About

Need some time away from the stress and strain? The Aztec Hotel & Spa is the sanctuary you seek.

Just a couple of miles from Bristol city centre, even the journey here feels relaxing. Because it’s such a short hop from the M5, the hotel is perfectly placed for travellers from all directions - great for gatherings of far-flung friends. But once you’re inside the hotel’s swish, contemporary walls, all is calm and serene - and you’ll find some luxurious features that will make the everyday feel very far away.

Smart, stylish and bursting with dramatic design touches, you can tell the Aztec Hotel & Spa is special, but it has a clutch of awards to prove it. Its lofty restaurant space, the Curious Kitchen, is the proud winner of two coveted AA Rosettes, but that’s only for starters - just wait until you see the jaw-dropping spa.

Winner of the Best Boutique Spa 2022 at The Good Spa Guide Award, this newly refurbished oasis boasts a spacious relaxation suite, large swimming pool and treatments from vinotherapy brand, Caudalie, using natural ingredients from vines and grapes.

The local area is jam-packed with cultural highlights, including the iconic heritage on offer at the Brunel SS Great Britain museum and the stunning views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Bristol’s Zoo is celebrated throughout the world, while sporty types will love Wavegarden Cove -the inland surfing lake a ten-minute drive from the hotel. If that isn’t enough, make sure you set aside some time for retail therapy in the city centre.

Bristol is decidedly lovely, and the hotel is clearly proud of its West Country roots. You can see sweet nods to the city written in the hotel’s design, from the artwork on the walls to the cheeky ‘alright my luvver’ mugs you’ll find in your room, should you decide to check in. And doing so is highly recommended. There are more than 120 chic but comfy bedrooms and suites, so turning spa days into spa days is always a temptation.

The Spa & Wellness at Aztec Hotel & Spa

Step in and take a moment to decompress. Breathe in the scented air and let your shoulders drop. This award-winning haven is all about making you feel special.

A feast for the senses, you can warm yourself in the sauna, sink into the bubbles of the relaxing hot tub, breathe deeply in the steam room and finally take a dip in the swimming pool to cool off.

Transport yourself to a world of relaxation in one of four treatment rooms, each offering bursts of aromas and pampering treats that will leave you feeling relaxed and revived.

Here you can indulge in Caudalie treatments. This French skincare brand was created by Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas in Bordeaux in 1995 using natural ingredients from the vine and grapes of the family vineyard.

Bespoke nail stations offer the highest comfort whilst you beautify, perhaps with a glass of fizz or a naughty treat from the pantry. Each relaxation area has loungers, magazine QR codes and complimentary beverages for you to enjoy. They really have thought of everything here.

The Gym & Fitness at Aztec Hotel & Spa

Got fitness goals? Crush them at the Aztec Hotel & Spa. Its gym has all the machines you need for a proper workout, with state-of-the-art features and technology to help you get the most out of every session.

Crammed with the latest Technogym equipment, you’ll find cardio machines like treadmills, steppers, cross trainers, rowing machines and exercise bikes to help you strengthen your heart and lungs while burning off your brunch.

Once you’re warmed up, head over to the resistance area to build strength and muscle with chest press, chin up and bicep curl, along with cable machines and leg press. Finally, there’s a flexible space for conditioning that lets you swing those kettlebells and work out with medicine balls.

Alternatively, you could just head to the 13m swimming pool to swim laps, before some me-time in the sauna, steam room or spa pool.

Restaurants & Food at Aztec Hotel & Spa

You’ve pampered at the spa, worked out at the gym and now it’s time to follow your tastebuds to the hotel’s restaurant.

Called the Curious Kitchen, it really is something special thanks to enticing dishes and a calendar of events all cooked up by a team full of passion and enthusiasm. It’s so dynamic, no two visits here will feel the same - you can see why it has been awarded two coveted AA Rosettes.

With a seasonal menu that changes four times a year, everything’s made from scratch. Behind the scenes the team is hard at work infusing their own mayonnaise with smoked jalapeños, preserving their own lemons and making their own bread, along with smoking, curing and pickling to ensure each ingredient is always at its very best.

In fact, they’re so proud of their food and cooking skills that the hotel holds masterclasses every Saturday, where chefs showcase their expertise with guests.

Inside the restaurant is beautifully contemporary, with artworks giving a nod to its Bristol heritage. But on sunny days, the Curious Kitchen comes into its own with a covered terraced area, surrounded by greenery and ponds, complete with ducks.

Begin your day with the à la carte breakfast menu filled with waffles, American stacked pancakes and eggs benedict or choose something set, like the Northern Breakfast with its black pudding and sausage wheel. Also on the menu are breakfast cocktails like a mimosa or bloody mary - the perfect way to start the day!

For dinner, why not choose something from the chef’s table? Choosing this option as either your starter or main course lets you pick from a table groaning with salads, home-cured fish, seafood and delectable meats.

I cannot fault the staff at all, Laura at the spa desk was amazing and looked after my wife on her 50th, so nice and welcoming and gave us a lovely tour, also the dining room staff were amazing, food was lovely and just right on the portion sizing too and the little birthday desert the gave her made her day. As much as I hate to do this, the negatives: there is no signage that tells you where the spa is, we queued at reception to be told where the spa was. I don't think the information about the facilities does it justice as the gym is really well equipped or I would have brought gym gear too so on that I was disappointed. The other negative is that we paid a fair amount for treatments and spa to find we couldn't sit down in the pool area as it was filled with members holding seats for friends that weren't there. I do think we were short changed on that as it was over used my members and staff and spa treatment customers couldn't use it. Steam and sauna rooms were great though.

