considering the poor quality.I was bought this as a present by my mother, and feel sad that she wasted her money, not only would I not pay to go there again, but would not go again even if it was free!I went with my friend, who totally shares my feelings, and would say to anyone considering this spa to forget it and go somewhere else!
I arrived with my daughter-in-law and it was in fact a special treat for her. We arrived to find that our facials were booked for 2pm and then a long gap until 5pm for my daughter-in-law's manicure. 1 of the children were ill so we asked if this could be changed but were told it was not possible. We went into the pool area looking forward to the Jacuzzi. We went to get in and were told very sharply by a woman taking a water aerobic exercise session (very noisy could not even hear each other speaking!), to get out of the Jacuzzi as it was not working extremely loudly so that everyone could hear as she had a microphone. We felt like two naughty school children. Lunch was not particularly brilliant. The facial was good. We again asked about the manicure and we said it was not possible for us to wait. No offer of refund or even saying sorry was given.
Out treatments were both after lunch and the lunch was delayed so we had to hurry it and were told we might not be able to have the full treatment although we did. a facial immediately after a large (good) meal was uncomfortable. in the morning we tried the gym........the Pilate's machine was in a corner and difficult to use because of lack of floor space ! (young man in gym very helpful) Swimming pool good except for missing small tile on steps down. We also went out side to relax in the garden......there were dirty plates from other peoples meals which were not cleared away all the time we were there. i had to hunt for dry cushions for the deck chairs and a lady in the laundry gave us dry towels to sit on. so all in all a mixed experience. i doubt if we would go there again.
A fabulous spa hotel, would definatly go again...
I was very impressed with Greenwoods. We had an overnight stay and the room we were allocated was superb, the spa and pool area immaculate and the service from the staff excellent. A little overpriced for a coffee perhaps and we ordered two sandwiches with different fillings for a snack but I think the same knife was used, therefore, my friend had mustard trimming to her sandwich which she didn't really want. Overall 9/10
Greenwoods Hotel, Spa and Retreat is a fabulous Grade II listed 17th century manor house in Stock, near Chelmsford in Essex, home to a fabulous spa that has nine separate treatment rooms and offers a smorgasbord of treatments. The building is set into acres of gorgeously landscaped gardens that you can choose to wander at your leisure, the rooms are all beautifully decorated and the main hotel just feels a little bit exclusive. The spa, which is downstairs, feels like a little haven, and everything about the hotel from the tasteful décor to the tasty food (and of course the spa treatments) just feels relaxing.
Not only does the impressive spa at Greenwoods offer the exclusive Sultane de Saba range of Ayurvedically-inspired and totally gorgeous treatments, there is a selection of more than 50 treatments in total on offer for you to take your pick from. Try a Moroccan inspired Hammam-style ritual or a Balinese Flower Ceremony - or if you prefer tried and tested you can have Elemis treatments as well. There's a pool to chill and swim in during your visit too, as well as a brand new Premier Suite with a TV and mini bar especially for couples to relax in on a couples spa day.
Fitness is fully catered for at Greenwoods - whether you choose to amble lazily around the grounds in the sunshine or prefer to get involved in a more strenuous workout in the gym. If you're staying overnight you can use all the facilities, and if you're on a spa day, enjoy the 20m indoor pool with its sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room as well as the gym, which has everything you need for a total workout.
There's plenty of choice at Greenwoods, whether you want a quick bite to eat or a full meal at the Rosewood bistro-style restaurant. The emphasis is on relaxed dining, with an elegantly decorated dining area and attentive staff, and of course a delicious menu. You'll find the food to be delicious whether you're having a three course dinner or an afternoon tea...and there's a fabulous selection of drinks available in the Cocktail Bar too.