Excellent weekend spa experience

We bought the two night spa experience with two treatments, breakfast, dinner and one lunch and everything was excellent. The pool is large, gym is very well-equipped, dinner in the Black Sheep restaurant was very reasonably priced, breakfast was huge and so was the lunch. The spa is on a trading estate, so doesn't look that appealing on first view, but is very well-placed for the M4 and Bristol Parkway train station. All the staff we met were very pleasant. We thought that the whole weekend was very good value for money and hope to return.

All in all, a good experience. I particularly liked the relaxation room with the complimentary nibbles! The pool area was nice but a little busy and I didn't use it until children's swimming time was over. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Brunch was generous. Would definitely return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Aztec Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?

Yes it does, and it’s one that will tempt even the most serious of foodies. Afternoon tea at Aztec Hotel & Spa showcases the very best of the West Country, with Somerset cheese, Cornish clotted cream, salmon from the Severn, Gloucester pork and even mayo made with eggs from the Cotswolds.

Served daily from 12pm to 5pm, the menu offers quintessentially British treats with a modern twist - like salted caramel and chocolate tea cakes and buttermilk scones served. You’ll find sweet and savoury pastries among the hand-crafted patisserie, and it’s all made in-house by the hotel’s dedicated pastry chefs.

Does the Aztec Hotel & Spa have a swimming pool?

If you can’t relax unless you’re lying next to a tranquil, azure rectangle, you’re in luck. The Aztec Hotel & Spa has a gorgeous indoor pool that’s beautifully lit and flanked by comfy loungers. At 13m there’s plenty of space for lengths, floating like a starfish or just lounging around and finishing your book.

Does the Aztec Hotel & Spa have accommodation?

Yes it does, and all the rooms are really cosy and comfortable. Forget hotels that look luxurious until you find the shower doesn’t work. The Aztec Hotel & Spa have focused on getting the most important bits right.

From Signature Rooms to Premier Suites, all categories boast a comfy bed, pillow menus and a shower with real power. There’s also big TVs, colourful wallpaper, proper teas and coffees (with fresh milk from a vending machine in the corridor) and chunky, crumbly biscuits.

While all rooms are a delight, Signature Rooms with Terrace offer French doors leading to your own private lakeside terrace. Or push the boat out with a Premier Suite - you’ll love the White Company gift set, fresh fruit and complimentary mini bar!

What are the check-in and check-out times for overnight stays at the Aztec Hotel & Spa?

You can check in anytime after 3pm, but the hotel will happily store your luggage for you if you arrive any earlier. Check-out time is 11am.

Is the Aztec Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is. You’ll find ramps, level access, accessible toilets and parkings, along with facilities for visitors who use a wheelchair and/or mobility aid.

Why is the hotel called Aztec Hotel & Spa?

Interested in the hotel’s unusual-sounding name? It’s actually named after its location. You’ll find the hotel in the Aztec West area of Almondsbury in Bristol, a high-tech business park filled with post-modern buildings. The name of the business park is said to derive from the 'A to Z of Technology’.

Is the Aztec Hotel & Spa family friendly?

More than family-friendly, children are treated like little VIPs here! Book into a family suite and you’ll find a welcome pack, a few yummy nibbles, two single sofa beds suitable for children under 12, along with a big king-size bed for you. They even get their own mini robes!

Children are charged at an extra £30 per child, per night, including breakfast, cookies, milk from the super-cute vending machine, VILittleP robes and activity pack.

For families with older children, interconnecting rooms give you the space so you can all chill out in style.

Whilst not located right in the city centre, the Aztec Hotel Bristol is still close enough to make a great base for exploring all the child-friendly activities on offer in the city. Make sure you take in the Bristol Aquarium or Brunel's SS Great Britain - the splendid maritime museum. Closer to home, the hotel is only a 10-minute drive from Wavegarden Cove, the inland surfing lake in Bristol.

Back at the hotel, kids can splash in the newly refurbished swimming pool, anytime in the morning before 11am and then between 4pm to 7pm. The Curious Kitchen restaurant has a brilliant kids’ menu full of family favourites - and even their own afternoon tea.

Is the Aztec Hotel & Spa dog friendly?

Yes it is. Waggy tails get a very warm welcome at the Aztec Hotel & Spa, where three clean, cosy double rooms come complete with bowls, beds and dog biscuits to munch on. These dog-friendly rooms can't be booked online, so if you want your dog to come with you on your Bristol spa staycation, you’ll need to give the hotel a call.

A stay here puts you in a great location for wonderful walkies, with the woodland and riverside paths of Oldbury Court and Snuff Mills nearby. And, after a day of adventure, dogs are very welcome in the Aztec Hotel & Spa’s bar and lobby area. Or just get them to sit and stay on the shady outdoor terrace as you dine on the same menu as in the main restaurant.

Does the Aztec Hotel & Spa have a golf course?

There’s not a golf course at the Aztec Hotel & Spa, but Knowle Golf Club is just eight miles away. This AJH Taylor-designed beauty measures 6,000 yards and makes good use of its undulating parkland setting. Expect fast greens, immaculate fairways and plenty of tricky bunkers.
